NC for this.
For a long time I have always said to myself if a LWS event came near to me, the least I could do was go along and show solidarity. Seeing what has happened elsewhere has made me so angry, it would be time to stand up and be counted.

Now there is an event next week, and I'm really surprised how nervous, even scared I am about going along just to listen, and really just wanted to reach out for advice, support, whatever.

I'm worried about the vitriol of protesters, the attitude of the police. I have worked in pretty 'captured' sectors and am concerned about being identified on social media, or by acquaintances - I'm fairly sure there'll be old contacts, people I like and who I have had time for - protesting or certainly vocally supporting the shutting down of KJK on the day. I guess I personally run the risk of being publicly 'outed' and losing friends and contacts that will have a real impact on things I do that mean a great deal to me.

Yet I feel if I don't go I will always regret not standing up and showing KJK support on my doorstep. I'm even worried about DM-ing the local Women's Rights Network as I tweet with my full name. Perhaps if anyone is on this board they can PM here, or give some info about plans for the day?

Sorry I haven't seen any threads about this LWS event so apologies if there is one already.

I am going with my wife and we have the same feelings, both our jobs are stonewall sponsored so will be taking a risk if we are seen on social media. But we need to support the cause. We need to. See you there sister 💪

PoseasRadicalActuallyMisogynistic · 28/09/2023 23:47

I went to one in London, I was very safe, there were TRAs there making a noise, lots of police keeping them away from the women. I actually had a chat with a couple of young female TRAs on the way there. We had a civil conversation. They seemed to think that supporting trans rights are freeing people from gender roles, Yeah I don’t get it either .

VeronicaSawyer89 · 28/09/2023 23:51

I didn't even know about this until today, I always said I'd go if one came to Liverpool. Then I checked the date, I'm having DGD that weekend. Sad

Can you set up an anon Twitter account?

I can't imagine anyone would PM you details that aren't public for obvious reasons.

IwantToRetire · 29/09/2023 00:09

Hi OP

Great idea to maybe link up via a thread on FWR. Hopefully you will find others to meet up with.

And if you really are worried about being recognised get yourself a big hat and sunglasses, or wear a wig! Seriously if it lets you feel more relaxed and able to enjoy being there, why not?

And even if there are protestors I am sure police in Liverpool wont want to be the only UK police force that couldn't keep the TRAs away.

Can I be a bit cheeky and suggest you ask MNHQ to add the date of the event to your title? Just thought it would help publicise it as I dont think it has been posted about yet. And might give time for others to think about getting there.

If you like the idea of doing that (adding the date) you can to that by "reporting" your post and just explain that you hope they dont mind adding the date for your!

And it lets others (like me) know to tune in to the live stream.

Oh thank you Cranberries, that's what I needed. We need to. That's how I feel.

Yes fair enough that had crossed my mind.

Liverpool & Merseyside Women's Rights Network is on Twitter and is there for people to get in touch.

Thanks @IwantToRetire, some good ideas there!

Have asked MNHQ to put the date in the title of the thread.

Thanks for letting me kniow about that. I'm in Liverpool and wasn't aware.

That date, of course, is the opening day of the Labour party conference in the city. The city will be full of delegates and MPs and media - and 'The World Transformed' event also starts the sae day - so there'll be lots of blue hairs and Owen Jones's around too.

I'm assuming that KJK knew all of this and chose the date for that reason?

What is the location, do you know?

Won't this mean the police will be stretched thinner than usual and maybe not have as many resources to protect women as they might otherwise?

Possibly!

I'd hope that the event may take place near to the conference venue - for maximum attention - and also so that the policing of that event may be more 'conscious'.

RebelliousCow · 29/09/2023 10:01

I imagine the reason the location has not yet been announced is because of co-ordination with the police?

RebelliousCow · 29/09/2023 14:41

Joss Prior working Joss's self up into a right lather about the upcoming event.

Ah, yes. FemBoys against Fascism - I've seen some of their 'non-violent' posters around town. If they do behave badly there wil be a lot of media coverage to capture it due to the conference starting that day. I also take a camera everywhere with me. I'll make it my job to photograph everything.

Probably, but if she didn't wonderful conjunction. As she says "I always win".

Can you imagine how Labour will look it at their doors steps spoilt men are shouting their violence at a group of women speaking up for women's rights.

And better still national tv etc., will be there!

Time to think of good placards or even A4 signs to hang round the kneck that will let the lazy "reporters" from the national media have an easy way of summing up what the LWS is about.

ie not anti trans, but pro women and our sex based rights!

RebelliousCow · 29/09/2023 18:49

It will be interesting to see in which location the police suggest the event goes ahead. Hopefully not too far away from the conference hall.

An interview with these educated and erudite freedom fighters:

https://www.anarchistfederation.net/femboys-against-fascism-on-liverpool-anti-immigrant-riots/

Interesting among all that juvenile twaddle that "Thigh- Highs, they/them" sees working class areas as racist. And is aggrieved that maleness is demonised.

Redshoeblueshoe · 29/09/2023 20:50

I went to the Manchester one. I am not young, but I never felt scared. It was exhilarating. Have a fabulous time.

starfruittree · 01/10/2023 11:25

Another protest in (presumably) the same area at the same time. It could be a busy day.

Are you a member of the Women's Rights Network @starfruittree ? I'm sure there'll be women from this network at the LWS event next week.

It's a grass roots organisation, that has local meeting groups - it's quite loose knit. It offers fabulous solidarity & support. And it's just ordinary women, doing extraordinary things.

You can join via Twitter, or their website.
