Mumsnet campaign on VAWG includes men in their definition of women

I'm not sure if/how I can link to it but under Mumsnet campaigns Women in data have published a survey about violence against women and girls.

It talks about "ALL women", asks for sex assigned at birth and says you can answer on the basis of your "gender identity".

How can any organisation purported to be for the benefit of women include men in their definition of women? All of the data will be inaccurate, unscientific and u representative.

Terrible! Mumsnet, what are you thinking? 🤷🏻‍♀️

DerekFaker · 14/09/2023 11:07

Wtaf!!!!!

SiobhanSharpe · 14/09/2023 11:09

Dreadful. If absolutely anyone can say they are a woman how will that help end violoence against actual women and girls? -- It will just sow confusion and corrupt the data, resulting in it becoming useless and discredited.

Norma27 · 14/09/2023 11:11

FFS Mumsnet. What a disgrace.

CorruptedCauldron · 14/09/2023 11:13

Oh, Mumsnet. Women and girls experience violence on the basis of their sex, not their gender identity. Why bother doing research on VAWG if you’re going to include both sexes?

CecilyStreet · 14/09/2023 11:13

Shameful, MNHQ 🙄

Theeyeballsinthesky · 14/09/2023 11:17

Align with gender? Sex assigned at fucking birth??

so men can complete this survey about violence against women - I don’t even have words anymore!

how can you possibly campaign against violence against women & girls when you can’t identify what a woman is?

arethereanyleftatall · 14/09/2023 11:18

For shame Mumsnet.

I get that it's scary for organisations to voice what everybody is thinking. Far easier for us to do it anonymously without fear of backlash. I get that.

But that's how MRA are getting away with this. Shaming and guilting women in to 'being kind'.

Please don't be cowards mumsnet. Stand up for what's right. Women's rights. Actual women. Not men larping as women.

NeverTrustAPoliceman · 14/09/2023 11:29

Hang your heads in shame Mumnet. You should be asking about actual women, not men who have been playing with the dressing up box.

SirChenjins · 14/09/2023 11:31

WTF Mumsnet?? Can you explain this (appalling) decision please?

algasport · 14/09/2023 11:36

Helloooo👋
Waits patiently for reply....

Shaffas · 14/09/2023 11:37

Yes. I'm sure 6 foot 5 'Destiny' has the same amount of male violence and sexual harassment perpetrated towards 'her' (🙄) as real women do. I'm sure 'her' (again... Eyeroll) experiences are really relevant.

Create a 2nd survey about violence against TW if you really feel the need but don't skew our data!!

IsadoraQuagmire · 14/09/2023 11:38

This is completely unjustifiable.

SirChenjins · 14/09/2023 11:42

Interestingly, Women in Data are clearer about sex differences on their website - "Women are hugely under-represented across STEM fields, and the Data industry is no exception – as things stand, male Analysts and Data Scientists outnumber their female colleagues 4 to 1". Was this survey developed to further dissuade actual female women from entering STEM fields?

Kirstyshine · 14/09/2023 11:43

🙄

Plasmodesmata · 14/09/2023 11:44

Because of course it does.

Pixiedust1234 · 14/09/2023 11:54

Thanks for posting. I normally ignore their surveys as I'm not usually their target market. But I'm pretty sure I am a woman and always have been.

Illegallyblonder · 14/09/2023 11:55

Such utter bullshit when even a survey about VAWG included men. FFS. There aren't enough eye rolls in the world.

SpikyHatePotato · 14/09/2023 12:08

@MNHQ Any comment?

HarpieDuJour · 14/09/2023 12:13

This is so disappointing. Not necessarily surprising, but disappointing nonetheless.

Helleofabore · 14/09/2023 12:23

Looking forward to the reply.

nothingcomestonothing · 14/09/2023 12:27

Well they can fuck off then, no more MN surveys for me

Edit for typo

Pudmyboy · 14/09/2023 12:28

There is an option to report the post so I have, don't know if anyone cares to join in and phrase things better than I have, I put this:
Inaccurate data collection as there are options for men to complete this, so will skew data and makes the survey meaningless and any consequently and conclusion misleading

MargotBamborough · 14/09/2023 12:28

Come on Mumsnet, you know the majority of your users don't believe in gender identity or things being assigned at birth.
