😂
Someone on a thread on the feminism board, saying that they don't agree with women being objectified, being told this isn't the thread place for them.
Says it all.
It's not about women on here. Hasn't been for a while now.

Lack of independent thought. They can't be bothered to consider more than one aspect at a time

A thread that will clash on mn, but why not get people discussing it

The DM isn’t on my list of go tos but I can see it has strong reader numbers. With this stuff I wonder why the media on the left is so incapable of covering GC issues from pro women perspective.

They drive out decent journalists who do not agree with pro male TRA stance or muddle through bad articles without pronouns

So there’s a pretty big gap between The Morning Star (apparently I don’t read it) to The Telegraph with the centre left joining on the side of a minority of men

I wonder why the media on the left is so incapable of covering GC issues from pro women perspective. They drive out decent journalists who do not agree with pro male TRA stance.

Well I guess the simplest explanation would be that the media on the left is pro-men and not pro-women’s rights.

RudsyFarmer · 14/06/2023 14:37

I’m not shirty at all. I LOVE the fact we are debating this.

The closing down of conversation is much of my push back on this. I accepted transwomen in my spaces for two decades until the TRAs demanded I capitulate on everything from the words I use to describe myself, to my changing areas and speech all the way through to the school curriculum and the thoughts in my head. I’ll be damned if a hate group gets to decide law and I lie down and accept it.

AlwaysGinPlease · 14/06/2023 14:39

That vile blonde thing shouting and swearing then assaulting him. I know what he needs and it's not pleasant but it would be very well deserved. What a POS. Hope the guy in the suit is ok.

FuckYouDailyMail · 14/06/2023 14:43

On this one issue I agree and appreciate what the DM are publishing. Still not changing my user name though!

ArabeIIaScott · 14/06/2023 14:44

saltyseashell · 14/06/2023 14:23

I mean, I literally said it in the post but happy to reiterate. The sexualisation of female bodies by tabloids and the rejection of publications who make money from that is a great place to start.

You are positing this as the absolute number one issue facing women and girls in 2023?

I'm afraid I don't agree. The erosion of the legal class of 'women' is coming higher up in my list of concerns.

Read a newspaper for information.

Don't read it for salvation, or to show allegiance. If you restrict your exposure to news to only those outlets you deem morally worthy, then you risk sealing yourself in a bubble.

Capitalism is doing odd things to people's moral compasses. So many people seem to make moral judgements on very slight bases.

So we get 'dog whistles' and cancelling, ex-communicating those who've sinned. There seems to be a real fear of contamination when it comes to thoughts and beliefs. A new kind of pseudo religious thinking. Tribal, simplistic, and superstitious.

I guess if you don't practise critical thinking and interrogate assertions, seek evidence, look for altnerative views, then you may indeed be more susceptible to being accidentally brainwashed.

Yes. Each to their own. I read individual articles and I don't read whole newspapers. I find articles that I don't agree with on nearly every mainstream media outlet. That is perfectly fine. I don't blanket ban any news outlet because there is always something that will make me think things through even things I disagree with.

And I couldn't care less that a poster loves one media service over another. I am not here to make ridiculous judgements about their political leanings or their intelligence level or anything else.

I do find some posters views about refusing to read a Daily Mail article ridiculous if they believe that the journalism is not up to standard. I remember asking a poster once, who is now on this thread too, about how the DM can be 'far right' when Julie Bindel writes for them. I also remember asking them to tell the thread just where Julie Bindel was wrong in several articles. And there was crickets.

Yet, they still persist in posting the same assertions time and again.

only eliminating a subset of women they see as unaccepable.

men however they present are not a subset of women

Shall we appreciate the Völkische Beobachter and the Stürmer next? The naivety of some MNers never fails to astound me.

I'm not familiar with these titles, I'll assume they're something far right so they won't interest me. But, good for you being so informed on the far right.

They were Nazi propaganda newspapers.

Perhaps Princess only feels secure reading the Guardian. Watch out though, remember the Guardian can make serious omissions and be misleading at times.

It's just another sibser of ad hom attacks. Can't refute the argument; smear the poster.

MrsAlgernon · 14/06/2023 15:05

Many many years ago my case (not related to trans issues, without going into detail) broke out, all national newspapers, The Economist just spewed their predictable bias blindly affirming my side without the facts and DM was the only one that did actual investigative journalism and got more facts in the end.

I don't have favourite newspaper and I am still wary of DM for sensationalist panic-mongering tone on many issues. I like one poster above describing it is like eating sandwich with sand sometimes.

55balloons · 14/06/2023 12:56

@PriOn1 😂😂😂 I think this has to be a mumsnet classic "waking over the Daily Mail".. It stirs up feelings & emotions that's for sure.

Oof! Deleted again! Is Mumsnet getting more twitchy again or is it me? It’s ages since I’ve had a deletion, then I’ve had two in as many weeks. Then again, there does seem to be a lot of antagonistic posters appearing to tell us how awful we are at the moment. Probably because we’re making significant progress.

Exactly Helle. They can never answer what it is they actually disagree with us about gender ideology either, despite constantly mentioning that they disagree with us. But then again, they were instrumental in me noticing the total lack of coherent argument of gender ideology supporters when I was a lurker.

notokaywiththetropes · 14/06/2023 15:19

I'm still waiting to hear what approved of newspapers are making any noise about this issue.....

DarrellRiversCriminalBehaviourOrder · 14/06/2023 15:20

It may be worth remembering that when Julie Bindel recently confronted some people who were protesting against her speaking, they told her that they thought she was Julie Burchill.

Any of the news channels for that matter!

I suspect GB News have covered it, but again, not Approved Media

Ereshkigalangcleg · 14/06/2023 15:24

My mum reads the Daily Mail (for the TV guide mainly) and is not a nasty right-wing fruitcake. She's a quite ordinary apolitical retired woman of working class origins who likes cats, ballet and historical romances. This country is full of people like her, largely filling their days with unpaid care (grandchildren and elderly parents).

My mum is similar.

Are we not able to focus on more than one thing. The DM may have got this right but are so fucking awful on almost all other women's issues that to say they are doing this for women and not because it's an easy sell to their readership is being naive.

Is anyone saying though that they are doing it for women? I think it’s quite clear that for most of us, based on this thread, that we do not rely on any mainstream media source as holding certain core values. As a PP said, they are astute business people who know what topics drive their revenue. The fact that they can actually do relatively accurate journalism too is a bonus for those of us with an interest in this topic.
