Confirmed this morning.

www.theargus.co.uk/news/23699795.eddie-izzard-run-labour-mp-candidate-brighton/

This is my local constituency so I have Tweeted Eddie asking if women in Brighton & Hove can rely on Eddie's support in our bid to secure the option of single sex rape crisis therapy.

Let's see what the response is.

A fabulous article.

To be fair, candidate often have to try for more than one seat before selected. Its just because hes well known that we hear the 'this town has always been my favourite' about sheff and brighton. Other candidates can get away with it.

I dont think he just wanted to be an MP, he wanted to be the first trans MP the first labour trans MP. It was always just about his identity, so to him and his tra supporters, rejecting his candidacy is rejecting his trans identity and therefore transphobic.

BadSkiingMum · 19/12/2023 17:57

The accusations that he wasn’t selected due to transphobia are just bizarre.

In any ballot there can be any reason or none, ranging from ‘I disagree with his manifesto policies’ to ‘I don’t like him.’

failing to elect Eddie as PM of the Conservative Democrats is pure transphobia and probably illegal discrimination under the Equalities Recognition Act.

Another brilliant article in the Critic from Jean Hatchet.

Includes a quote from me about Izzard refusing to engage with women in Brighton about the lack of single sex support groups.

thecritic.co.uk/give-up-already-eddie/

Brilliant article, plus there is a link about halfway down (on the word ‘wrote’) which leads to an even stronger article describing his actions in Sheffield.

Worth reading.

In my own mind I keep coming back to it:

If men are to take advantage, nay take everything, through sheer overbearing, overblown, over-confidence then perhaps women (including me) need some of those brass balls?

I've just heard they're calling a by-election in Peter Bone's constituency. Fgs, don't anyone tell Izzard.

You can breathe (relatively) easy

Labour has already chosen a candidate called Genevieve Kitchen.

Mind you, I've no idea what she's like - TWAW, GC, typical Labour fudge / Don't Talk About It, who knows.

She follows Helen Lewis and one or two GC Labour types on Twitter, looks like.

Although may also follow a whole raft of TWAWers, who knows?

I'm not a fan of Izzard. However as others have noted prospective parliamentary candidates often have to shop around in a number of places before being selected and even when they do get one often stand in 'unwinnable' seats a few times before gettibg a 'safe' seat and then elected. So the article sounds quite naive and uninformed about how these things work.

cariadlet · 23/12/2023 11:35

If anyone is in Sussex and feels that they haven't had enough Eddie since he was unaccountably not selected as the candidate for Brighton Pavilion, you can pop over to the de la Warr Pavilion in Bexhill and catch him live.

Live? So not performing via Zoom? Interesting.

NotBadConsidering · 23/12/2023 12:46

So he puts Eddie not Suzy on promotional posters does he? How predictable…

I am busy that night, too bad

Lysistra65 · 23/12/2023 14:02

If Izzard can't get selected in Brighton he can't do it anywhere. I reckon Brighton preferred the candidate who was local, understood the area & its people & would represent them. Rather than a self deluded exhibitionist misogynist.

I have a subsequent engagement.

TERFisTHEnewTREND · 23/12/2023 15:52

I imagine he could parachute into a non-safe seat, but he wouldn't be interested in that, would he?

thirdfiddle · 23/12/2023 16:32

Lol JanesLittleGirl 😂
