This sounds horrendous. How can the police do this.

And yes, it was exactly as we predicted in the previous thread.

Should a certain police officer pop up in this thread, please try not to get drawn into protracted, repetitive arguments with him. Please!

my impression is that the police don’t help people like me

My local council tweets pics of the 'safe space' if you're out late and feel threatened. Manned by (male) Met officers (plural). One thing that doesn't make me feel is safe.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 07/06/2023 11:21

You can say what you like Felix but no one in this thread or on this board has to engage with you.

Thelnebriati · 07/06/2023 11:21

I'm pleased to see this in Trending. It needs a wider audience.

The mind boggles that they think that's okay 😮

Just to save Felix's fingers:

We don't know what the accuser said x 7953

We don't know if the accuser is vulnerable x 84

The process is ongoing x 1000

CF will definitely be able to see all the evidence and the police would never do anything bad x 125

If the police do anything wrong them you can just simply pop a complaint in x 93

Yes I know I said the police are never wrong but there is already a process to complain because the police are often wrong/bad/rapists/murderers but I never see that x 84

If you pop a complaint in, then the police who are already harassing you would never ever up their harassment to make it worse, I've never seen that x 638

I never ever spend my life on Mumsnet telling women they are wrong and I never see women being treated badly and I am very attuned to what women want x 776

You women who see and experience things are just seeing and experiencing it wrong x 938

Superb, loving the x numbers too.

All finished with the policesplainer now.

I'm not saying they do, but I can put my view point across. Its a forum

That's insane.

Here women who need a safe space from men, staffed with men. Men from a very troubled force too.
You could not make this up.

I think I live in the upside down now.

Exactly. We are not banning a person's speech we just don't have to engage.

And we are not going to haul someone through court in erroneous charges to shut them up

Caroline hasn't been charged with anything

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 07/06/2023 11:28

I am genuinely stunned at this behaviour by Surrey Police. A total abuse of power. Shameful.

And I'm pretty certain that a comment pointing out that women have every reason NOT to feel safe with male Met police late at night would be met with 'well it's a few bad apples, we're committed to changing the culture, blah blah.' Rather like the way the Stop VAWAG campaign in my borough is led by, you guessed it, a male councillor. No answer to why any women weren't considered for the job.

Funny that.

It’s almost like the process is the punishment and the actual outcome doesn’t matter.

BlowDryRat · 07/06/2023 10:05

Bloody hell. That poor woman! My ex is a rapist and an abuser with a criminal record. I had an NMO out against him harassing me but let it drop because the police brushed me off every time I reported a breach.

All this for "misgendering" bollocks, when actual women are really dying on the police's watch? Fuck off.

I'm sorry this happened to you. It is one reason why i don't trust the police at all. Not one of them. Or the criminal justice system (in the UK).

When we know for sure that rapists get off all the time, how many women are murdered weekly, and that any positive policing in respect of women is hugely dependent on age/race/class (any and all of them separately and in combination) this action is... i would say unbelievable but we know how plod are.
(pls don't reply to the MN duty plod - it's tedious hearing the same stupid "justifications" thread after thread after thread)

GCalltheway · 07/06/2023 11:31

It might be an idea to contact the MP in
Surrey area if you live there - certainly my MP has been very helpful - and ask them to personally get involved. More support might be forthcoming. If this is a miscarriage of justice or another witch hunt then CF could surely do with some representation. Email PM’s office and start to really fight back.

🐿🐿🐿🐿 as we say on the Brexit threads.
Otherwise just clogs up the more informed postings.

No - I'm not part of Surrey police

I'm just waiting for a download on this computer to complete and perusing the boards on MN

MrsOvertonsWindow · 07/06/2023 11:33

These draconian measures are quite rightly used to protect society from adults who sexually abuse children & stalk and threaten mainly women. The idea that a police force has decided they're proportionate to use against a woman for alleged "misgendering" / saying hurtful words online seems to be an abuse of process?

This thread is a very useful reminder of how police forces can "overreach" to put it mildly when they get inappropriately involved with activists involved with sexual politics. It's well worth having a listen to Harry Miller's Triggernometry interview - and to hear from someone (for a change) with a clear grasp of the law, police procedure and abuse of power:

It’s important I imagine that the forum remains a welcoming space to newcomers as many might be put off by the inside comments and club atmosphere.

Felix125 · 07/06/2023 11:37

MrsOvertonsWindow

We don't know what the allegation is - so we can't just assume its 'hurty words'

These measures are there to prevent further offences and protect vulnerable people not just people who sexually abuse children & stalk and threaten mainly women.

The court will decide if there is a necessity for this order to be imposed - not the police.

Not replying to you isn't "banning your freedom of speech". You aren't stopped from posting, it just means that other people are ignoring you.

Instead of misusing the term "victim", which risks prejudicing any proceedings, try "complainant". But of course, as a time-served copper with two decades in the force, you already knew that talking about an unproven report as though it was a conviction could prejudice proceedings, right?

happydappy2 · 07/06/2023 11:37

Surrey Police are massively over reaching. The man pulling their strings is a menace.

Exactly my concern. These started life as domestic violence orders - the irony!

I wonder if the new guidance on non crime hate incidents will have any bearing on this?
