No-one in the Labour Party ever seems to be remotely interested in my Marxism.

I'm quite the gutted comrade this morning.

NicCageisnotNickCave · 12/06/2023 11:19

Haven’t read the thread so apologies if this has been noted already, but Elon recently replied to a couple of James Esses’ tweets.

Regardless of anyone’s personal views on Musk, his interactions with this topic on GC twitter are undoubtedly bringing the sensible voices to a bigger, wider audience than ever before.

As we all know, the overly influential meddling of Silicon Valley tech bros has weighted the debate in favour of TRA’s for more than a decade, Musk knows that world, can change that world, can enable a multiplicity of voices to get through.

We’ve had to battle this with one hand tied behind our backs and Musk has loosened those ties. Hopefully they’ll be completely untied in time.

Just look at Josh and Kiwi Farms as an example of how individual influential engineers in IT companies can prevent scores of thousands of random strangers from having a free (and sweary) discussion.

@NicCageisnotNickCave AND Elon Musk is speaking as a father of a trans child which carries so much more weight.

Agreed. It was KiwiFarms which first began to document the harms and mutilations that have been performed by unscrupulous and incompetant surgeons on young people in the name of 'gender confirmation surgery'.

Some of these surgeries look like Unit 731 experiments. And that is not me exaggerating or being dramatic.

Regardless of how one feels about transgerism, the mutilation, high complication rate and shoddy medical care of trans people is something we should ALL be concerned about. Yet it was hushed up until Kiwifarms started a thread, documenting pictures of surgeries, and highlighting butchered trans folks' cries for help.

The fearless Sierra Weir (Exulansic) is also doing excellent and very humane and sympathetic work on this.

yet the loudest TRAs want to cover up this medical scandal.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 12/06/2023 14:15

So pleased that Musk has noticed what's happened to James Esses. The fact that he was expelled for challenging what's happening to children is particularly awful.

Ofcourseshecan · 12/06/2023 14:56

From the little I know about Elon Musk, I doubt if I would like him. But that doesn’t matter. I am overjoyed that someone so influential is supporting free speech and the right to state facts. This plays a massive role in defending women’s single-sex rights and protecting children.

His views on other matters are irrelevant. I really don’t give a damn about his personality. I wasn’t planning to invite him to dinner.

AutumnCrow · 12/06/2023 15:05

It is a bit of a JKR moment.

Moonandstarz · 12/06/2023 15:05

He's definitely going to draw full on publicity to what exactly is being done to young children, he already is. Hopefully with Elon on the case the next generation of children will be protected.

OP posts:
Forwarder · 12/06/2023 16:24

Elon Musk is concerned about children sterilising themselves.

Less so about women's rights and dignity.

He has a large number of children with several different women. Pretty sure none of the children were procured in the traditional manner.

He persuaded his first wife to carry FIVE babies over a two year period. IVF twins followed straight away by IVF triplets. I'm not convinced he is entirely on the side of women.

Moonandstarz · 12/06/2023 16:29

@Forwarder at the moment Elon Musk drawing huge publicity to what's being done to these poor children within the TRA community involving mutilation, sterilisation & irreversible hormone treatment.
This can only be a seen as a positive step & it's raising global awareness as to what is happening.

OP posts:
TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 12/06/2023 16:59

I don’t think he is ‘entirely on the side of women,’ but that’s not what anyone is claiming.
People are saying how great it is he is speaking up on this one because he has huge reach and is very influential.

AutumnCrow · 12/06/2023 17:06

Yes, there's a difference between 'how great IT is' these tweets exist (and are permitted), and 'how great HE is'.

When the house is on fire, I don't care right in the heat of it if the 999 operator is a massive arsehole or not - I want them to send the fire service out.

georgarina · 12/06/2023 17:23

PrincessPalatine · 11/06/2023 22:48

Whatever my views on the issue, I don't trust Elon Musk any further than I can throw him.

Same.
Whenever people like Musk get involved I think of whipping up controversies to distract people from something bigger.

Moonandstarz · 12/06/2023 17:34

@georgarina I don't think it gets much bigger or horrific than the mutilating, sterilising & pumping irreversible hormones into children.

OP posts:
anyolddinosaur · 12/06/2023 17:34

He's getting involved because someone persuaded one of his children that there was something wrong with them because they didnt want to conform to gender stereotypes. That child is believed to be autistic.

I have paid very little attention to Elon Musk beyond knowing that he was involved with Tesla. I'm still waiting to be told what support he's given to Putin or Orban. Funny how statements are presented as fact but when you ask for the details the poster is disinclined to reply.

That makes you sound like a bit of a conspiracy theorist.
Given that one of his children is trans it’s far more likely that his interest is driven by that as any father’s would be.

Moonandstarz · 12/06/2023 17:41

@TheCountessofFitzdotterel the fact that Elon is the parent of a trans child give his tweets even more power. This is the rapid progress that's needed.

You don't think public/political figures polarise social issues to gain a following?
You hardly need to be a flat earther to know they do.
Elon Musk is not a good guy. He attempted to test brain microchips on human subjects - after 15 of 17 monkeys died in the animal trial - but was rejected.

anyolddinosaur · 12/06/2023 17:58

He now has approval for brain implants. He's trying to help people walk again - like these Swedish researchers https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-65689580 Wow - what a terrible thing to try and do!

Brain implants help paralysed man to walk again

A paralysed man has been able to walk simply by thinking about it, thanks to electronic brain implants

You think the world divides neatly into Good Guys and Bad Guys and you have decided Musk is a Bad Guy so anything he does that might possibly look good must be for a Bad Reason.
Public figures are also human beings and like all human beings they are driven by a variety of factors but those closely affecting themselves and their families are particularly significant.
Guess what, capricious billionaires with inconceivable amounts of power in the public sphere also care about their children.

Isn't it great @georgarina! These children need someone exactly like Elon to advocate on their behalf & to raise awareness about what the hell is happening. And who also so happens to be the parent of a trans child!

Elon Musk is a colossal knob. End of.

PonyPatter44 · 12/06/2023 18:36

He is a knob - but right now, he's a knob doing our work for us, with greater reach and influence than pretty much anyone else on the planet.

Will I be raging further down the line if he decides to use that reach and influence against a different cause that negatively impacts me? Of course I will, and I don't doubt that will happen. But right now, the knob is on our side.
