He comes from just down the road from where I grew up. Strong women were the backbone of the working class part of east London he's from. Definitely forgotten where he’s from and showing disrespect to women.

I’m with the PP who saw him live several times and counts his New England as one of my all-time favourite songs (albeit Kirsty MacColl’s version), and now feel sorry that I ever liked him. He’s part of my cultural life, and now this embarrassing ignorance from him, FFS!

Apologies for the derail, but what happened in Manchester?

I remember hearing him on Women's Hour many years ago (I used to be a massive fan) being interviewed with his mum and being embarrassed for him. I couldn't understand why he agreed to it. He sounded like a petulant teenager.

I don't know if you can still listen to it but whenever I read one of these threads about him I think I should see if I can find it.

Many years ago, at a stage door after a gig, I and a group of about 6 others helped hide Billy Bragg from his stalker (a lone, female uberfan). He was shitting himself. The hypocrite.

He freely admits it is all about being on what he perceives as 'the right side'. I wouldn't credit him with misogyny; he's not even able to rationalise his stance. He has no arguments. It is not thought through in the slightest. He has no curiosity. Just embarrassing some of the things he's coming out with.
