Great news for cycling.
It's worth noting that tragically any child with a body that's been artificially prevented from going through puberty will never be an elite athlete. They'll be a long term medical patient.

I do sympathise to a degree, Em is a young person who's, though seemingly not unintelligent, possibly lived a bit of a sheltered life and certainly been poorly advised, not least by her idiot mother. I'm sure that the pair of them will in time come to accept that the right decision has been made.

Emily's mummy is very pro Just Stop Oil. I wouldn't be surprised if she wrote a lot of that mad rant. She is very bound up in Emily's career. Funny how all these TRAs have mothers who are way too enmeshed in their sons' lives.

Sandy is now trying to badger UCI sponsors from withdrawing their sponsorship.

I know you read here Sandy so just to make it clear: no one is stopping Emily cycling. Emily just can't compete against women.

Unfortunately I think it's highly, highly unlikely that any body which has been subject to puberty blockers and cross sex hormones is going to be healthy enough to compete in any category.

Not to mention that in order to compete at the highest level there needs to be a lot of focus over many years and sacrifices in terms of time spent on other things and any child 'transitioning' has their focus and time spent elsewhere.

And "female transgender athletes" are women claiming to be men, surely. 🙄No provision for them (if taking T) - except in the Open category where they won't stand a chance of winning. So unfair.

Yes, when you consider the extent to which sports have - to this point - bent over backwards for men who think they're women, it's quite remarkable that there is absolutely zero effort to be 'inclusive' of women who think they're men.

Is that right, Sandy reads posts on here? My advice to her would be very simple... having your child's back, unconditionally, is not the same as always telling them that they're in the right. There are many times when a good parent has to, not always gently, for their own good try to steer their offspring onto a slightly different course. Just the simple fact that Em is the thick end of a foot taller than the genetically very similar Sandy tells its own story - men and women aren't the same physically, sporting sex categories make sense and are worth defending with no exceptions.

Given that Bridges’ last Instagram diatribe included reference to Tory immigration policy (IIRC) and genocide, expecting any sort of basis in reality for this word salad would be…optimistic?

and by the way, Em is a very lucky person in so many ways, according to newspapers went to an expensive school, then a very good university, there are many great careers open to Em that aren't open to most people - in terms of top level cycling as a career, that ship sailed three years ago when Em was cut from the elite men's squad, not today or when British Cycling announced its policy.

The irony of blaming it on the money involved in sporting when trans* is really all about making money for med/tech.

*not including those genuine people who struggle with their own body

I really just want to type…. But Emily…. you can still compete, you can compete with the men as you always have.

The hyperbole in this has reached alarming proportions. The suicide narrative is so very irresponsible.

All because women in cycling said ‘no!’ And finally the UCI listened. I am quite sure the flurry of what was it? something like 50 places in events in the world this season were taken by male riders in female events. And look at the new records!!!!

The UCI finally realised it had fucked up and while I am glad, I am angry that those women lost out this year. That included prize money.

Hmmm, I sort of agree although given most companies do social media searches these days I'm struggling to think of many employers that would hire someone who's known for unhinged rants demonstrating a dubious grasp of reality and a persecution complex.

So will this prevent Austin Killips from running off with any more women's prize money? Or is he competing under a different set of regulations? Also will it stop men competing in the women's Olympic events?

Well, that probably part of the problem. If you go through life in a gilded, padded bubble with every bump in the road ironed out and every door opened for you, it’s going to come as an awful shock when one day you find yourself up against a hard stop of “NO”.
