NC for this.
For a long time I have always said to myself if a LWS event came near to me, the least I could do was go along and show solidarity. Seeing what has happened elsewhere has made me so angry, it would be time to stand up and be counted.

Now there is an event next week, and I'm really surprised how nervous, even scared I am about going along just to listen, and really just wanted to reach out for advice, support, whatever.

I'm worried about the vitriol of protesters, the attitude of the police. I have worked in pretty 'captured' sectors and am concerned about being identified on social media, or by acquaintances - I'm fairly sure there'll be old contacts, people I like and who I have had time for - protesting or certainly vocally supporting the shutting down of KJK on the day. I guess I personally run the risk of being publicly 'outed' and losing friends and contacts that will have a real impact on things I do that mean a great deal to me.

Yet I feel if I don't go I will always regret not standing up and showing KJK support on my doorstep. I'm even worried about DM-ing the local Women's Rights Network as I tweet with my full name. Perhaps if anyone is on this board they can PM here, or give some info about plans for the day?

Sorry I haven't seen any threads about this LWS event so apologies if there is one already.

There must be at least 7 or 8 of us by now! Surely!

Yes, but some of us are only part time.

IcakethereforeIam · 08/10/2023 19:26

I can't do Tuesdays.

If you click the link I provided, it's there in all it's naughty glory. I only put the ** in to be polite.

I clicked the link. I got a 'not found' and none of the suggestions helped. I guess that it isn't that important.

OK. Trial and error. A coastal town in Scotland. Not a nice thing to call anybody.

Is that video by DJ Lippy online anywhere else? It was bloody brilliant!

duc748 · 08/10/2023 19:43

I took a few pics, I just had a look. I'm a lousy photographer, and they're mostly just of the tops of people's heads, the odd good banner, etc.

LarkLane · 08/10/2023 18:24

I was thinking about you today RebelliousCow and hoping you took lots of photos.

I'd be very interested in seeing pics.

I have quite a few - some of the 'standing for women' crowd - and some of the chanting mob. To be honest I spent a lot of time looking at that crowd - and some did seem actually quite bewildered. They must have been thinking "is that what fascists really look like"?

I'll post some images as long as people don't mind if they can be identified in the crowd. Obviously nobody knows who is who, or what people's names are just from the photo.

Admit it, you were taking selfies in your Warriors shirt with Kevin and Perry. 😉

LarkLane · 08/10/2023 20:04

For the wider audience, a rugby shirt, not a SJW shirt.

Of course they bloody did! I reckon attending one of these 'bash the fash' events, to be confronted by a bunch of women talking about abuse and education and making BBC complaints must be the quickest way to ascend Mt Peak Trans possible.

Ah, is that who it was? It was fantastic. Round of applause.

Saltcoats?

Probably not. A saltcoat sounds sort of tough and sailory. As in "Our Dave is a proper saltcoat. He spent 5 days at sea in a fishing boat with a broken arm and still helped with every haul."

RebelliousCow · 08/10/2023 20:16

Mis-post

LarkLane · 08/10/2023 20:17

I did wonder what that masked line of youngsters thought facing the hi viz women.
"She looks like my sister/aunt/cousin/mum/nan/carer/teacher" etc etc

I'm old enough to remember a very famous photograph where a Vietnam War protestor puts flowers into the barrels of soldiers' rifles.

I was thinking that next time we should all hand over a Tunnocks teacake.

Then tell them to tidy their room.

RebelliousCow · 08/10/2023 20:20

One woman came right up into my face to try to intimidate me. She was wearing a black mask. Her friends didn't seem quite as confident/aggressive.

How stunningly brave of her.

Must be Maybole, then.
