Woman's swimsuit modelled by a man.

twitter.com/sophielouisecc/status/1658827159803240452?s=61&t=_FVhOkJfaHrQrqGFLoyivg

What's the point? So we can see there's enough room for our meat and 2 veg?

Is that the French runner who insists on competing in womens races? Looks very similar.

it’s a hideous swimsuit IMHO, better left to chaps, really. ( And what happens when a chap turns up at his local pool in a chicks’ swimie? Cos all the gruesome bits would not be, well, contained.

Boomboom22 · 17/05/2023 23:25

I'm torn. Wear what you want. Look androgynous. Just don't claim to be a woman. I really must start buying more mens clothes. They fit better as I'm tall, are better made and have deeper pockets to stop me smashing my phone. Clothes should be gender free as it were, I don't believe in stereotypes.
Plus I can't boycott Adidas my 11yr old only wants it.

ahagwearsapointybonnet · 17/05/2023 23:25

Oh FGS. I was just after some new trainers too and had nearly decided on one of theirs, will have to think again now.

ahagwearsapointybonnet · 17/05/2023 23:29

I wouldn't care if they made a men's swimsuit with straps and put it in the men's section (with a bloke modelling it obvs), nothing wrong with innovation. But this is being sold as a women's suit, in the women's section, but modelled/advertised by a bloke. Women do NOT need to be able to hide a sausage in there... and if it fits him, it's pretty unlikely to fit us.

TastesLikeStrawberriesOnASummerEvening · 17/05/2023 23:31

Ugh, I love my gazelles too.
Won't be buying anymore.
@Boomboom22 yes, wear what you want, but that swimsuit isn't going to fit a woman if a man can wear it is it?
I have a much flatter crotch for one, since I don't have a penis or scrotum.
No woman has them.

Moopsi · 17/05/2023 23:35

I wouldn't have a problem with this if they put it in the men's section. But advertising and selling a woman's swimsuit using a man is just buying into double think.

Where is the woman with her breasts out advertising men's swimming trunks?

TastesLikeStrawberriesOnASummerEvening · 17/05/2023 23:56

If it was that style, but made for men, then fine, but it isn't.
Anything close fitting, underwear, swimwear is never going to fit both sexes.
Women can obviously wear men's underwear, or swimming trunks, but we never see women modelling it do we?
I can't think why....

BodegaSushi · 18/05/2023 01:25

It's part of the Pride collection. There's also a woman wearing one as well.

Sounds good. Hopefully they've got the same two photos in the men's section? Otherwise they are being exclusionary. If they are supporting Pride, it's not for Adidas to decide if some who calls themselves a man or a woman wants to wear a particular piece of clothing.

They clearly won't have thought of that. But as it's the Pride costume, I actually think it makes sense to see it modelled by a man and a woman. Clothing should be for anyone, regardless of their sex. However, I would be more impressed with them if they did also put it in the men's section. There's no reason why they shouldn't.

FrancescaContini · 18/05/2023 06:55

Oh God, is it that rainbow time of the year again?

Adidas - another one to boycott.

niandraladesand · 18/05/2023 06:55

Where does it say that it's for women?

It is.

So all good

SusannaQ · 18/05/2023 07:09

Have to admit I don't mind this, I'm very much, wear what you want , just don’t call yourself a woman. it's not like Dylan and the sports bra.
I'm tall with a ridiculously long torso and I'm wondering if this might actually fit me if it fits him. I also wear quite a lot of mens clothes, I wouldn't want ridiculing for it.

elgreco · 18/05/2023 07:20

It's in the Pride section. Both sexes, but 1 photo of a woman, all the others are a man in men's and women's
clothes. Unbalanced. Almost as though Pride was all about the men!!!!

DobbysTeaCosy · 18/05/2023 07:21

Realistically if a man wore a women's costume to a pool his meat and two veg would be flopping out all over the place.
I don't agree with normalising flashing.

I also don't agree with making all clothes unisex. It's not like they will design things with extra room for our hips and breasts, you know they would go default male and we'd be stuck with clothes that don't fit.

Make a male.costumes with straps, and appropriate coverage. Don't raid the women's section.

nilsmousehammer · 18/05/2023 07:26

The point of a model photo is for the potential buyers to think 'oh I'd like to look like that'.

Possibly it works on other women, but aspiring to look male in a swimming costume isn't something likely to happen for me.

DobbysTeaCosy · 18/05/2023 07:38

Place in oppression Olympics, access to naked women and women's prizes.
'oh I'd like to look like that'
Sums it up quite well, actually.

Greenfairydust · 18/05/2023 07:48

I think this could be easily solved: why have a men section and a woman section only?

They could simply add a ''gender fluid'' or ''all gender'' or ''unisex'' section, or whatever term would describe best these products, for garments that are targeted at body shapes and genders.

This person is very obviously not a woman so they should not use them to advertise products that are targeted specifically at women, but there is no issue with them modelling something that is aimed at any buyer.

I am starting to think these companies just do this on purpose to create controversy and get free advertising as people share & discuss the content...

Some women already wear stuff that is traditional sold in the men's section (tee-shirts, shirts, jackets) of shops and online shops. I have certainly bought ''men's'' shirts and tee shirts in charity shops so I don't see any issues with the principle.

ZenNudist · 18/05/2023 07:57

It's very self defeating. I guess it's not being sold to people with any boobs to speak of so not an issue.

Lycra expands so can fit in his schlong but it's not going to provide any support up top.

I swim a lot but addidas aren't on my radar. I like something with bit of built in support, not a cup for exercise swimming. I wouldn't buy a cossie modelled by a man for this reason.

Beowulfa · 18/05/2023 08:00

"Pride Collection"- capitalism just loves all the identity labelling, doesn't it.

If men wish to wear a spectacularly ugly and ill-fitting swimsuit that emphasises how much they are not women, they can go ahead.

I know. I'm a lesbian and avoid anything rainbow like the plague.

SquidwardBound · 18/05/2023 08:12

I don’t really care if adidas want to use male models to try to sell swimsuits. I don’t care if men decide they’d rather wear swimsuits in the pool either. It really is just clothes. And it would be much, much better if we moved towards ‘men can wear what they like’ rather than insisting that clothes are inherently sexed.

It sounds like this swimsuit is listed in the men’s section as well as the women’s
section on the website. So it’s just a piece of clothing they’re marketing at everyone.

The difference with the Nike/Dylan mulvaney thing was not that it was ‘women’s clothing’. It was that mulvaney’s entire thing is a horrible parody of woman (or ‘girl’ as mulvaney insists) and it was clearly only aimed at ‘women’.

But if adidas want to try to sell swimsuits to men… 🤷🏻‍♀️

Well yes. The commercialisation of ‘pride’
is also depressing.

It's not targeted specifically at women. Ive found the item in the women's section, the mens section and the swimwear section.
