It was an excellent interview. Beth Rigby pushed him quite hard on some points, and he was clearly floundering.

Rightsraptor · 20/07/2023 21:41

It sounded as though he was about to make some kind of offer to talk to the LGBA at the start, but Beth Rigby seemed to cut across him and the moment was lost. Or did I imagine that?

I thought he came across as a desperate weasly toad.

MrsBennetsPoorNerves · 20/07/2023 21:44

It came across to me that he actually knows exactly what a woman is and how preposterous the Stonewall position is, but he is going to stick to it anyway!

CebelloRojo · 20/07/2023 21:48

Well I enjoyed that immensely. Thank you Beth Rigby for holding his balls to the fire.

rogdmum · 20/07/2023 21:50

I suspect Iain Anderson was using his Sky interview tonight to “reset” Stonewall and present it in a good light.

If so, it went horribly wrong for him.

I thought he was making it clear he would NOT meet with LBGA as they don’t share the same vision as him- ie the “strategy” he kept jabbering on about.

Kissedbyfire1 · 20/07/2023 21:58

He talked incomprehensible gobbledygook so we switched it off.

pombear · 20/07/2023 22:01

Beth Rigby was fantastic. Ian's gradual descent into sweating from all parts of his face I suspect represented his surprise at this not being a 'celebratory' interview but a factual and serious interview.
I'd recommend everyone, gender critical or TRAs, to watch this interview.
For TRAs you may be a bit concerned that he comes across a little terfy in elements of the interview, albeit couched in generic language!

334bu · 20/07/2023 22:01

Very clever interviewer.

AlecTrevelyan006 · 20/07/2023 22:02

Beth Rigby was clear and concise. Iain Anderson was not...

rogdmum · 20/07/2023 22:03

I too thought if not quite terfy at times, definitely not the clear cut ally- I suspect the TRAs will not be overly happy with his performance, though he did try his best.

pombear · 20/07/2023 22:06

Beth at one point asked him about women's spaces, and she then suggested that there are competing rights....he agreed. There it is. He agreed that there are competing rights between women's rights and trans rights. Away with the 'rights aren't a pie'...there are competing (and conflicting) needs and rights.

Thanks Ian!

MrsBennetsPoorNerves · 20/07/2023 22:09

Yes, I noticed that he acknowledged the point about competing rights.

Sadly, I suspect that Beth Rigby will get a lot of abuse off the back of this interview. She was simply doing her job by asking the difficult questions.

The real issue for Stonewall and their supporters is that they don't have credible answers to those questions.

popebishop · 20/07/2023 22:10

The absolute state of those "answers". Like any dishonest politician he's clearly there to quote his set sentences and not engage.
At all.

He either doesn't have the basic intelligence to grasp the very clear issues of lesbians (and gay men) that he's presented with, or he's dishonestly pretending he doesn't.

popebishop · 20/07/2023 22:20

I can barely watch it. Can't believe he used the cowardly "we all know what a woman is" that's been reeled off hundreds of times (again, by politicians, like Jo Swinson) as if it's a clever answer.

No, Iain, I have literally no idea what you think a woman is. A person of either sex with a set of feelings that you won't even attempt to define?

sashagabadon · 20/07/2023 22:20

his glasses seemed to steam up at one point!
he did concede some points but reverted to everyone should feel safe etc
I thought Beth could have had an answer re. Sport. Open categories are a thing now in quite a few sports for men / trans women and trans men too on testosterone and they are the answer. Beth doesn’t seem aware of this

AlecTrevelyan006 · 20/07/2023 22:21

LOL!

52sDon’t know what to say. Stonewall are willing to talk with the LGB Alliance ⁦@iainwanderson⁩ ? A trans hate group. This sounds like a retreat. The optics are terrible. There is no compromise on trans rights. We’re not here to barter

popebishop · 20/07/2023 22:21

Also it's the EQUALITY act ffs. Get the right word.

Goldshelfie · 20/07/2023 22:25

That was brilliant, Beth really asked some great questions. He was so sweaty 😂

Boiledbeetle · 20/07/2023 22:32

What a disingenuous little worm. Single sex spaces he called safe spaces, he fudged every question, he couldn't stop looking at that Lisa Thomas podium photo whilst talking incoherently.

The sweat on his top lip said it all!

I may have said "oh fuck off" quite a few times.

Rightsraptor · 20/07/2023 22:35

Oh I had my right fist in a ball and was punching the air in the general direction of his face, @Boiledbeetle.

popebishop · 20/07/2023 22:37

What a bunch of non answers. After years of this and all he can talk about is how the way it's discussed isn't very helpful.
No shit when you can't answer a single question without contradicting yourself. We're all supposed to sit and accept that, are we? For years on end, the same old weasel phrases?

Do better. Demand better.

titchy · 20/07/2023 22:37

Beth Rigby is always excellent imo.

Boiledbeetle · 20/07/2023 22:37

@Rightsraptor the bloody state of him. He couldn't give a straight answer if his life depended on it.

Just seen this on Twitter

popebishop · 20/07/2023 22:38

I've said it a thousand times and I'll say it again.
This is all they have.

This floundering waffle is the sum of their convictions. Pretending they're not really saying the thing they're saying (because we can see how misogynist and homophobic it is).

Helleofabore · 20/07/2023 22:40

He knows. He absolutely knows that stonewall have lost their way. I suspect after that interview that Nancy Kelley might have been asked to go. But then again, there is no where for Stonewall to go at this time. It has backed itself into a corner and been caught lying and twisting and coercing.
