Sexist leftist antifa men

I’m coming across quite a few leftie men online who are so sure transwomen ARE women and that terfs are hateful, right wing, Nazi bigots who are all white, middle class and middle aged.
You know the type: like LOJ and Bragg, antifa etc

What is it all about? Is it that they are so sexist and so insecure in their masculinity that they just can’t cope with the thought of effeminate men?

These men are a real puzzle to me and I have to admit their righteousness is getting to me.

Subconsciously they're standing up for what they feel is best for them.

An economically equal, kind and peaceful society. But also, male dominance.

Yep, I used to think we were shoulder to shoulder trying to make society better...I don't anymore.

The best explanation I've ever heard was that right-wing men regard women as private property; left-wing men regard us as public property.

The really sad thing is that, we TERFs aside, no one is calling them out on this (and the very act of calling them out seems to equal TERF). Were there ever any decent leftie men? (Hoping they are all happily married to Mumsnetters and doing 50% of the household chores)

I think it's way more superficial than that. It's simply an identity attachment to left or "progressive" politics and the world is split into goodies and baddies and the right is bad. No need for any critical thinking.

Probably this. Because they're men they can't be bothered to look at the issues at stake. It doesn't affect them. What does affect them is how they look in front of other people (men)

Do they all have mummy issues? An academic needs to research what drives these misogynistic men.

For most of them it seems to be about belonging to the leftie club. If that means sticking the boot into non-men then that is a small price to pay.

Out of interest, are there any prominent gender critical left leaning men? There's the few women in Labour Party hanging on. A couple of men have left the Green party over it.

Left-wing men are no less misogynist than right-wing men. In fact arguably they are worse, as the self-righteous glow of feeling they are 'on the right side of history ' means they can act like shits with no dent to their self-esteem. Basically 'I'm a virtuous person so whatever I do is also virtuous'.

Just ask them if any of those "trans women" are in their dating pool!

They are highly sexist, highly self absorbed, completely unaware of their privilege and hugely arrogant. Plus they absolutely truly believe that a) they know everything and b) pretty much all women know nothing. They are basically awful people who should never have any platform anywhere and it's a sad indictment on society that not everyone spots how much hate is contained in the vitriol that spews from their anti-equality mouths.

The common denominator with right wing and left wing men of this type is that they fucking love the sound of their own voice and enjoy telling women They Are Wrong. The lefties of this ilk have been around forever, but seem to have had a particular Renaissance in recent years. Coinciding with the rise of the men’s rights and trans rights movements. Funny that.

My CLP was full of these tears during the Corbyn years. They seem to have slinked off under Starmer. Probably balaclava’d up on some protest against women.

I guess Graham linehan is left wing. And there's that Alf up a tree guy. Maybe Mr Menno (not sure what his politics are). TBF there are probably a good few left wing men without a public platform who don't like this anymore than the many left leaning women without a public platform. (At least I hope so...)

I think lots of men just don’t think it through, and since it doesn’t directly affect them, it just doesn’t jump out at them in the same way. I remember my very kind, very thoughtful dh explaining to me that of course transwomen should be in women’s spaces. What got him was the realisation that men with not so lovely intentions might take advantage of the situation - then sport - then the kids and finally (eventually!) women’s rights.

‘Be kind’ has a long reach, and pretty much everyone wants to do the nice bit, saying no bit.

@Doopydoor exactly my experience being involved with the trade union movement for many years. Of all political groups left wing males are overall the most misogynistic wankers of the lot of them.

One was having a meltdown about how we are such Nazis and his mum let him play with purple toys and wear dresses and we should just shut up and stop hating people for being different.

I don't think they could ever see that actually, that's exactly what we think too.

The lefties fundamentally believe in liberty vs authority so any pushback on the rights to self-expression particularly of a group that can be seen as/perceives itself as oppressed is seen as an affront to the freedom of the individual and therefore right-wing conservatism in action. (Fascists!) So TERFs are seen as opposing the rights of the oppressed trans and are therefore perceived as facists for not denying this freedom of self expression. I think in BBs case perhaps the chip on his shoulder that has had him challenging anyone or thing in a position of authority for years has blinded him to the bigger picture. Aside from this, I did read somewhere that left wing authoritarianism is associated with low verbal intelligence and I wonder if the people who believe in the gender ideology are genuinely limited through their limited vocabulary (in this area, not necessarily everywhere) to have a very basic view of the world where power=bad and no power/oppressed=good. Since trans women are obviously (sigh!) oppressed and their ‘rights’ denied, that simply makes GC women the baddies, in their eyes. And that’s as far as the thinking goes, and they can shout away, feeling self-righteous, victimised and angry.

I think because it doesn't affect them so they don't care, they assume (from the standpoint of having the standard, universal experience), they assume it doesn't affect us, if we're not haterz.

I'm engaged in an argument with one on another forum. He is convinced that a GRC is always the solution, because obviously if a man without one enters a female-only space you can just report them to the police, who will immediately take action. He doesn't understand why I find this risible.

They're exhausting. The amount of effort they put into finding ways for men to breach women's boundaries without accepting that's what they're doing is astonishing.
