Employment Tribunal starts next Monday, not sure if it is available for remote viewing.

I have sent a request so we will see.

Anyone else stymied by the fact we have to keep cameras on??? I was planning on having it on whilst parenting and I don’t feel happy whipping a boob out to feed / having my child on camera. Is this the standard expectation??

I hope BC uses the judges request for pronouns as a reason for appeal if it goes that way.

It's the equivalent of asking what denomination of Christianity you are (if you're a Muslim) and refusing to countenance the existence of other religions (i.e. a protected characteristic). It's DISCRIMINATION.

For me, the Judge has already revealed their bias.
I don't trust them now.
Poor Jo. Her heart must have sunk.

ickky · 02/10/2023 11:27

Not happened on any of the others, in fact they asked for them to be off as it is distracting.

I've kept mine off too, as have most people. It's possible you wouldn't have a camera on your 'device' anyway!

Puddlelane123 · 02/10/2023 11:27

Good point!

Far from it.
It's strictly cameras and microphones off.
And not to use the chat function for anything other than connection issues.

LipbalmOrKnickers · 02/10/2023 11:28

12 bundles!!

ATowerOfGiraffes · 02/10/2023 11:28

12 bundles?!

MyLadyDisdainlsYetLiving · 02/10/2023 11:29

I can only count 30 people connected to the meeting. That seems remarkably low.

LipbalmOrKnickers · 02/10/2023 11:30

Oh no - different page numbers on different bundles! Haven't we been here before?

CriticalCondition · 02/10/2023 11:30

JP's solicitor has covid and so attending remotely.

May God have mercy on their souls. 😫

MyLadyDisdainlsYetLiving · 02/10/2023 11:30

Can anyone hear Ben and the other solicitors, or is it just me? their volume is very low.

dimorphism · 02/10/2023 11:31

Why do they go along with it? Why don't they say 'our pronouns are based on common usage i.e. observable scientific reality'

They are very quiet - Judge is clear though.

LipbalmOrKnickers · 02/10/2023 11:34

Just going through reasonable adjustments for both parties.

LipbalmOrKnickers · 02/10/2023 11:35

Going through timetabling and possible issues. For OU someone is on jury service and can only give evidence in wk 2.

CriticalCondition · 02/10/2023 11:35

The sound is really poor compared to other hearings. The judge is the only person you can hear clearly, including very noisy typing and paper shuffling. Counsel is quite faint. And it looks like we are only going to get this general view of the room including all the people sitting at the back, but not the bench. Not great for 'open justice'.

dimorphism · 02/10/2023 11:37

Need to start bringing linguists to these cases.

Common usage is that pronouns are sex based based on speakers observation.

Anything else is signing up to a TRA belief system. I.e. the judge has already shown bias towards one side, a conflict of interest and should be recused.

Lots of transsexuals are fine with common usage FFS.

Pronouns are not a choice in standard English. What else in this hearing isn't going to be standard English i.e. incomprehensible to most people.

LipbalmOrKnickers · 02/10/2023 11:37

15 days to hear case, currently judgement likely to be reserved. Will be a liability only hearing, not remedies.

MyLadyDisdainlsYetLiving · 02/10/2023 11:37

15 days to hear the case, they want to use it all for liability and not for remedies.

My email said the judge was George Foxwell, is that who is speaking?

Bloody useless. 🙄 It always feels like we get the bare minimum of 'open justice'.

You get what you get given, and you'll be grateful for it.
Having a half decent camera and mic set up isn't that avant garde, is it??

LipbalmOrKnickers · 02/10/2023 11:38

Reason for late start - technical difficulties. Is it too soon to start a Bingo card?

MyLadyDisdainlsYetLiving · 02/10/2023 11:39

The delay in started was because one of the Members (of the Tribunal panel?) didn't have a laptop to access the electronic bundles.

Discussion of scheduling.
