Fuck me he is utterly vile.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 12/09/2023 21:56

I have always hated his shitty music, droning singing and painfully obvious sixth form political lyrics.

That too.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 12/09/2023 21:58

Bragg bemoans the lack of a "blokesnet" - a Dadsnet does exist, but it has nothing like the same scope as its female counterpart -

Yes you actually have to get up off your arse and make it work, Billy, not just berate women for doing it better 🙄

Did he think these things just magically appear? Oh, does he expect women to scurry about and provide him with what he wants?!

I think that you are right. BfuckingB thinks that there is an army of service bipeds that exist to put into place anything that BfuckingB wants.

Awful man.

Ditto Dorian Lynskey.
It's been an absolute masterclass in left winged women hating on twitter today. They're like cornered rats.
All stems from Sunday and Helen and Maya being harassed in the street in Manchester, they know it's indefensible, they know it's beneath contempt but they can't stop themselves.
Bragg has now come out beneath the sewer somewhere near Australia.
I still find it upsetting how much men hate women.
Germaine was right.

I bought Lynskey's book, paid to see him in a theatre speak. It makes me feel queasy.

I wasn’t quite such a fan but I did used to listen to and enjoy Remainiacs. The fact that Dorian has come out with such an attack on HJ has actually taken me aback. I knew he had a trans child and was in with the fox killer but still. Also disappointed to see Ian Dunt getting in there too. I thought he was a bit more balanced.

Mollyollydolly · 12/09/2023 22:32

Ahh I thought Dorian must have some skin in the game. That's why he reacted so violently to the Joyce clip because it's the unbearable truth. It must really hurt to be confronted with someone saying it. His reaction proving the point she was making.

LarkLane · 12/09/2023 22:33

Gender critical women raise their voices
Our concerns and questions, our safe space choices
Billy labels us as transphobic foes
Misrepresents views, untruths he sows

Billy Bragg tries to shut us down
Ignores concerns with sarcastic frown
He's for Inclusion, if it's woman face
His views on feminists so misplaced

We seek to protect Women's Rights and spaces
To question "gender" in various cases
Yet Bragg's stupidity clouds his sight
To put it simply, he's talking shite

what an absolute plonker 😀

To the Daily Telegraph, no less. Our non-friend Billy has form for telling women that they shouldn't speak to a newspaper if it's not sufficiently left-wing as a paper.

He doesn't impose such limitations upon himself when he wants to sell tickets to his own gigs or an event he's involved in.

Shodan · 12/09/2023 22:50

Can a has-been get 'cancelled', does anyone know? Or do you have to be current/interesting/less of a monumental twat?

BillyBraggisnotmylover · 12/09/2023 23:02

I think I’ve mentioned it here before but I saw him at a festival over the summer and he went on this big speech about trans rights and the response was incredibly muted. It was quite interesting to see really.

Also, a massive prick (though annoyingly quite entertaining as a performer, despite myself).

Oh that’s interesting about the muted response. Great username btw! He was great live, I saw him a few times with my ex, who was a big fan. I’d have to boo and heckle him these days, sadly.

TragicMuse · 12/09/2023 23:45

God I don't have sufficient invective for my loathing of Bragg. He's 50 shades of dickhead. Absolutely beyond the pale.

Hateful awful man.

'I don't want to change the world
I'm not looking for a new England
I'm just looking for a bludgeoned girl'

Greengrassohla · 13/09/2023 00:33

he recently revealed that he thinks puberty blockers are the same as beta blockers

😀

BillyBraggisnotmylover · 13/09/2023 01:20

Methinks John Boyne needs to work his poetic magic a second time.

AutumnCrow · 13/09/2023 02:04

Billy Bragg is very middle class now, isn't he?

LunaNorth · 13/09/2023 04:19

Have you seen his fucking house? He’s got an absolutely massive pile in Dorset.

Working class hero, my arse.

Teddleshon · 13/09/2023 04:28

I’m so sick of this shit. I bet many of those female surgeons who were so vilely assaulted in their place of work tried to put a brave face on it and just get through the situation as best they could.

It’s what women have been doing in the face of male aggression for thousands of years.

mirax · 13/09/2023 05:42

Bragg was an absolute cunt during the time Corbyn's antisemite chums were ruling Labour. Got my measure of the man then. Everything he has since done is just further proof of his tribal vindictiveness.

SpanielsMatter · 13/09/2023 05:50

Bragg is a noisier version of ‘left’ wing men who have totally thrown women under a bus. I used to enjoy the work of so many but now won’t have a bar of any of them. Mark Thomas ( who also stopped his ex wife publishing a book - but purports to support free speech), Ben Elton, Mark Steel, to name a handful. It’s almost impossible to enjoy the work of any left wing comedian/ commentator because you know underneath the work, ideals they place no value on women’s rights, spaces, feelings and autonomy which directly contradicts true left wing values.

TommyNever · 13/09/2023 06:18

Never could stand the ugly little posturer. He's a lifelong "professional virtue signaller" and waste of space.

Unfortunately amongst the people he tries to impress, misogyny is indeed regarded as a virtue.

RebelliousCow · 13/09/2023 07:21

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 12/09/2023 19:53

I must admit I have wondered if we're looking at early onset dementia

he just doesn't seem to be able to think for himself

like, at all

Lots of people, perhaps even most, are not really instinctively political thinkers - but they are very social creatures and so they tend to align with their frienndship group - or the views of those in their immediate circle. Belonging is more important. I suspect Bragg is one of these people. I've just found an interview he did in 2015 in which he says:

"Although the household I grew up in was apolitical, the music I listened to was full of opinions. Simon and Garfunkel, Dylan and the other singer-songwriters were always asking questions, but the politics of the 1960s ran deeply through soul music too. It was from these records that I began to pick up my politics"
