And the presenter on R4 is actually going with it. And sympathising with the person that obviously men can give birth. Or is he just presenting it so that the audience can draw their own conclusions?

Whatever it is, it is winding me up no end. I have listened to R4 for the past 50 years - 50 YEARS!! every night without fail, while I potter about in the kitchen, tidying up and popping a bit of baking in the oven. I love radio 4, it has seen me through many traumas. Divorce, death of parents, death of sibling, permanently life altering illness of my child. Radio 4 has always been there as a stalwart support. A reality check. Reassurance that the rest of the world continues as normal - ordinary, normal even if it's bad news or a war between foreign nations. Right up to 1am and "Sailing By"

I love Sailing By. I find it, at the same time, both soothing and sad (because it's a reminder of times past)

But the shite that I've just listened to has totally wrecked it for me.
What a load of utter bollocks they have just allowed on air.

Unless they're just airing it to show how ludicrous and self absorbed some people can be. . . . .

OP I have so much sympathy for you. I've stopped listening to R4 a year or more ago, too disappointed in the nonsense.

It is the babies that I feel for. Testosterone completely fucks up female reproductive systems is so many known way and no doubt many yet unknown ways. Even if it is paused for pregnancy, the long-term effects on the development of the foetus are completely unknown. Pregnant women get judged for taking a paracetamol but are applauded if their bodies are full of wrong sex hormones as they gestate.

Will they care though? Publicly-funded broadcasters can afford to care a lot less about ratings than commercial broadcasters.

I’m working on the assumption someone has to be listening. Pretty soon no one will be. The output is beyond dire. I don’t just mean the woke bollocks, it’s so smug and boring now.

I fucked up my female body by fucking with her hormones with birth control for decades. Apparently this is something many of us only find out when reaching our 40s. That's same sex hormones - taking cross sex hormones is undoubtedly going to do more damage, and that's before factoring in a child.

The true cost of this trend may never be fully counted. It certainly won't be accountable for, the doctors who prescribed it will be long since retired by the time the trans identifying people's babies grow old enough to see the signs.

I know how you feel OP. I have listened to radio 4 all my life from childhood, through university, working all over the world and carrying a radio with me SW/MW/ LW little radio abroad - remember those days? Radio 4 was my best friend, the backdrop to my life. I had to ditch it 3 years ago, and when I catch it on in my mother's house it is unbearable. Every programme is contaminated with propaganda and woke crap from The Archers to Open Country. Dumbed down, patronising, nasty propaganda - so transparent and depressing. Even the beloved World Service is going the same way.

Agree. It's been the backdrop to my life too. Thinking it was dull whilst baking with my grandma in the 70s, taking comfort in its familiarity whilst sulking through my teenage years in the 80s and 90s, starting to adult along to it in the 00s, and leaning on it when life started getting hard and throwing curve balls at me beyond that. Always the voice of reason, an advocator for women, a broad, honest and relatable world view. Something you could count on.

And now completely alien. Infiltrated and unrecognisable. And so fucking smug. I wish they had the balls to be true to themselves and stand up for the audience who have stood by them for years.

Nor would I if it continues thusly. I'm very attached to it. I'm a radio rather than TV person. People talk about the family huddling round the radio on the fifties and sixties and I know what they are talking about because that's what we did!
(Although I wasn't around in the fifties but the rest of my family were)
I actually prefer radio. I like how you can do other stuff while listening. Before Walkmans and then tapes, and then CDs and then ipods and then the internet and then smartphones and before you know it, every single person you pass in the street is hooked up to something. That precludes them from passing the time of day with you. Nobody needs to talk any more.

It's all very sad. I think back to my childhood, and young adulthood, and friends had to work hard to get together. .f you were meeting X at 6.30pm in town then you had to be there. There was no whatsapp to allow you to flake.

I remember one time I had an emergency appendectomy and I was supposed to be meeting my best friend that day to do the regular pub crawl in Leeds town centre. It was an every Friday thing when we were in late teens. We just met up outside Woolworths at seven. Every Friday. Mobile phones did not exist, Landlines were only for people who could afford them. There was no way I could have let her know I wouldn't be there.

So I enlisted the help of my brother (10 years older than me, so pretty grown up)
Just to be there and explain to my friend that I was in hospital in recovery.
This was before keyhole surgery. I had proper invasive surgery.

So anyway they got a taxi to visit me but I was still in surgery so they had to go home without seeing me.

Just trying to make folks acknowledge that living life on your mobile phone is not living life at all. Just get off it. It's not that hard.

A person with XY chromosomes (aka a man) cannot become pregnant. So if the transman was really serious about wanting to be a man the last thing I would have thought they would want to do would be to get pregnant. Because it proves, y'know, they are actually still a woman.

I listen to R4 a lot - lots of great programmes. Yes the trans nonsense gets mentioned but not all that often -Easy to switch off/change channels when it does - no more often than the same topic pops up almost everywhere nowadays.
