That word is legally inappropriate for women's ankles now.

Angry ankles are Crankle Wankles.

Oh that's interesting. She's always been v quirky so I can see why they think she's one of them.

Here's her recent woman's hour stint

x.com/bbcwomanshour/status/1681944532298899456?s=46&t=A2fpFNgDRyXF2d6ye97wEA

She's a new album coming out in the autumn; what you can listen to online is varied and fabulous.

She's released a collab with Jessie Ware which certainly 6 music are all over.

She may not get the pride bookings (did Manchester pride and only stuck and rainbow flag emoji in) but I think she's probably going to be going back to more mainstream pop and dance going forward.

I saw a video interview on her fb where when her children ask if she's famous, she said "no, I'm just well known."

I miss goldfrapp; going to revisit some of those too!

I've decided to interpret this as Roisin and Jessie mixing and melding the suffragette colours with original rainbow colours Smile

A variant on The Four Yorkshiremen sketch.

Lost me there, realityfan.

Lost me there, realityfan.

Your comments on going to school barefeet, in the sketch, the Yorkshiremen argue about living in a puddle being worse than living in a hole in the ground.

Just a light-hearted comment, nothing more.

Helleofabore · 27/08/2023 19:56

No. I didn’t go to school barefoot. Just worked on the farm. Where I grew up, it was not that unusual to wear thongs on the farm. They were cheap.

Go Roisin! She's so cool. I suspect Alison Goldfrapp might be one of us too.

Allison is very into trans rights and signed the GLAAD letter 😞

Glad to help. I think there is a big cohort of women who don't see much sunlight. Work in an office all day, exercise in a gym or at home. Rely on home deliveries etc. Could apply to men too.

Particularly an issue with Asian women who are very housebound, often fully covered up for cultural and religious reason.

Vit D is the catalyst to absorb Calcium, you cannot rely on supplements alone, indeed Calcium is badly absorbed this way.

My point is that these patterns are getting worse, nutrition may be going backwards, Instagram Fit seems faddish, and being thin with a six pack is idolised.

Throw in really bad footwear, it's a toxic brew.

And now I'm seeing the first fallout from the trans mania to medicalise.

There's a link between Vit D deficiency and development of type 1 diabetes too. It's complicated because there are sunny places like Sardinia where it's prevalent. But definitely linked somehow.

She’s very brave as her music is very big on the Ibiza/house circuit and she’s performed at Glitterbox which is a very LGBTIQA+ friendly club event, though very inclusive to us middle aged straights who were the original ravers.

I'm glad you agree she's very brave. To expect her to go much beyond this is impractical and overly optimistic.

Look what happens when you do go further...JKR, Glinner, KJK...they are literal targets and fair game. Their lives will never be the same. I'm not sure Roisin is ready to have her life rearranged like a burglar turning her house into a tip.

My view is that this statement needs to lead to the next visible personality saying something.

I see. Yet it was no tall tale, and no joke, it was my reality.

@RealityFan

Can I ask if Fit Flops are just as much of a scourge as regular flip flops?

I'm now wondering if I've just fallen for some hard marketing (although they do seem to keep my planter fasciitis at bay).

They seem better. Anything with some sort of arch support and absorbative sole is an advance over bare basic flip flops. They do seem a bit pricey.

AtrociousCircumstance · 27/08/2023 22:15

I hear you @Helleofabore That was your real experience.

Helleofabore · 28/08/2023 05:06

What is amazing about Mumsnet is that it brings people together from across the world. It is why I laugh whenever anyone tries to tell us that on FWR we are all ‘middle class’ and have no idea about poverty.

I'm a huge Fit Flop fan....I'm in them from May to October, and buy two or three pairs every year. They are supremely comfortable ( I tend to buy slides these days - but used to buy toe bars) and come in a wide range of colours and styles. I can walk for miles in them - and do.

RebelliousCow · 28/08/2023 15:27

I spent a whole year, once, walking barefoot around London. I'd come back from two weeks without shoes at a festival, and couldn't bear to put my feet back into shoes. I learned how to walk with a light and conscious foot - and never once incurred injury or even cut.

Now it is Fit flops all the way - I don't even know I've got them on( if they fit well) and they give great support to the arches. I even take pictures of my in different situations, at home and when on holiday. Am I a bit weird? 😁

Here are my feet ( in Fit Flops) at the Central Montemartini in Rome 😉

MavisMcMinty · 28/08/2023 15:33

Great photo!

RealityFan · 28/08/2023 15:59

Can I ask what is it with the fluffy slippers? Why is granny fashion circa 1953 all the rage?
And gym guys in sandals and white socks?
Why am I so out of touch? Lol.

That's good
Despite the spin on the name, they have very little in common with the demonic spawn that is flip flops.

Absolutely......You tend to have to buy a whole size smaller than your normal shoe size, though, for a proper, sunug fit. Too big is no good - as you struggle to hold them on your feet.

RebelliousCow · 28/08/2023 16:56

snug

Love the idea of Roisin Murphy reading this thread, knowing she’s got support out there, and also declaring to end any previous relationship she had with flip flops. I’m fact, if I ever see her in fit flops, I’ll take it as a sure sign that she’s seen the thread.

Have you heard that she might be?
