I don’t think I agree with this and it would appear to be a colossal own goal from someone who has placed himself as a free speech defender. (Unless he is going to use this to show how wrong it is to declare certain words ‘slurs’ and ban them in a ‘look at this anti- free speech position can also be used against you too self-styled progressive lefties! Do you see the importance of free speech now??’ Sort of way).
I despise the word ‘cis’ for the same host of reasons everyone here does, but it exists as a word to describe a concept within a particular belief system, much like ‘infidel’ ‘apostate’ or ‘unsaved’ do within their belief systems. I don’t think those words should be banned either even though I don’t like the concepts they describe either.
The real battle is that ‘cis’ should be used only within private belief systems, as ‘infidel’ and ‘unsaved’ do. Public bodies should not be adopting this word which reflects an invented concept within an unevidenced, unscientific secular belief system which is offensive (and harmful) to many.
