So the ‘formal re-education’ begins

I don’t know if anyone has been following this with Jordan Peterson but he has been ordered to undergo a self funded Re-education program in Canada, having lost a recent court case.

I have a feeling he isn’t well liked on here but I actually really like him. I’ve listened to many hours of his lectures and I don’t believe he is a misogynist - I think that’s the accusation that makes him a MN hate figure.

Anyhow I thought I’d include a link to the story if anyone is interested

Canadian Court Orders Jordan Peterson to Take Re-education Program

In January of this year, best-selling author Jordan Peterson was told by Canada’s College of Psychologists of Ontario to undergo re-education therapy for his very public statements, not on professional psychology and science, but politics and culture.

There was a thread a couple of months ago, giving credit to the Daily Mail for their coverage of gender ideology batshit that no other publication without a paywall was touching. Obviously, there were many disapproving posts ....because <clutches pearls> DM. I asked what approved alternatives they suggested. I was told there were loads. I asked for a name. I'm still waiting.

I think flagging up the possible biases of some of the more niche publications is fair enough. If you're getting information it can be handy to know the lens you might be reading it through. I don't have a problem with that and am often grateful for the background.

However, insisting that you dismiss it entirely because of disapproval of the source is another thing entirely. Too often it seems it's not the source it's the story that they want ignoring.

Because the Guardian, the BBC and so on, don't just spin the stories but completely ignore them we have to get our crumbs of news from whatever publication will drop them.

There was a joke going round that transgender turned the Daily Mail on to honest reporting. The DM loves to shock people and all the DM did was report the unvarnished truth because the unvarnished truth was so shocking.

I already feel sorry for the person chosen to re-educate JP.

I would love to volunteer Michelle Forcier (aka Blue Haired Chicken Lady) for the job though sadly she's American not Canadian.

For anyone who missed her making an utter fool of herself in an interview with Matt Walsh:

Please let it all be filmed or audio recorded.

I'm sure JP feels the same way.

Edited

Look at the split of sexual development.
And how her hands begin to really talk

Puberty gets a low supression hand and a stop hand

Girls get grow breast buds
no periods no other female changes No sexual maturity indications.

The boob hands

Boys get a bigger penis, a busy penis and the start of physical development

And the hand continue

The conductor of an orchestra

And doctor then parent
And poor old father christmas is assigned a they.

After hearing all the histrionics and hyperbole about him I had to check him out and I was amazed to find that I quite like him. Reminiscent of the Streisand Effect.

I cannot wait for JP to hand the 're-educators'arses back to them.

Yay! Robertson Davies!

Pixiedust1234 · 04/09/2023 20:08

Thanks for the chicken lady @AmaryllisNightAndDay She really gives the vibes, with her voice and body/hands and facial expressions, of someone who has enjoyed the wacky baccy once too often. Frightening that she's a paediatrician.

Yay! Robertson Davies!

I'm very excited to see him mentioned twice on this thread, he's about my favorite author!

Glad you enjoyed it! But what's even more frightening is that Forcier trained Jason Rafferty, the bloke who wrote the policy on treating trans kids for the American Association of Pediatrics.

The journos don't need to make it up. The world of trans medicine really is that wacky.

Jordan Peterson is amazing, if you have listened to his podcasts or talks you have something to base your opinion on. If you have just read hit-job articles and dislike him, you are in the same boat as the people who have read articles and think JK Rowling is a bigot.

DivingForLove · 04/09/2023 22:12

@BlessedKali of the third option is we’ve listened to his podcasts and don’t like him? I have no time for JP but I am a huge fan of JKR. Respecting one doesn’t mean u have to like both.

Inamuddle36 · 04/09/2023 22:46

And here is the court order: https://www.ontariocourts.ca/scj/peterson-v-college-of-psychologists-of-ontario/

seems the lawsuit is based on the biew of members of the College of Psychologists that Peterson has not seen patients in six years and so is not a practicing psychologist and should not refer to himself as such in his media work.

dcbc1234 · 04/09/2023 22:49

He is one of the good guys involved in fighting back against this nonsense. As with JKR, I have bought many of his books just as a thanks but I will read them eventually. There are many books I currently buy to show support, so it takes a long time to get through them all. Sharon Davies is also on my 'to be read' list.

PotteringPondering · 04/09/2023 23:28

I reckon overall he's a good thing: brilliant on gender, inspirational for rootless young men, great at identifying stimulating conversation-partners, helpfully counter-cultural finding wisdom in biblical themes, a wide range of cultural reference and insight.

Two hesitations:

  1. Like many anti-woke types in North America, he seems to buy into a whole right-wing package that includes being anti masks, anti lockdowns, dismissing environmental concern as a hoax etc. On the environment in particular, I think this is reckless and wrong.
  2. On Twitter/X he's become needlessly ranty ('morons! idiots! butchers!' etc). C'mon Jordan, sounding rabid and unhinged doesn't help your case.

Otherwise, thumbs-up.

CliantheLang · 05/09/2023 01:21

Not a JP fan but at least he knows how to do research. I guess that makes him right-wing, now.

AmaryllisNightAndDay · 04/09/2023 11:11

He will love Big Brother

For a moment there I thought you were proposing a subsequent TV career Grin

Oh surely he'll succumb to that at some point. And I'll 101% be there for that. Total box office.

Maybe I'm a Celeb? Actually I'd like to see him on Gogglebox

BlessedKali · 05/09/2023 13:26

I think it fits under the first option 'if you've properly listened to him you have something to base your opinion on'.

the issue is people not having ever actually listened to him and having atrong opinions

Jason Rafferty, whose policy was NOT questioned and just rolled.out across the board for all the kids in America. That Jason Rafferty?

Probably a good time to post this interview with Dr Julia Mason

EP 128 - As Weird as a Chicken Crying: AAP Statement on Pediatric Gender Transition w/ Julia Mason

AmaryllisNightAndDay · 05/09/2023 17:19

@AlisonDonut Yup, that Jason Rafferty, the AAP one. In fact that podcast (the first 6 minutes or so) is where I got his connection with Chicken Lady. Before that I just thought Michelle Forcier was just a random loon who'd agreed to talk to Matt Walsh. It was the podcast that clarified Forcier is an influential loon.
