Perhaps we could use this thread to share DM articles, that might not warrant their own thread? I do appreciate the light they're shining on this subject while feeling faintly appalled that it's come to this.

Anyway they've published another article on a teacher put through the wringer when asked to fill in for a 'sick' teacher to deliver a lesson on puberty. I wonder if the original teacher knew a poisoned chalice when they saw one. Sentence at the end, waddaya know....Stonewall.

@IcakethereforeIam good idea! I've been a mumsnetter for years & "a Daily Mail apprection thread" was never ever something I thought I'd see on here let alone start.. But here we are & fair play to the DM.
Telegraph & Times are also on this but the DM are playing a blinder & have huge social media presence, their articles really do travel!

The Daily Mail has been brilliant on this.

Plunkplink · 14/06/2023 10:36

Many years ago I was told it aims to be a paper for women and it certainly living up to that .

PrincessPalatine · 14/06/2023 10:37

Shall we appreciate the Völkische Beobachter and the Stürmer next? The naivety of some MNers never fails to astound me.

Godwin's law; you are irrelevant.

@PrincessPalatine sorry this is an apprection thread for the Daily Mail only.. You are free to start other appreciation threads.

I don't see anything wrong with reading articles from the DM. I think the snobbery over this on MN is silly. I also read articles from the Times, Telegraph, Spectator, Economist, the Guardian, lots of online things like Unheard, Quillette, various blogs.
The only things I really balk at are the Independent and the Metro, but it is useful to pay attention to what is in different publications.
Just because I read something doesn't mean I can't think critically about it.

That. No matter what my views might be on a single issue. The Mail is a complete tag of a newspaper. Agreeing with me in any one issue does not make it even close to a decent newspaper. It backs some disgusting views and I find it pathetic that people are prepared to forget that.

saraclara · 14/06/2023 10:41

Rag of a newspaper, even

This is awful. I hope this man takes legal action. We're going to get to a point where no teacher except one with a political agenda pushing an ideology will agree to give lessons on puberty.

What the school did in this circumstance is abuse the safeguarding system to make this man's life a misery and it worked because he's effectively given up teaching (except for supply).

Meantime, we have the 'school of sexuality education' (not sex, you note, sexuality) sending staff who have not gone through the same safeguarding checks as school staff into schools and this organisation has staff who have links to fetish websites. Which is apparently FINE. And parents being denied the right to scrutinise their resources.

School of sexuality education are the ones who got children to draw pictures of the dick pics they'd received - thereby exposing any of the children who HADN'T ever received dick pics to inappropriate images, and potentially retraumatising the children who had.

And they claimed that children could magically become assertive enough to remove themselves from the lesson if they wanted to, conflating the abilities of fully functioning adults with children and in my opinion pretending that they do not understand normal childhood behaviour and child development. I just don't believe it, my daughter could never just stand up in a lesson and say it made her feel uncomfortable and leave, even if she was severely traumatised by the content.

I'm not familiar with these titles, I'll assume they're something far right so they won't interest me. But, good for you being so informed on the far right.

55balloons · 14/06/2023 10:53

They were papers in Nazi Germany. I reckon you can see where poster is going with this one.

hamstersarse · 14/06/2023 10:53

I have appreciated the DM for some time.

All I know about them is that they are prepared to report every story that is out there - they don't avoid any topic. They may have a weird slant on some things but at least they report it. There are many news outlets (looking at you BBC) that are just not capable of even reporting on some topics and I find that sad and pathetic - much more than any accusations the DM get of being literal nazis.

55balloons · 14/06/2023 10:55

@hamstersarse the Guardian & BBC have failed to report on Reem Alsalem speaking out, it's pretty powerful as she's from the UN.

A newspaper who can’t help itself and has to provide the price of the parents’ house for the two young students murdered yesterday. The rehabilitation of the DM, really?!

So, just to be clear, are you saying you make snap, wholesale judgements about an individual and their whole character and values, based solely on the fact that they may occasionally read an article printed in a newspaper that you do not approve of?
You automatically make assumptions about their personal views and personal politics?

And, as a side note, you are also aware that there are plenty of people who feel very strongly that all and any users of Mumsnet, particularly the FWR section, where this thread is, and you’ve just posted on, are nasty, right wing fruitcakes? So, in your case, would those people be correct in their assumption?

Ah

everyone who reads the mail is a nasty right wing fruitcake?

sounds like snobbery to me 👍

(note to self, use fruitcake more often in conversation. I like it)
