Employment Tribunal starts next Monday, not sure if it is available for remote viewing.

I have sent a request so we will see.

I see Sex Matters in their weekly round-up is referring to Lady Justice Young. Surely this isn't correct?

MyLadyDisdainlsYetLiving · 06/10/2023 15:17

No, it's Employment Judge Young, if this is the same person: https://www.judiciary.uk/appointments-and-retirements/appointment-of-a-salaried-employment-judge-of-the-employment-tribunals-england-and-wales-young/

ickky · 06/10/2023 15:21

It is Jennifer Young

324 named people? Sputter! Looks like constructive dismissal to me.

Was JP issued with a proximity beacon alert to help avoid this? Is a job workable if you need to consult the list of people with whom you're forbidden to interact before undertaking the slightest action?

Why can't they work past 4.30PM?

Possibly because people have commitments outside of work.
There was another GC case (I forget which but BC was there too) where they were asked to work beyond 4.30 or start early and the barrister for the defence said she was unable to due to childcare commitments. Also it's a very long day if you are giving evidence and witness evidence can start to noticeably deteriorate towards the end of the day.

Datun · 06/10/2023 15:26

Is it me or do they seem to be relying on saying that Jo is lying about everything.

LarkLane · 06/10/2023 15:26

You can't navigate a workplace avoiding 324 people.
Talk about being put in an impossible situation..

ickky · 06/10/2023 15:28

Yes @Datun and in no way upset because she answered a WhatsApp message.

i can’t find it again the witness statement (sorry no search function) but basically iirc it was her doctor wrote she was not to have any contact with the people who ask signed the open letter condemning the GCRN as she was still recovering from PTSD. Those people were across the whole of the OU, not just her department. So she came back in a research capacity only. Her position is that she was under utilised as there were still other tasks she could have done that did not bring her into contact with those people.

I wonder if that’s what the 18 OU witnesses is all about. 18 people prepared to say under oath that JP is a liar. They hope the sheer number of them will sway the judges.

MyLadyDisdainlsYetLiving · 06/10/2023 15:31

@ickky are you going to start a new thread as this one is rapidly filling up?

LarkLane · 06/10/2023 15:32

AH! Thanks for the clarification @MyLadyDisdainlsYetLiving

Well if anyone can expose all that, Ben can.

ickky · 06/10/2023 15:35

(Sings) If anyone can..... Ben Can

I do hope for Jo’s sake they get her evidence and BCs cross examination completed today. I think BC will be quick and to the point so Jo can just say yes but the right documents are referenced.

RethinkingLife · 06/10/2023 15:46

I'm more of the opinion that the OU allowed the creation of a hostile work environment.

eurochick · 06/10/2023 15:51

The short court hours are for a number of reasons. Court time is exhausting for the witnesses but also the advocates and the judges, who have to be 100% focussed on what is going on. I have been part of a hearing that ran to 8pm under exceptional circumstances and it was absolutely brutal for all concerned.

In addition to the above judges will do work outside the court room, such as dealing with paper applications and other admin. The lawyers will be preparing for the next day. That will mean reviewing transcripts or notes to see if anything needs to be changed in the approach for the next day, answering client questions and just digesting the day's evidence to see if, for example, you need to advise your client to change strategy or settle.

Like The Arts Council did with Denise Fahmy.

That petition still shocks me.

Clutching at straws WRT Reading application implying it was a shady deal.

When Jo was at Durham I was one of her students for a module. When I requested to miss a lecture because of my personal history she was extremely compassionate. She was an excellent and rigourous lecturer.

I hope she gets through this without a complete breakdown in her mental health.
