Confirmed this morning.

www.theargus.co.uk/news/23699795.eddie-izzard-run-labour-mp-candidate-brighton/

This is my local constituency so I have Tweeted Eddie asking if women in Brighton & Hove can rely on Eddie's support in our bid to secure the option of single sex rape crisis therapy.

Let's see what the response is.

Oh dear. Let us know if he bothers to reply

maltravers · 04/08/2023 09:21

Where else? How confusing for the Greens who will be desperate both to vote Green and vote Trans.

NotBadConsidering · 04/08/2023 09:21

So failed in Sheffield, where the tenuous link was where he went to university. So what’s the link here then 🤨. Full of potential voters who are gullible enough to fall for the whole charade? It’s desperate stuff.

Menopausehaver · 04/08/2023 09:21

I hope KJK runs as well

maltravers · 04/08/2023 09:22

KJK is running against Starmer in London I think..?

AutumnCrow · 04/08/2023 09:24

Izzard hasn't been selected.

He's 'running' to be the chosen candidate there. He'll be up against some competition from local Labour names.

HorribleNecktie · 04/08/2023 09:26

Doesn't his constant shopping around for a constituency that is mental enough to actually nominate him as a candidate smack of a man who is desperate for power rather than someone who cares about local issues?

Pavilion is the central area of Brighton, and covers both the university and the richer parts of the city- so luxury belief territory. So who knows, this time he just might get the nomination. But tbh I think Labour would have a very good chance of winning it without his name recognition. And he is a fucking lightweight, I have no idea what he stands for. Other than the ability for
men like him to publicly indulge his fetishes.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 04/08/2023 09:29

I wonder why Eddie doesn’t try to be the Labour candidate for the constituency that covers bexhill where he was born & grew up?? Couldn’t possibly be because Eddie wouldn’t have a cats chance in hell
of winning the seat could it?

PronounssheRa · 04/08/2023 09:30

Carpetbagging constituencies smacks of desperation.

But it's Brighton so God knows what will happen.

GrimDamnFanjo · 04/08/2023 09:32

He's being very disingenuous here. He's not been selected to run yet.
No doubt Guido will be following his selection campaign as per usual.

AtrociousCircumstance · 04/08/2023 09:37

Ugh celebrity misogynist trawling around for a chance at power. Fuck off.

PatientZorro · 04/08/2023 09:41

Has he got any connection to Brighton or is he just going round the houses until he manages to get selected anywhere?

OvaHere · 04/08/2023 09:47

I think he lives somewhere in Sussex but not Brighton.

He’s shopping around.

teawamutu · 04/08/2023 09:49

I notice it's Eddie, not Suzy.

Is politics another area where it's better to boymode?

PatientZorro · 04/08/2023 09:50

Anywhere at all will do then. I’m sure he’ll do a splendid job representing all those local issues that he has taken such interest in. (Although if he succeeds anywhere it’ll be Brighton).

HermioneWeasley · 04/08/2023 09:51

Of course he fucking is.

is he still using women’s toilets now Labour have confirmed their supposed support for the Equality Act and women only spaces?

HorribleNecktie · 04/08/2023 09:53

Brighton has serious drug addiction and homelessness problems. What is he going to do, specifically, about that?

PronounssheRa · 04/08/2023 09:56

He lived in the county for a while while he was a child. But Izzard moved around a lot when young so there are plenty more constituencies left to carpetbag if this one fails.

PatientZorro · 04/08/2023 09:59

I went in a day trip to York when I was a child. Maybe I should stand as their MP

IamSarah · 04/08/2023 09:59

Well Brighton is a difficult and hostile city for women at the moment yet an exceptionally easy place for males to identify as women so it's an obvious choice for Eddie.

If enough women question Eddie about single sex services then Eddie will need to respond.

So Eddie namechecks significant women - his mum, Glenda Jackson, Caroline Lucas - as inspiration. But is campaigning as Eddie, not Suzy. Eddie knows which side his bread is buttered.

Mochudubh · 04/08/2023 10:33

There's an awful lot of deleted comments under that article, I think I can take a fair guess what most of them were saying.

I particularly liked:

No no no no no no! I'm a Labour voter and always have been. The party however is not a circus Eddie you egotistical maniac! your getting in the way of real local politicians who know the city, have peoples interests at heart and work the party's values. Will you really want to get involved in a residents dispute in Moulscoombe? not likely.

Gets dressed in the dark

Beowulfa · 04/08/2023 10:39

If he wants to play politics with the big boys, then he'll be delighted to be interviewed by Andrew Neil surely?

thirdfiddle · 04/08/2023 10:41

I don't really think he'll get selected. But wouldn't it be fun if he did. An Izzard Vs Green Party trans-off would be hilarious. Is it too late for KJK to transfer her candidacy there so she can ask them both difficult questions?
With apologies to any Brightoners I'm sure it's not so funny when one of them is supposed to end up your MP.
