NC for this.
For a long time I have always said to myself if a LWS event came near to me, the least I could do was go along and show solidarity. Seeing what has happened elsewhere has made me so angry, it would be time to stand up and be counted.

Now there is an event next week, and I'm really surprised how nervous, even scared I am about going along just to listen, and really just wanted to reach out for advice, support, whatever.

I'm worried about the vitriol of protesters, the attitude of the police. I have worked in pretty 'captured' sectors and am concerned about being identified on social media, or by acquaintances - I'm fairly sure there'll be old contacts, people I like and who I have had time for - protesting or certainly vocally supporting the shutting down of KJK on the day. I guess I personally run the risk of being publicly 'outed' and losing friends and contacts that will have a real impact on things I do that mean a great deal to me.

Yet I feel if I don't go I will always regret not standing up and showing KJK support on my doorstep. I'm even worried about DM-ing the local Women's Rights Network as I tweet with my full name. Perhaps if anyone is on this board they can PM here, or give some info about plans for the day?

Sorry I haven't seen any threads about this LWS event so apologies if there is one already.

This is on at the world transformed thing as well.

https://theworldtransformed.org/twt23/programme/towards-liberation-beyond-trans-rights/

Trans people are having to fight for basic rights and safety in an increasingly hostile climate, often with fatal consequences. “Trans rights are human rights” is a common refrain - but this framework can sometimes confuse our battles for survival with the broader political project of liberation. What are trans people facing in 2023? How are we resisting state and street violence? And how do we build towards not only trans rights, but trans liberation?

clever use of language there.

one of the speakers works for https://theworldtransformed.org/

*Trans Safety Network is a research collective exploring and analysing institutional and organised harm against trans people in the UK.
We formed in October 2020 and bring together the skills of data scientists, community activists, journalists, analysts and more.

Going to be interesting day

I know it wont happen, but really like the idea of LWS being held opposite the entrance to the Labour Party conference so that all those who have been schooled to say (even if they dont think it) twaw can actually hear and hopefull listen to women's voices unfiltered by the virtue signalling left.

VeronicaSawyer89 · 03/10/2023 20:35

Do we have a location yet? Just found out I'm not having DGD on Sunday so I can come. Yay! And dd2 wants to come with me.

mrswarthog · 03/10/2023 21:15

Hi all, it's just outside where the conference is being held. ACC is at the far right corner of the dock, the LWS event is at the entrance, about 5minutes away.
I'll be there, like most PP, I'm apprehensive, as I work in a captured place. I did attend the WPUK event in September 2018 and was utterly emboldened so am hoping for the same!

mrswarthog · 03/10/2023 21:17

Actually, it's on the left unless you're looking from the river 🫣 - it's still 5 minutes from #LWS

FemaleAndLearning · 03/10/2023 21:22

I'm going with my friend. I've been to lots of LWS events. Even the really badly policed ones I've been glad I've gone. When the boys throw their rattles out and have their tantrums and the transmaids are down on their knees it makes you realise you are doing the right thing.

The women are always welcoming, surprisingly it's quite easy to spot a Terf so you won't be alone. Come incognito if you need to, don't wear anything obvious until you are with the women and LWS crowd. Tell the woman next to you that you are anxious and you are a first timer and you will be well looked after.

It's 5 years since KJKs first billboard with the woman definition on it and it was outside the Labour conference in Liverpool (2018). This will be one hell of a return. I'm still deciding on words for a banner. I always make mine women focused shows the toddlers up who have banners all about us!

Of course! I hadn't quite made the connection.

I am sure all will go well. And think even the most self absorbed TRAs will know the msm and police will be around in big numbers and wont want to give the wrong impression.

Although of course what they think is the right impression is a whole other thing.

Really hoping the live stream goes okay.

And worth remembering if the crowd is big and the speakers not powerful enough you can listen via the livestream to what is being said.

After getting outraged on a daily basis on MN 😀, I'd like to go to this. But, I am a bloke, and I don't have an appropriate tee-shirt! But I'm not far from Liverpool, Lime St is a short train journey away.

FemaleAndLearning · 03/10/2023 23:08

Terfy blokes are welcome, though you do need to stand near the back out of the way of women! Terfy t-shirts are not mandatory, we're not a cult you know! Edited typos!

You can just come and hang around and listen. That's what I'll be doing too. Though my main intention is to photograph the event as much as possible.

RebelliousCow · 04/10/2023 10:29

I'm trying to imagine whereabout at the Albert Dock it will be. Maybe over by the carousel, outside the proposed new entrance to the International Slavery Museum?

The dock and its surrounds will be full of delegates, media and conference attendes, as well as the usual coach loads of Sunday day trippers and other tourists. Hopefully the rain keeps off!

RebelliousCow · 04/10/2023 10:32

Weather forecast suggests quite a pleasant day....19 degrees and sunny spells.

starfruittree · 04/10/2023 13:03

FarEast · 01/10/2023 12:43

Are you a member of the Women's Rights Network @starfruittree ? I'm sure there'll be women from this network at the LWS event next week.

It's a grass roots organisation, that has local meeting groups - it's quite loose knit. It offers fabulous solidarity & support. And it's just ordinary women, doing extraordinary things.

You can join via Twitter, or their website.

https://www.womensrights.network/

Thanks FarEast, I've seen them putting the message out on Twitter and will get in touch.

The LWD Sunday meeting appears to be invitation only?

IwantToRetire · 04/10/2023 20:18

I'm not part of the group but think I saw somewhere that because it is in the conference centre they have to have an agreed list of attendees.

Probably invite only means they asked via their mailing list who wanted to come - or already had a pass.

RebelliousCow · 07/10/2023 15:38

Just one of the groups intending to picket tomorrow's event.

What a load of hyperbolic nonsense Hmm Grin

Nigelladamascena · 07/10/2023 15:54

Why do adults need to be told to bring snacks and water? Reminds me of school field trips.

These marauding old women are clearly a dangerous bunch!!!

dapsnotplimsolls · 07/10/2023 16:22

I can't believe they've told people to be careful about the cobbles!

ArabellaScott · 07/10/2023 16:23

They need juice and biccies or they get very hangry.
