Just watched Billy Bragg live. I was cheering along with the political stuff, climate change etc and then he starts with TWAW and I had to leave. Fucksake

Just went to his Twitter/X page trying to find something to suggest he's confused rather than a frank misogynist, but even his pinned tweet has me cringing... "In the early 80s, I realised if I wanted to hear music that said something about the state of the world, I’d have to make it myself. To mark my 40th anniversary, I’ve compiled a number of commemorative releases spanning my career since then". I know it's just promotion, but fuck me, it's hilariously self-important 😂. If only SOMEONE else in the world was capable of politically intelligent music in the 80s, so Billy didn't have to carry this burden on his shoulders alone...

Hahaha, I think I will. The neighbour was drilling at 8am this morning and I was so tempted to go out and give him a bollocking about doing work at that time on a Sunday morning. Thank fuck I decided to keep calm.

I just listened now. "I was 21 years when I wrote this song. I'm 22 now but I won't be for long." Astonishing. I always thought it was such smart writing, too.

How old is Bragg now? Does he also update his age when he sings performs 'New England'. Although, how he can get 'when I wrote this song' out of his gob without blushing is beyond me.

Talking about Paul Simon - do NOT think about Cecilia. I was on a baby name thread and it’s been stuck in my head for the last few days. Also one of the verses is a bit cheeky - I was singing it out loud in the car with the kids and forgot it had that bit - it made us all laugh! Billy Bragg songs sound like a sixth form politics class complete with sincerityflatcap and wistful guitar. Cecilia would have kicked them out too.
