Confirmed this morning.

www.theargus.co.uk/news/23699795.eddie-izzard-run-labour-mp-candidate-brighton/

This is my local constituency so I have Tweeted Eddie asking if women in Brighton & Hove can rely on Eddie's support in our bid to secure the option of single sex rape crisis therapy.

Let's see what the response is.

Great news.

Wonder if he'll try Bridgend next?🤔

Ooh, I don't think the local CLP has chosen a candidate yet.

Vegemiteandhoneyontoast · 17/12/2023 17:02

Good. Even Brighton don't want him and that tells you a lot.

cariadlet · 17/12/2023 17:02

@TheGreatGherkin The regional group is pretty new and seems to mainly discuss elections and environmental issues. They are split between those who are worried that Labour have picked a strong candidate and those who are confident that the Caroline fans in Brighton Pavilion will keep voting Green.

The ecofeminist, GC Greens are also split. Nobody likes Sian Berry (the Green Candidate) because she's a hard line TRA who is manipulative, has bullied people and would like to get rid of the "transphobes" in the Party.

Some had hoped for Eddy Izzard because it would have been funny to see Sian Berry campaigning against him. Some are relieved because we would have had either Sian or Eddy as MP and either is an awful prospect. Some are pleased that Labour has selected a strong candidate who is local and has environmental credentials. They hope he wins and the TRAs in the Green Party realise that their lunatic, authoritarian policies aren't vote winners.

Catsanfan · 17/12/2023 17:22

If he can't get Brighton, I'd be surprised if he'll get very far anywhere. My husband is from the Calder Valley so I hope he doesn't run there.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 17/12/2023 17:47

I would have thought the winning candidate must have a better chance of unseating the Greens there.

Hm.

Calder Valley is not included in the list of MPs and candidates on the Labour Party website. However the Halifax Courier said on 22 November this year:

"The Calderdale councillor for Hebden Bridge [Josh Fenton-Glynn]– who was Labour’s candidate for the Calder Valley in the 2015, 2017 and 2019 general elections – will once again try to win the seat."

It's currently held by the Tories, of course

I need another constituency in the sweep.

Eddie lived in Skewen for a few years when a kid. Maybe might try for Swansea West if not Bridgend. Though I think after two fails may give up.

Noshowlomo · 17/12/2023 18:08

Honestly what’s this shit all over his insta. Does he go by Suzy and Eddie or just Suzy now?

Quite.

ArabeIIaScott · 17/12/2023 15:52

Ooh, I believe Tom Gray was a bit 'gc'? Can anyone confirm?

Yes, I've heard from people active in the Labour party in Brighton that Gray is GC.

ResisterRex · 17/12/2023 21:47

Is Gray, GC GC, or shitty sex fudge GC?

ArabeIIaScott · 17/12/2023 21:51

Yes, I've heard from people active in the Labour party in Brighton that Gray is GC.

Thanks. I very much hope its not the shitty sex fudge variety.

powershowerforanhour · 17/12/2023 22:19

"Shall we have a sweep for the next constituency on his shopping list?"

I'll pick "running as an Indie in Fermanagh & South Tyrone " I think Michelle Gildernew could sleep easy but I really want to see Eddie/Suzy canvassing at Clogher mart.

Fenlandia · 17/12/2023 23:22

Why is this story currently 7th on the Guardian homepage? Are they going to keep a slot free for the next 658 constituencies he doesn't get nominated to be a candidate for?

ValerieDoonican · 17/12/2023 23:28

The Guardian and it's "she this "she that"...do none of them realise how ridiculous it sounds under a picture of a bloke called Eddie? Not an original observation I know, but they sound so much like desperate try-hard dorks wanting to be included with the cool kids 😶😶

GoatsareGOAT · 18/12/2023 01:17

Would Eddie know to wear the fox hat though?

Friedfriedplantain · 18/12/2023 03:25

He wouldn't win in Calder Valley. Hebden Bridge is only a small part of the constituency.

cariadlet · 18/12/2023 04:38

Hebden Bridge is full of lesbians anyway. Hopefully that includes pkenty of the old fashioned sort ie same sex attracted women who are fed up of men in dresses muscling into their spaces.

Fenlandia · 18/12/2023 07:47

This is a tweet from lawyer Peter Daly about Eddie's performance at hustings:

"When asked how he’d fix the housing crisis in Brighton, Izzard answered by saying he’d use his international profile to draw in investment and jobs. Which would increase demand on housing and drive up rents. Hence lots of confused looks from those present."

This is...not how MPs address complex, deep-seated local issues.

cariadlet · 18/12/2023 07:55

No wonder he can't get selected anywhere. I've just read that thread.

Even if local activists thought that voters could get over the man in a dress pretending to be a woman nonsense, his narcissism and ineptitude became more and more obvious every time he opened his mouth (or was let loose on a keyboard).

Chersfrozenface · 18/12/2023 07:58

He used the "levering my international renown to attract investment" shtick in Sheffield Central as well.
