IamSarah · 04/08/2023 09:15

Confirmed this morning.

www.theargus.co.uk/news/23699795.eddie-izzard-run-labour-mp-candidate-brighton/

This is my local constituency so I have Tweeted Eddie asking if women in Brighton & Hove can rely on Eddie's support in our bid to secure the option of single sex rape crisis therapy.

Let's see what the response is.

So Eddie namechecks significant women - his mum, Glenda Jackson, Caroline Lucas - as inspiration. But is campaigning as Eddie, not Suzy. Eddie knows which side his bread is buttered.

Eddie’s bread is buttered on all sides. Even the crusts.

Eddie’s bread is buttered on all sides. Even the crusts.

I think Eddie likes to have his cake and eat it too.

Voters in Brighton Pavilion deciding between Caroline Lucas’s Greens replacement and Eddie Izzard:

ValerieDoonican · 04/08/2023 11:31

I notice he doesn't namecheck Sian Berry though. Wonder what she thinks 🤔

AutumnCrow · 04/08/2023 11:35

The idea of Izzard being interviewed by Andrew Neil is a rather cheering one.

ValerieDoonican · 04/08/2023 11:36

...and does he think Caroline Lucas will support him because he's somehow 'woker' than Sian being a real life grifter most vulnerable minority, unlike poor old Sian who's just an 'ally'.

Not sure she will see it like that though.

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 04/08/2023 11:37

there's something of the boris johnson about this constant hunt for power and feeling of entitlement

borntobequiet · 04/08/2023 11:51

Izzard is one of the few people who can make Johnson look like the more attractive prospect, in comparison.

I notice it's Eddie, not Suzy.

Is politics another area where it's better to boymode?

Yes. Eddie knows boy mode is better for all the big Patriarchal tasks like gaining influence in politics and securing acting jobs. Girl mode for securing access to toilets to (as Eddie says) scare 13 year old girls and enjoy them running out of a previously safe space. Tosser.

ArabeIIaScott · 04/08/2023 12:12

FFS. Give it up, Eddie. Nobody's buying your nonsense.

Datun · 04/08/2023 12:19

He really is fairly incoherent when asked about trans issues. Given that it's such a hot potato, I can see him, entirely unsurprisingly, looking like a right twat.

GolgafrinchamB · 04/08/2023 12:21

Did you see the bit where he compared himself to Obama? The sheer arrogance.

ValerieDoonican · 04/08/2023 12:29

Even among the few Eddie lovers in the replies to his tweet (which loads of people are misunderstanding as saying he's already selected) , there are those saying 'why are you wanting to take a Green seat, and not a Tory one'?

Could it be that people like Eddie are only interested in what is nice for Eddie, while other people's needs and preferences don't actaully exist? Just a thought....

Probs fair to conclude if they do select him then Kier STILL doesn't know what a woman is...

Deeds not words.

CloudyMcCloud · 04/08/2023 12:35

So going by Eddie but press release and reports still using She

topnoddy · 04/08/2023 12:36

Should be Monster Raving really .

Can anyone in their right mind think he will be selected as a official Labour candidate ?

fromorbit · 04/08/2023 12:36

Results in Sheffield:
Abtisam Mohamed, a local councillor, was selected by members of the local constituency party after winning 433 votes. Izzard came second with 175 votes. Rizwana Lana, backed by leftwing figures in the party including the MPs Nadia Whittome and Lloyd Russell-Moyle, got 173 votes.

I think Eddie will struggle. It comes down to local CLP members and Eddie hasen't even done the amount of groundwork as in Sheffield. Eddie was not that great at winning support at hustings.

With a bunch of local councilors as competition it isn't going to be an easy one. Should be interesting though.

LittleMoReturns · 04/08/2023 12:39

‘Girl mode’ abandoned when it doesn’t help get you into power, Eddie?

He can do one.

Datun · 04/08/2023 12:42

People also forget that the comic Eddie, is entirely different to the transactivist Eddie.

The comic has time to write a script, practice it, hone it, until it trips off the tongue.

Transactivist Eddie has to think on his feet to defend the indefensible. (And would be instantly cast out if he made it even in the slightest bit amusing.)

People who think Eddie is going to be an articulate, funny, innovative and entertaining politician, are going to be in for a nasty shock.

I’d vote BoJo all day long instead of this misogynist grifter.

Carpetbagging constituencies smacks of desperation.

But it's Brighton so God knows what will happen.

This. Unfortunately.

Datun · 04/08/2023 12:51

Whereas before, I was outraged that he was going to run in Sheffield. Now, I'm less concerned. And I think that's just a testament to the attitude shift in general.

There will be far more people willing to hold Eddie to account for his views.

Bring it on.

Yes, I suppose it's all sunlight. I'm just a bit bored of the sunlight shining on these tedious narcissists.

Tanith · 04/08/2023 13:33

He'll have to start replying to his emails, then. I've contacted him loads of times to find out his opinions on policy matters.
Never heard a word back, and I don't know anyone else who has.
He's utterly useless as a politician.
