Blimey. That 2014 interview with BB is not what I know about women, more a list of some women I know. And how they are my support humans or wouldn't go out with me. I can almost hear him muttering 'Bitches'.

You can always tell a sexist because they only love women who are actively supporting or nurturing them. Russell Brand in his autobio praised his female boss at the BBC for "nurturing and indulging me, as the best women always do".

popebishop · 18/09/2023 11:22

"Cool girls let me do what I want! Not like those awful mummy women"

Never a truer word was said @Dramatico

NeighbourhoodWatchPotholeDivision · 23/09/2023 00:12

Now he's attacking a woman for wearing a dress.

I'm not even kidding. He seems to think female punk musicians have to wear their stage outfits all the time, or surrender their punk licences.

Transmaiden today = Handmaiden back in the day.

maltravers · 23/09/2023 00:30

Surely he’s not telling women what to wear! Like some old misogynist..?!

RealityFan · 23/09/2023 00:37

Got no idea what Bragg really believes. Its unimportant, really. He could believe in mum and apple pie.

What matters is his signalling to his class. The class that used to believe in the class war, and now believes in the identity war.

And he's signalling true believer status.

That's why I feel this movement is less strict religion in the way Christianity presented itself. And more as a caste system.

But unlike existing religious caste systems, this one is a pure technocratic one, one based on neo beliefs like TWAW. Because the belief is so at odds with any real world thinking and falls apart the moment critical analysis is applied, it demands total adherence and the projection of rigorous membership.

Bragg is perhaps the most visible manifestation of this new highly anti human and anti science creed. And his ongoing public declarations of piety are his demonstrations of higher caste positioning.

And appealing to others to follow him.

Not bad for a second rate socialist anti Thatcher folk/dirge purveyor.

viques · 23/09/2023 01:13

So many of those transpeople and their supporters in the video are masked up, worried about catching Covid do you think?

Cancelledcurio · 23/09/2023 01:24

What a nasty piece of work he is ! He just keeps getting worse and worse!

LoobiJee · 23/09/2023 06:11

Interesting point.

Abhannmor · 23/09/2023 06:20

The failed punk rocker . The ' anti Thatcher socialist ' who joined the British Army in May 1981.

Then reappeared as a folk singer. Quite the Zelig isn't he.

ZuttZeVootEeeVo · 23/09/2023 10:09

It takes more balls than i thought he had to critise how a woman dresses, given how he looks.

Hes going to feel a right charlie when he stops shouting a women on the internet and look in the mirror.

ArabeIIaScott · 23/09/2023 10:51

'What?? Louise Distras hates trans people so much that she’s willing to dress in a style acceptable to Daily Mail readers in order to have a go at them. What does this have to do with feminism Louise? Or punk rock?'

I suppose given that genderism is all about signalling 'gender' through clothing choices it shouldn't come as a surprise that he is policing women's dress.

But you've got to wonder whether he sometimes thinks to himself in the wee small hours: 'Gosh, I'm telling a woman off for wearing the wrong sort of frock, what has become of me'.

ArabeIIaScott · 23/09/2023 10:53

she’s willing to dress in a style acceptable to Daily Mail readers

Need to have that printed off and a slip put into every copy of the new Billy Bragg CD/LP.

I look forward to Billy Bragg's Big Book of How Nice Ladies Ought to Look.

Abhannmor · 23/09/2023 10:58

Or as Skint Video put it :

I was a docker , I was a miner
I was fucking busy in between the wars.

Quite.

Like many, if not most, activists and shouters, he follows whatever the cause du jour happens to be. Or causes du jour, frequently.

The evidence for and thinking behind the Cause doesn't matter. All that's important is that it is a Cause.

ArabeIIaScott · 23/09/2023 11:10

In fairness, Cher, he does seem pretty doggedly committed to women-hatred, regardless of current fashions.

I think that's just his base default setting and he chooses or adapts his Causes accordingly.

Heliotroper · 23/09/2023 11:29

" I wish I had your voice and youthful good looks" is what you said whilst brushing your mangled claw over me at Leftfield. I always wondered how Jim Jones got all those people to drink the Kool Aid, and now I totally get it. Bring it on you sanctimonious old caaant"

Sanctimonious is generous.

RebelliousCow · 23/09/2023 11:34

Some proper punk responses though.....

PorcelinaV · 23/09/2023 12:12

That is such a nasty, demonising comment. Just using the silliest thing to help vilify someone.

It's stupid as fuck. Like Daily Mail readers are going to care if she was wearing something more "alternative".

What does it have to do with punk rock? Who cares? What does it have to do with feminism? Bragg can't be completely unaware of the women's rights case here, so also a stupid question.
