Confirmed this morning.

www.theargus.co.uk/news/23699795.eddie-izzard-run-labour-mp-candidate-brighton/

This is my local constituency so I have Tweeted Eddie asking if women in Brighton & Hove can rely on Eddie's support in our bid to secure the option of single sex rape crisis therapy.

Let's see what the response is.

What with one thing and another, this is shaping up to be a merry Christmas 🎅

Hebden Bridge is in the Calder Valley constituency AFAIK, hence my bagsy

Heh fair enough, all yours!

Gettingbysomehow · 17/12/2023 15:17

Thank God I don't live there anymore.

LizzieSiddal · 17/12/2023 15:17

What excellent news! So delighted.

Noshowlomo · 17/12/2023 15:17

Tide is turning.

You know where you are with a right wing misogynist. And wherever you are they probably want you in the kitchen dressed up like a trad wife. At least you can still have private life away from them and form a resistance while they're busy running the world.

Left wing misogynists want you at work, in the kitchen, and also in the kitchen at work. Moreover, they've identified as your spokesperson and now run the resistance as well as running the world.

This is one of my favourite things I’ve read in years…. Absolutely spot-on! Thank you! 👏🏻

How many do we think he's going to try?

Good.

He might well identify as Canadian though and stand somewhere there.

Oddly enough you can't just identify as a citizen of a particular country, not even Canada.

There are rules and tests and no end of bureaucracy.

How very xenophobic.

MustardChair · 17/12/2023 15:49

Point was (obviously) it's as ridiculous as identifying as being XX when you are XY.

And that Canada is well down the wormhole of gender identity.

MustardChair · 17/12/2023 15:51

But I am sure you have reported and equally as sure that my post will be deleted for pointing out biological reality.

And how fucking insulting Suzy Izzard has been towards women- the old fashioned types.

ArabeIIaScott · 17/12/2023 15:52

Ooh, I believe Tom Gray was a bit 'gc'? Can anyone confirm?

PronounssheRa · 17/12/2023 15:52

Twice ran for the Labour NEC and failed to get elected.

Twice ran for selection to be the Labour candidate and failed to get the votes.

I wonder what is next?

Oh I know.

Sorry- did I not get ironical agreement with the PP. Apologies if so.

I'm am just very cross about things right now.

FWIW- Fatface are selling cute (and varied) Dinosaur felt Christmas baubles. I've bought a load for my GC friends.

ElevenSeven · 17/12/2023 16:06

Great news!! Also pleased to see he’s mostly being ridiculed on X.

Maybe the tide is turning after all.

ResisterRex · 17/12/2023 16:09

Wait. Is Brighton transphobic now?

GolgafrinchamB · 17/12/2023 16:24

It's probably bad to engage in some schadenfreude, right?

Wait. Is Brighton transphobic now?

The Argus describes Tom Gray, the chosen candidate, as a "music industry activist".

He tweeted the usual platitudes during the McGregor hooha. I don't know what else he's said on the subject - or perhaps he keeps schtum, in line with the Things The Labour Party Doesn't Want To Talk About policy and procedure.

cariadlet · 17/12/2023 16:31

I'm in the Green Party and live close enough to Brighton to get emails asking me to go door knocking for Sian Berry.

I've had to check carefully which WhatsApp group I'm posting in this afternoon because the reactions to the selection of Tom Gray have been quite different in different groups.

dapsnotplimsolls · 17/12/2023 16:36

Oh dear, how sad, never mind.

TheGreatGherkin · 17/12/2023 16:46

@cariadlet What have the WhatsApp groups been saying?

Biscofffan · 17/12/2023 16:50

Wonder if he'll try Bridgend next?🤔
