'A female-only lesbian advocacy group in France was excluded from their local Pride parade on the basis that they did not allow the membership of trans-identified males. Femmes Entre Elles was labeled “transphobic” for restricting its advocacy to issues faced by women.
Femmes Entre Elles, which translates to “Women Among Themselves,” is a single-sex association for lesbian and bisexual women that has operated for over 30 years. It has been involved in campaigns to support women’s sex-based rights and the rights of lesbian women.
But on May 27, the group was informed via email that they were not welcome to participate in the annual Pride march in Rennes'

I imagine that Labour Party speakers at any conference could be called some kind of slur because there will be people in the audience who are considered that slur and will get photos taken.

I can tell you Lesbians are already self-excluding into secret social groups.

Yes we are! My secret group of lesbian and bi-sexual women are meeting tonight....it's shame we have to keep it secret and it makes me angry that if we were to declare publicly that this group exists then we'd be vilified for not allowing biological men attend but that's what we have to do to ensure that nobody with a penis feels they have a right to be there.

I'm confident that I have more first-hand experience of dating as a lesbian in the current climate than either Sandy Toksvig or Nancy Kelley, both of whom have been married for years.

Why should the views of famous lesbians who don't have to concern themselves with dating carry more weight than the quieter lesbians who are just trying to live their lives and hopefully find a female partner in the process?

It's not fair to keep throwing out the same names as "experts" in lesbianism - if you are a lesbian, then by all means, share your own experience, but to suggest that x, y and z people are the absolute authority on the views of all lesbians is absurd and insulting.

I'm just about to go for a long visit to two women who have been my closest friends (and ex lovers, if it's relevant) for over forty years. We've all been extremely active in both feminist and lesbian politics for all of that time, living in lesbian housing co-ops, working in women only businesses, making our lives and giving our energy and resources as far as is humanly possible with and to women and not men. Every lesbian struggle - and a fair few gay ones, back in the day when we still foolishly believed that there would be reciprocity from men in the gay movement - we were there. Every Pride march, when Pride still meant something, was simultaneously a protest, a wild declaration of visibility and a great excuse for a party. This year my holiday is overshadowed by the fact that the protest, along with the movement, that we helped to create has now been twisted so far from its original spirit and purpose that we have to attend, not to participate, but to protest the very thing that used to validate us.

You can't be a Lesbian if you refuse to admit what one is. You can't be a Lesbian if you refuse to admit what a woman is.
