Innocent Drinks proudly sharing content today from the "legends" at er, Mermaids

Purveyors of overpriced fruit pulp, Innocent, have been tweeting today some advice for being more inclusive. Seems like the internet is broken at Innocent HQ as no-one seems to have spotted why Mermaids have been in the news just this weekend (never mind over the last few months, and the ongoing investigation by the Charity Commission). Don't brand managers ever check if a partner might be a bit detrimental to their own reputation?

Fill your gender identity bingo cards with tweets about deadnaming, misgendering and mixed-sex toilets. Why a drinks brand feels the need to shout this at Twitter users is beyond me.

It's only been up for an hour or so and you can imagine how it's going down on Twitter!

You should boycott them too, Merlin - B&Q, but where's the T?!

😂

"teach us what it's OK to say"????
That's creepy.

Isn't it? Utterly bizarre...

55balloons · 02/06/2023 10:49

@TheBiologyStupid 🤣 I'm sure some marketing genius will manage to get the T in there somewhere down the line!

Felt very powerful doing my online shop this morning & removing Innocent smoothies from my "usual" items.. I love a boycott!
My sister says the Tesco smoothies are practically the same as the Innocent ones for a fraction of the price.

Christianity claimed to be representing God's desire for the world.

What can the LGBT groups appeal to exactly? They can appeal to "inclusivity" and "diversity" I guess, but they can hardly say they have an infallible knowledge of where inclusivity is a good or bad idea.

It's true because all the other left-wing organisations think the same way?

That is why I mentioned the oh so good people part. These people believe in the authority of certain groups and organisations in determining what is best for "marginalised groups". By following what is dictated you are part of championing the rights of these marginalised people. You get to feel good about yourself. You get to call other people nasty names if they don't follow the authority. They can hardly say that? But they do. And it works, because people blindly follow it.

My Waitrose has two fridges with the weekly offers. This week the drinks were Innocent and some other brand. Some other brand was sold out, all the Innocent bottles still there. Now that could just be because it's overpriced sugary crap, but who knows.

IcakethereforeIam · 03/06/2023 13:38

Went to the supermarket earlier bought supermarket own brand smoothie for the sprog. I kinda forgot to look and I didn't go in clothes or homewear but nothing obviously Pride related caught my eye.

Hopefully the boycott is kicking in!
My 75 year old mother always has a store of innocent in her fridge as she knows the grandchildren love them but she is now boycotting Innocent as she "cannot support & fund tomfoolery" 😍
@IcakethereforeIam the supermarket ones are the exact same as Innocent & much cheaper. Good on you, hit Innocent where it hurts.. Their pockets.

Enjoy! In the words of Arthur, it's brilliant.

Or, in the actual words of Arthur, myself would like to take this opportunity to say I hope that yourself finds this as entertaining as myself did Grin

Just mind out for the bassoonists, they can be a bit jumpy.

Grin Grin Grin

Love love love Cabin Pressure. Also John Finnemore's Souvenir Programme. There's a special edition of that on Sounds at the moment. The previous series (lockdown) was one of the best things I've ever heard on Radio 4. Needs a bit of time to get into it, but once you do ...

Plus marks for using 'tomfoolery.'

@MrsDanversGlidesAgain & @MissLucyEyelesbarrow Queen of the Terfs🤣🤣 My mum has definitely peaked in recent weeks!

Still not shifting, it appears. Now it might be that innocent drinks are flying off the shelves and staff are re-stocking, but I doubt it.

55balloons · 06/06/2023 13:26

Hope everyone is buying the supermarket ones or making their own. I'm delighted to finally have a proper excuse to boycott Innocent smoothies.. My dc weren't accepting vastly overpriced & full of sugar as a valid enough reason.. But with their Nana also boycotting they'll have to live with it😜 they love the supermarket ones anyway, the only difference is the packaging.

Pmsl that they deleted the tweet after an hour or two. So much for standing by their "values"! I'd say the "legends" at Mermaids were rightly pissed off they retracted their tweet so quickly!

bellac11 · 07/06/2023 08:29

Gender isnt a protected characteristic. Have they had talks about sex as a protected characteristic?

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 07/06/2023 08:44

That last para STILL isn't admitting fault - it's the comments that are the problem not the values.

55balloons · 07/06/2023 08:48

@MrsDanversGlidesAgain if they really truely believed in their tweet, they would have turned off the comments & let the tweet up..
Very easy to switch off commenting. They still haven't replied to my email & their phone line is "busy"!
They were worried about the backlash on their bottom line!

Alltheprettyseahorses · 07/06/2023 08:48

Does the company not understand it is there to align with the values of normal, decent people and not to try to impose its own bigotry on them? It should stick to selling yucky drinks rather than getting ideas above its station and scolding everyone.

As I said above they could easily have turned off the commenting & let the tweet up.. It's been screenshot & reshared all over the Internet anyway.. They obviously have no values if they didn't defend their tweet!
Innocent smoothies, Nike, Bud lite, NZ wine, my boycott list is growing..
Tesco smoothies & any supervalu brand taste very similar to Innocent & are a fraction of the price so very easy to substitute.

I can see the thinking here. 'Everyone here is wrong but us. Our values are fine, it's your response to them that's the problem.'

JulieHoney · 07/06/2023 09:38

To my fellow frequent flyers of MJN Air -

Should you have missed it at the time, during lockdown Arthur did weekly YouTube videos on his good friend John Finnemore’s channel. It was called Cabin Fever and had much silliness and puzzles and fun stuff.

TeaAndStrumpets · 07/06/2023 09:52

Thanks to the suggestions on here I have just bought the box set of Cabin Pressure CDs for DH's birthday.

Innocent Smoothies, however, will never get my money.
