Sixty million views last I checked, and it’s going to be free all weekend.

Whatever your views on Matt Walsh - he is certainly effective at starting a conversation 😉

68.5 million just on the Daily Wire thread alone - that excludes all the retweet views from hundreds of Twitter users! That is one big reach!

I thought it was really good.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 03/06/2023 00:39

Just watched it. My view - it is an excellent, well made film, you don't need to be a Matt Walsh fan to appreciate it. It goes without saying that he is coming from a different angle and he is not a feminist, but I don't think there is much to offend the average person in the film.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 03/06/2023 00:39

He's getting the message out to a wide audience that feminism doesn't reach.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 03/06/2023 00:41

Marci Bowers’ description of transableism as a mental health condition and “kooky” contrasted against their own glaring blind spot was worth the price of admission.

Yes, my DP particularly picked up on that bit.

IcakethereforeIam · 03/06/2023 01:50

Just finished it. Perhaps, because Terf Island and MN coven, it seemed a little dated. So many slappable people. Bowers and the transableism (Bower's poker face slipped a little), the Planned parenthood woman, the college guy with allergy to truth, the senator/congressman, the Dr Phil pillocks, the fat guy with nothing interesting to say. I'm astonished they agreed to be on.

I liked the crack about the cardigan!

I have sympathy for some of the less high profile tras. The wolf guy was just sad.

It's great that it's getting so widely watched. Strength to all the people on the other side, Scott, Canadian Dad, etc.

DemiColon · 03/06/2023 02:19

I think that's maybe true. I'm trying to imagine the average Canadian watching it, most of it would be totally new to them.

littlbrowndog · 03/06/2023 07:11

I saw it. Thought it was good. Some of these people who think it’s fine to give kids untested drugs and surgeries are very scary

that poor Canadian dad. Misgendering his 13 year old daughter and now out on bail
and Scott saying he thinks it will shorten his life all the surgeries he has had

IcakethereforeIam · 03/06/2023 07:36

It's been a while and Canadian Dad may have had his case heard. I'm wondering if he's the same person as Billboard Chris?

Matt's truthtelling session to the Loudoun school board. I'd have been interested in knowing how that went down with them. It shows how patient he was being with the other clowns he was talking with.

PaleBlueMoonlight · 03/06/2023 08:06

The film seems to be about two things, (1) about the critical importance of having meaningful language that society can use to discern truth and describe reality, and (2) the harm being caused (especially to children) because of the failure with respect to (1).

activelytrying · 03/06/2023 08:54

I enjoyed it, particularly the history about Kinsey and Money. The first part was jokey/him clearly 'doing a Louis Theroux' but it then took a deeper dive into some of the issues.

The alarming part for me was people's inability to robustly defend their argument. They would just say 'a woman is whatever a woman says she is' and when pressed to explain that, ended the interview or got angry.

Surely if you've built a career on a particular worldview, you should be able to defend the basic terms of your point of view without belittling the person who thinks differently?

usernother · 03/06/2023 09:04

I watched it and enjoyed it. Interesting.

Clymene · 03/06/2023 09:08

This is the same Matt Walsh documentary from last year isn't it? He talks to Marci Bowers and some Maasai people. Or is this a new one?

IcakethereforeIam · 03/06/2023 09:21

@Clymene yes, it is.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 03/06/2023 09:24

It matches my experience of trying to talk to those kind of people about their beliefs and why I should be convinced that male people can be women.

Clymene · 03/06/2023 09:35

IcakethereforeIam · 03/06/2023 09:21

@Clymene yes, it is.

Thanks. I was a bit confused for a mo!

IcakethereforeIam · 03/06/2023 09:35

One bit that confused me was purple hat guy. He seemed to be agreeing with Matt, a gay man wouldn't know...., but was he trans? Was he actually saying a gay man wouldn't know but I would because I am a woman? Otherwise Matt asking him about cats seemed needlessly cruel.

DirtyDuchess · 03/06/2023 09:56

It does seem outdated to those of us in the thick of it but it's a pretty powerful documentary and I'm over the moon that it's getting so widely watched.

The Kinsey/Money bits will certainly make the uninitiated gasp!

Yes, I think so.

FannyCann · 03/06/2023 10:19

Marci Bowers was described as a "gynaecologist" as well as the list of other surgical specialisms. Would that be an actual gynaecologist managing real woman health issues? Or a gynaecologist who manages the specific requirements of those new surgically created "vaginas" which, whatever she said about the looking like and functioning just like the real thing, definitely do not function like the real thing.
Personally I'd be choosing a gynaecologist who specialises in actual female health but hey ho, when no one is allowed to say what a woman is it must be hard to find an old fashioned gynaecologist.

booksandbrooks · 03/06/2023 10:23

Well some of that was totally horrific but I did enjoy that right up until the final moment the jar needing opening infuriated me.

The tribe bit was too much of a celebration for rigid sexed roles for me too.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 03/06/2023 10:25

Mrs Walsh needs to try levering a spoon under the rim of the jar to break the vacuum. I hope Matt has other redeeming qualities when she masters that skill.
