My local council tweets pics of the 'safe space' if you're out late and feel threatened. Manned by (male) Met officers (plural). One thing that doesn't make me feel is safe.

I am genuinely stunned at this behaviour by Surrey Police. A total abuse of power. Shameful.

And I'm pretty certain that a comment pointing out that women have every reason NOT to feel safe with male Met police late at night would be met with 'well it's a few bad apples, we're committed to changing the culture, blah blah.' Rather like the way the Stop VAWAG campaign in my borough is led by, you guessed it, a male councillor. No answer to why any women weren't considered for the job.

I'm sorry this happened to you. It is one reason why i don't trust the police at all. Not one of them. Or the criminal justice system (in the UK).

When we know for sure that rapists get off all the time, how many women are murdered weekly, and that any positive policing in respect of women is hugely dependent on age/race/class (any and all of them separately and in combination) this action is... i would say unbelievable but we know how plod are.

It might be an idea to contact the MP in
Surrey area if you live there - certainly my MP has been very helpful - and ask them to personally get involved. More support might be forthcoming. If this is a miscarriage of justice or another witch hunt then CF could surely do with some representation. Email PM’s office and start to really fight back.

These draconian measures are quite rightly used to protect society from adults who sexually abuse children & stalk and threaten mainly women. The idea that a police force has decided they're proportionate to use against a woman for alleged "misgendering" / saying hurtful words online seems to be an abuse of process?

This thread is a very useful reminder of how police forces can "overreach" to put it mildly when they get inappropriately involved with activists involved with sexual politics. It's well worth having a listen to Harry Miller's Triggernometry interview - and to hear from someone (for a change) with a clear grasp of the law, police procedure and abuse of power:

These measures are there to prevent further offences and protect vulnerable people not just people who sexually abuse children & stalk and threaten mainly women.

The court will decide if there is a necessity for this order to be imposed - not the police.

Not replying to you isn't "banning your freedom of speech". You aren't stopped from posting, it just means that other people are ignoring you.

Instead of misusing the term "victim", which risks prejudicing any proceedings, try "complainant". But of course, as a time-served copper with two decades in the force, you already knew that talking about an unproven report as though it was a conviction could prejudice proceedings, right?

Surrey Police are massively over reaching. The man pulling their strings is a menace.

Exactly my concern. These started life as domestic violence orders - the irony!

I wonder if the new guidance on non crime hate incidents will have any bearing on this?
