You mean she isn't?

No, she isn't.

Is this your latest effort to deflect from all the questions that have been asked since you Godwinned? You shouldn't have let on that you were actually still here.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 14/06/2023 15:45

I read news from a wide variety of sources: The Guardian, Mail on line, Byline Times, local press, Twitter, I watch ITV and Channel 4 news and listen to LBC. I do this to try to address my own biases (we all have them) and to try get a nuanced picture of current affairs.

Me too.

IcakethereforeIam · 14/06/2023 15:53

Still waiting for the name of an approved newspaper on this issue, I even said 'please'.

I'm starting to think that some of the people who disapprove of us approving the DM talking about it, don't approve of anyone talking about it.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 14/06/2023 15:56

eliminating a subset of women

Male ones? Think you'll find they aren't anything to do with women. And who is talking about "eliminating" anyone? The hyperbole is real.

Why? So you can then list all the reasons you personally do not like that paper?

My mum reads the Daily Mail (for the TV guide mainly) and is not a nasty right-wing fruitcake. She's a quite ordinary apolitical retired woman of working class origins who likes cats, ballet and historical romances. This country is full of people like her, largely filling their days with unpaid care (grandchildren and elderly parents).

My mum is similar.

To those on the left, that IS a right-wing fruitcake! Everyone who disagrees with them in any way is a right-wing fruitcake.
Mildly patriotic? You're a right-wing nutcase.
Don't hate your own country? You're a right-wing nutcase.
Don't believe we should be re-writing classic novels? You're a right-wing nutcase.
Don't believe every migrant is a genuine refugee? You're a right-wing nutcase. Don't believe that everyone on disability benefits is genuinely ill? You're a right-wing nutcase.

Never underestimate how full of spite and hatred the left really are. They hide behind a mask of moral superiority, but when you get to know them, you often find bitterness, cruelty and breathtaking intolerance. They hate ordinary, suburban, Daily Mail readers like your mum. For example, I knew a local conservative counsellor, a very nice, polite, middle-class lady who lived in a detached house on the edge of our village. An estate was built next to her, and a 'problem family' moved into the social housing bit. When she complained about their behaviour, they made her life a misery. When a left-wing neighbour of mine heard about this, she literally burst out laughing. She could hardly contain her joy at the thought of "that posh b*tch" having her life ruined. That's the left in a nutshell.

ArabeIIaScott · 14/06/2023 14:44

You are positing this as the absolute number one issue facing women and girls in 2023?

I'm afraid I don't agree. The erosion of the legal class of 'women' is coming higher up in my list of concerns.

I call strawnan on this post

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 14/06/2023 15:58

Because a thread was started about why we should appreciate the DM. Lots of people have vocalised why they take particular issue with it. Not sure why we then have to have a row over every single papers pros and cons.

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 14/06/2023 16:00

So hang on

you can list the reasons you don’t like the mail but no one else can talk about what they think of other news outlets?

seems legit

I did mention this one earlier. So it seems the centre left is a vacuum on this as pro male

You mean she isn't?

Would you like to point out where Julie Bindel's articles are incorrect, inaccurate or not representing a feminist viewpoint?

Rather than attempting an ad hominem attack towards Julie Bindel that is.

Have you got any actual answers, or are you just doing the "if I make a funny people will forget they asked" thing?

I mean, that can work, but you have to succeed with the funny.

IcakethereforeIam · 14/06/2023 16:17

Seasonofthewitch83 · 14/06/2023 15:56

I suppose that's a fair assumption. Because no publication is entirely unproblematical. I wish the Guardian would return to sanity. Even if the Times or the Telegraph weren't behind a paywall, I don't agree with the bulk of the politics they espouse. The Express seems barmy (though that was Brexit) and the Independent, when I remember it exists, is nearly as bad as Pink News. I did have a faint hope there'd be something I missed.

So, for news outside of politics I check the Guardian. I don't read the Mail but I will read flagged articles on this subject.

Oh yeah, the Sun, puhleeze, the Mirror, unreadable so many popups and ads, though it's been ages since I've looked at it.

So, I appreciate the DM covering this subject, the light it shines on it and for bringing attention to a wider readership. I don't care what their motives are. I'm not happy about it, I sympathise with pp and the problems they have with things like its sidebar. My approving or disapproving of the DM will have zero affect on it or on anyone else reading or not reading it.

Helleofabore · 14/06/2023 16:23

PrincessPalatine · 14/06/2023 16:13

so, that would be a no then.

Good to know.

Shall we appreciate the Völkische Beobachter and the Stürmer next? The naivety of some MNers never fails to astound me.

Yes, we must refuse to read news reported by non-approved sources. Those nasty facts they report could hurt some men’s feelings.

Ofcourseshecan · 14/06/2023 16:30

And ironically it was in The Guardian, back when it was a reputable newspaper, that I read that anyone who used ‘Nazi’ as a routine insult for non-fascist opponents had automatically lost the argument.

SpicyMoth · 14/06/2023 16:30

Don't get me wrong, I've never been a fan of the Daily Mail generally speaking - but let's be real here; the snobbery just isn't warranted.

Every single main stream newspaper will have its biases and it's views, it's just a matter of whether you agree with it or not that taints your opinion.
Every media outlet to ever exist is guilty of stretching the truth, lying by omission, or just outright lying at some point. They ALL have an agenda whether you'd like to think so or not.

The ganging up on one specific newspaper from MNer's is quite shocking to me to be honest? I thought it was just common sense that it's wise to look at news from all sides of the isle as opposed to just a select few so that you can actually get a full picture of something??

CandidaAlbicans2 · 14/06/2023 16:34

I'm very glad the DM are covering the womens rights Vs trans issues as it's getting this shit out to a wide audience. However, I'm not sure their motives are honourable and that they are doing it to benefit women, but rather they dislike men in dresses and want to turn the public against them. That they've chosen to attack them under the guise of "women's rights". They seem to love building the public up into a froth of rage, so whatever works for them.

The reason I say that is because they are very fond of publishing photos of women and judging their appearances, either positive (in the case of sexy, young, attractive females), or negatively (anyone else). But as I said, good on them for highlighting the trans issue, which is more than can be said for much of the mainstream media 🙄

@RudsyFarmer
'Strawnan'?
Typo? Or is a strawnan something I need to learn about?
