Can a woman have a penis? No.
Just like that.
I didn't need to call a friend

Also if the worst person in the world agreed with me on this it wouldn't change the facts. Facts don't get truer if more "good" people think it is so.

MavisMcMinty · 04/06/2023 13:15

I'm saying that the gender critical movement should avoid signal boosting Matt Walsh because you're advancing all of his causes not just one of them.

Ah, right so.

“DISCLAIMER: I think [whoever I happen to be linking] is a terrible right-winger and I agree with them on nothing else at all, honest.”

That kind of thing?

The fact it’s my own political team taking gender ideology to its extreme is really embarrassing. But I remain left-wing despite the current cult indoctrination.

PurpleBugz · 04/06/2023 13:16

Looks like a macro version of the micro.

Trans ideology often puts a wedge between kids and their families. It others then and makes them the enemy or transphobic if they question the child's new gender identity.

It feels like every time someone comes out with a faintly gender critical view publicly the same thing happens. 'Some people' try to drive a wedge between different groupings of GC people. Make them the enemy because they believe xyz too.

I didn't like the pink/blue and the depiction of his smiling wife at home making the food needing the strong man to open the jar for her that we saw in what is a woman. But that doesn't mean I have to reject the whole of it. I also believe in binary sex.

As someone said upthread re flat earth believers.

ohdelay · 04/06/2023 13:16

See also "I do believe in fairies" not actually bringing more fairies into existence. Also "I don't believe in fairies" hasn't just killed the one I created in the previous sentence.

"What is a woman" is not a yes or no question.

Ultimately if I needed to find a source to argue on my behalf that the Earth is round, I wouldn't struggle to find someone that is (1) an actual subject matter expert and (2) not an awful person.

I'm not disagreeing with Matt Walsh because he's an awful person. I'm saying that the gender critical movement should avoid signal boosting Matt Walsh because you're advancing all of his causes not just one of them.

Are you part of the gender critical movement? If not, what makes you think that anyone who is would care about your opinions?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 04/06/2023 13:19

Quite. Scepticism is generally a good thing, especially of people you agree with as cognitive and conformation bias are well known phenomenons. I try to live by that as much as possible.

OldCrone · 04/06/2023 13:19

TraumatisedGooner · 04/06/2023 12:47

Of course you're not going to agree with everything anyone says. But you and the gender critical movement should be conscious of whose support you are garnering. Matt Walsh is not a single issue bigot. Signal boosting this man and his alt right network is not only going to affect trans people. "First they came for the trans people, and I didn't care because I don't like trans people". It's obvious what comes next and/or simultaneously: homophobia, misogyny, and a reversion to 'traditional' Christian values. Do not believe that the gender critical movement is going to be able to apply the brakes at the right time. The right time to distance yourselves from Walsh is right now.

Why do you care? If you think we're discrediting ourselves by agreeing with Matt Walsh (who I'd never heard of before this film), why does that matter to you?

Why would you care when you disagree with all our concerns about child safeguarding, fairness in sport etc? Are you afraid that we might be stronger if we fight alongside the likes of Matt Walsh?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 04/06/2023 13:20

What is a woman" is not a yes or no question.

Well no, of course it isn't. It's a category definition. Or a load of turgid cod philosophy sophistry wank, if you are that way inclined.

IHateFlies · 04/06/2023 13:22

Be careful about suggesting that people need to pick sides.

Most people aren't extreme left or right but happily plodding along the middle with some swaying either way. Don't force them into firming a position because it probably won't be with the reality denying side.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 04/06/2023 13:23

Why should I distance myself from Matt Walsh? I vehemently disagree with him on some things and vehemently agree with him on others. Plus, he’s funny. I don’t care what people think about how that’s seen as “aligning”.

This. I have followed him for years, despite disagreeing with him on many things and thinking he is a sexist dick who doesn't give credit to women. But he is funny, and engaging, and he has an uncanny knack of condensing the issues perfectly when speaking about them. He's great at interviews.

maltravers · 04/06/2023 13:29

Maybe following Traumatised Gooner’s logic, it is instead time for the Left and LGB generally, to dissociate itself from the TRA movement.

I care because I believe you're advancing the causes of someone that is transphobic, homophobic, misogynistic, and racist.

HandBall · 04/06/2023 13:38

This is what gets me. She knows she exists, but she is so tied to her cult she will say anything. Same with Starmer, 60yr old man, refusing to say that women can't have penises. Every politician over 40 who says this is an outright liar. I don't believe they believe this, they are standing there screaming 2+2=5 like cultists because they have to.
Same with any medical professional who plays along. There have been no medical miracles or new findings on this and they have been unable to make functional neo genitalia on mice , but happily having a go on humans. When did "do no harm become", let's affirm you with some mutilation.

Starmer is the equivalent of the 60 year old man with a medallion and open shirt at a nightclub with those in their early 20s, trying to be down with the kids and failing miserably as he chants TWAW to look cool.

I hear from others how much they hated having an OAP parent as a teen like him.

Oh great, I see you’re in lecturing mood

that means you’ll be nice and warmed up to describe the characteristics of the gender identity that trans women and cis women share

after all, you’re happy to berate women on the internet who say they don’t share a gender identity with trans women so this will be easy for you

OldCrone · 04/06/2023 13:41

TraumatisedGooner · 04/06/2023 13:36

I care because I believe you're advancing the causes of someone that is transphobic, homophobic, misogynistic, and racist.

But why us in particular? Lots of people are endorsing this film. Many of them may actually be transphobic, homophobic, misogynistic and racist. Why don't you go and scold them instead? Why us?

And are you really unaware of how homophobic, misogynistic and racist the trans movement is?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 04/06/2023 13:42

Who should we support, @TraumatisedGooner? I'm sure you have some ideas.

Starmer is Peter Pan leading lost boys, Wendy and Michael who lost his marbles singing "follow the leader" and "TWAW" "I do believe in... I do, I do" deluded trans age adults who never grew up.

Perhaps I think I have a better chance of convincing you than the alt right.

Yes yes

gender identity

just a few words, easy peasy

unless you are unable to describe gender identity for some reason?

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 04/06/2023 14:02

If you want to convince me of something, why not start by demonstrating that you have a firm understanding of what you’re advocating for?

But in this case, the Matt Walsh documentary is the most successful made on this subject in the United States and probably the world.

How sensible is it, that GC feminists should just ignore it, because they don't want to help the Daily Wire?

Your argument seems very hypothetical. Maybe the United States will be taken in a more conservative direction. And maybe this wouldn't have happened, if only a few GC feminists hadn't linked to a Matt Walsh documentary, or KJK hadn't appeared on Tucker Carlson. It doesn't seem especially likely does it?

I don't see why people can't say, "the benefits of slight agreement or slight cooperation with Christian conservatives on one issue, outweighs the hypothetical risks".

Matt Walsh has just said the exponential viewing of his film is a direct result of engineers at Twitter trying to stop people watching it.

He just said it!!

How can you still not get this phenomenon?

It's unbelievable.

That’s why I watched it anyway.

I think the issue people are bringing up about Matt Walsh is due to people not getting the interaction between American politics and society, people are generally Republican or democrat and often subscribe wholesale to the appropriate ideology. There’s often little room to pick and choose between the concepts championed by the competing ideologies.

On this issue Matt Walsh has important points, it’s important to divorce the information from the Man here.
