Apologies if there’s already a thread about this. I searched but we all know what Mumsnet search functionality is like!

I’m watching the Elliot Page documentary on the BBC and I’m struck by how sad and depressed he seems. Has anyone else seen it? It’s such an awkward interview because the interviewer has a permanent grin on her face like she’s trying not to laugh!

'before stepping into my truth, being in this body'

Mate, you are still and always will be in that same body. You only get one.

RoseslnTheHospital · 21/06/2023 15:40

I don't know why I'd want to watch it tbh. Nothing about Page at the moment is comfortable to watch. The account in the autobiography of all the abuse Page suffered as a younger person is really shocking even for Hollywood standards, and it is deeply sad that it seems the parents didn't support Page being same sex attracted.

Lottapianos · 21/06/2023 15:44

It's a sad sad story. I read an interview with Page a couple of weeks ago and it was just a litany of abuse, sexual assault and trauma. I felt so very sorry for Page, who has clearly suffered enormously and developed gender dysphoria as a result

Madcats · 21/06/2023 15:47

Page is giving off the vibes of somebody who has just had some really bad news and is trying to hold it together. The eyes look "dead".

Tenuously linked, but I have just been watching a video posted by "Milo" who featured in a 2016 MTV documentary called "Transformation" and has just decided to stop taking testosterone.

The original doc is here:

That didn't work:

Hopefully this documentary is updated so that people know the truth.

I wasn't aware of all of that history. How very sad.

Poor Milo. I remember watching that MTV video when it came out. And Elliot always looked ‘hurt’ to me - what a strange and damaging life they’ve had. I wish I could believe they’re happy now.

BabyStopCryin · 21/06/2023 16:12

I was a therapist back in the day and worked with some individuals who had a similar ‘look’.

Dissociated, detached, deep discontent and difficulty engaging or finding joy in life. Hard cases to deal with as you feel that you are trying to lure them back from the edge of the ledge.

I hope they find their ‘happiness’ and are getting good help for past abuses in their life which could have led them to this major life-altering choice.

ArabeIIaScott · 21/06/2023 16:16

Yes, same, BabyStopCryin. I hope Elliot finds peace and contentment.

Delphinium20 · 21/06/2023 16:16

Elliot seems like the sort of person who never received the right help at the right time. Celebrityhood celebrates a faux self of the latest fads and fashions. While she's getting loads of attention and love bombing from the media, it's unhealthy attention and I fear for her next break, which seems likely.

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 21/06/2023 16:21

Poor Milo. All that done to her with her consent , before she was an adult. She’s only in her early twenties, and she is in very poor health, and in despair.

‘Whoever causes one of these little ones to stumble, it were better for them to have a millstone hung around their neck, and be drowned in the depth of the sea’.

GreatBigBoots · 21/06/2023 16:31

I feel very sorry for Page. It seems that Page has been let down repeatedly by people who should have protected Page and has suffered greatly. In that situation I can understand that becoming someone different would be appealing. I would like to think that this has given Page the peace and happiness that Page deserves but sadly I am not convinced that this is the case.

ArabeIIaScott · 21/06/2023 16:33

'I will never be a woman ... I just want to be a ten year old boy'

That is some disordered thinking, there.

Clymene · 21/06/2023 16:35

I can't watch it. Page is so very damaged, it's just very uncomfortable to see.

I watched Milo's video today and I was crying with her. The surgeons and medics who have ruined her body and health are butchers.

FantasticElasticBand · 21/06/2023 16:48

Interesting vocal frass. I think Exulansic spoke about this in relation to drug treatments and their effects on tissues - that the tissues that make up the vocal cords are in other parts of our bodies. So, if the vocal cords are affected, what else is..?

Fenlandia · 21/06/2023 16:53

All the TRAs who wang on about 'trans joy' should be ashamed of themselves for cheerleading this damaged person living out their trauma in public.

BezMills · 21/06/2023 17:22

I am so sad to see Elliot having such a rough time.
I remember her as Trina Lahey in Trailer Park Boys, she would have been maybe 14. She had this handsy theatre club acting style which was quite at odds with her much older colleagues, who were either stalwarts like John Dunsworth or effective amateurs like Rob Wells. She had some lovely moments with Rob Wells (Ricky).
She always struck me as a funny and thoughtful kid. She had her life ahead of her.
Now it's painful to see him in such a bad way. Hollywood can really chew up a young person and spit them out broken as shells.
Maybe her trauma in the industry has led him down this path. Fuck.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 21/06/2023 17:28

I haven't seen this and almost certainly won't, but I just wanted to speak up for the MN advanced search function, which is pretty good. The ordinary search box is no good at all for searching threads.

As you were.

SockGoddess · 21/06/2023 17:32

I feel quite unnerved by the "trans joy" phrase/concept and find it really uncomfortable. It feel hollow and like a mantra that has to be said to squash down any doubts or worries whatsoever.

I don't mean I think all trans people are unhappy - some, especially those who accept biological reality and the limits of transition, do seem happy with their path. But you hear "trans joy" a lot in situations that don't seem very joyful. Page seems to be trying to convince themself here.

Also I know this comes up a lot but WHY do so many trans men have such non-masculine hairstyles? If you want to look male it's not helping! I really don't get this.

Ourladycheesusedatum · 21/06/2023 17:34

I wont be watching. It's too sad. I saw page in Juno and loved page in it so much.
It's like page was born to act.
Every single time I see a photo now I'm struck by how unhappy page looks. Even if smiling theres a sadness around the face.

I wont buy into the whole caboodle so it's another reason to not watch.

BezMills · 21/06/2023 17:35

Elliot is tiny and would barely pass as Frodo Baggins' stunt double. A short back n sides won't help. Maybe if he saw Tom Cruises cobbler he could make 5'5

SockGoddess · 21/06/2023 17:43

There are plenty of masculine - or just male-looking - short men! I'm not saying men should stick to any particular haircut - men can have long hair obvs. And I'm not saying hairstyle is what mainly makes someone look male. But If you're a female who wants to come over as male and goes to the extent of having surgery and hormones to change your body, why have a chic feminine short cut last seen on Keira Knightley and Kate Moss, instead of what a man would typically have?

Not my business of course I realise that. It just really confuses me.

CheeseBandit · 21/06/2023 17:52

If you look back at photos of Page with their wife, they look genuinely happy. It’s so sad.

Honestly one of the images I saw from the documentary just reminded me of a ex-colleague, a middle age lesbian. They don’t look male, just frail.
