About fecking time. Now make "sex" a category that can be subject to harassment

I bet the TRAs are losing their tiny minds! 😁

MichelleScarn · 21/06/2023 06:51

Oh they are 'Jonathan' is telling Musk that he's only the owner, not the one in charge!

bellinisurge · 21/06/2023 06:53

"But it's just a scientific term. You people are anti science " etc etc. Good news

The worm has turned.

TodayInahurry · 21/06/2023 06:57

Good, I regard it as an insult from unpleasant people

Theunamedcat · 21/06/2023 06:59

Please don't backtrack!

highame · 21/06/2023 07:00

Yes, it is a scientific term but it has been hijacked.

Slothtoes · 21/06/2023 07:08

‘Cis’ should never be used in any secular neutral discussion. Nor should it be used by gender identity politics believers who are trying to avoid projecting any prejudice.
‘Cis’ should be put in the same nasty derogatory category as religious people’s insults for people who don’t share their belief system. That is how ‘cis’ is used and what it means.

BordoisAgain · 21/06/2023 07:12

Lots of words now considered slurs were previously scientific terms.

In this particular case the word is not even being used in the scientific context it actually means.

bellinisurge · 21/06/2023 07:16

A term coined by a paedophile to describe people who are not trans is not a term I want used to describe me .

I don’t think I agree with this and it would appear to be a colossal own goal from someone who has placed himself as a free speech defender. (Unless he is going to use this to show how wrong it is to declare certain words ‘slurs’ and ban them in a ‘look at this anti- free speech position can also be used against you too self-styled progressive lefties! Do you see the importance of free speech now??’ Sort of way).

I despise the word ‘cis’ for the same host of reasons everyone here does, but it exists as a word to describe a concept within a particular belief system, much like ‘infidel’ ‘apostate’ or ‘unsaved’ do within their belief systems. I don’t think those words should be banned either even though I don’t like the concepts they describe either.

The real battle is that ‘cis’ should be used only within private belief systems, as ‘infidel’ and ‘unsaved’ do. Public bodies should not be adopting this word which reflects an invented concept within an unevidenced, unscientific secular belief system which is offensive (and harmful) to many.

Good and about time.

Twitter isn't a place for nuanced discussion, or rationality. What I have often seen is people saying one minute 'Everybody should be able to identify as they like, nobody knows better than you your true self, you're trans if you say you are, identity matters far more than body parts' etc etc and in the next breath when someone objects to being labelled as cisgender 'But it's a statement of fact! How can you object to a scientific fact? Bigot!'

What I hope Musk is instructing the moderators is that if a Twitter user objects to being labelled as cis/cisgender or related insults (James Esses says he has been taunted with being a cissy, for example), this will be grounds for sanctions on the offending users who refuse a reasonable request from another user to desist.

PurpleBugz · 21/06/2023 07:31

My initial response was great but read a few comments and someone on twitter says they use it on their dating profile as a preference to say they don't want to date trans people without 'being offensive' and getting banned. Which made me pause to think. Maybe natal women is the equivalent 🤷‍♀️

Narutocrazyfox · 21/06/2023 07:33

Excellent news, keep up the good work Mr. Musk!

Yes, and he's also made the point about calling yourself what you like, in a reply to someone else. It seems it's more about not insisting others have labels that you apply to them. Which seems fair?

Or just 'woman' ....

PurpleBugz · 21/06/2023 07:38

@hannahwaddinghamsbiceps

Yes woman would be the preferred word. But in the example of dating sites using that word as what you seek you get messages from men so I do see the need for a word

MrsOvertonsWindow · 21/06/2023 07:43

This month is turning out to be a revelation! Long overdue that the imposition of language and a false identity on the majority by a small unrepresentative but exceptionally powerful group was challenged.

bellinisurge · 21/06/2023 07:45

@PurpleBugz , I see what you are trying to do but Be Kind is over. "Women" doesn't need a qualifier .

mumda · 21/06/2023 07:57

It is wonderful to hear.

NotHavingIt · 21/06/2023 07:59

The most important thing is that the term is now up for discussion and is no longer seen as a natural or neutral term. It is an ideological term which has been imposed on others without their permission. Which is, of course, a huge irony given how sensitive and precious trans activists are about the use of 'correc't pronouns.
