Just posting this as on a thread elsewhere I made some disparaging remarks that the debate will be shuffled off to some small committee room.

But they must think that more than a few MPs are wanting to take part as I have just seen it will be in Westminster Hall.

Will be interesting to see which MPs are willing to state views about the reality of biological sex in public!

Event will be broadcast live.

When asked directly face to face by someone they have to encounter day to day, share a workplace with, women have agreed with Robin.

On an anonymous forum where nobody is beholden to Robin, women are able to be more honest.

Women are not happy to share with males. We're scared. Of getting sacked, or attacked, or both.

I'm a bolshy sod I would have no problem saying 'No' to Robin's face if asked but I fully understand why others who have much to lose would demur, shame Robin can't see that being as Robin is, purportedly, intelligent.

When on this board Robin has always refused to name which single sex spaces should be able to exclude male people who identify as women. After listening to this programme I would hazard a guess that Robin believes that transwomen's need for validation that they are real women overrides the needs of us mere females.

When Owen Jones was arguing with the wonderful Esther K about men using female rape shelters.

He said 'twaw...blah, blah. Vulnerable minority, blah'

Naturally, she asked him 'what about how the women feel?'

I saw a Tweet which crystallised Owen's whole attitude, and the same is true of Robin.

I emailed my MP yesterday and she emailed me back this morning to say she would try to get to the debate, but she totally agreed with me that biological sex is the correct interpretation in the Act and what she would be supporting. I have never voted for her party in my life. I have also emailed Keir Starmer and Ed Davey, but with no response at all.

So who can I vote with a clear conscience in future? Are women’s rights the hill we all have to die on? Certainly feels like it right now!

IwantToRetire · 12/06/2023 16:19

Have just seen the Tribual Tweets will be live tweeting the debate. Which is good as I am going to have to dip in and out. (though my be a blessing as I am sure the outcome will be no change) https://twitter.com/tribunaltweets/status/1668208778892787713

Does anyone know is there is an agreed twitter hash tag. For anyone with twitter experience I dont know how these things are agreed!

But before it get going just want to say (and I know I am repeating myself) for me the outrage is that these is a legal wording (thanks to the GRA) that says most of the time biological women aren't really uniquely female, but grudgingly allows for that biological reality by being ever so generous and allowing us a few "exemptions".

Such a total disrespect for women's lived experience and a real indication of how women are valued in society (thanks to Labour policy wonks who helped word this)

It seems like Sex Matters are using the tag https://twitter.com/hashtag/MakeTheEqualityActClear

But I dont suppose this will show the no change arguements

Ramblingnamechanger · 12/06/2023 16:34

chilling19 · 12/06/2023 16:34

Already with the most marginalised and scared.

IwantToRetire · 12/06/2023 16:35

Its means to be on Parliament TV if not https://www.parliamentlive.tv/Event/Index/60ce7953-6b23-4a2b-8bb0-0d59b94b380a

Pathetic turn out.

Hi all another thread going which has a bit more traffic Will you be watching the debate tomorrow? www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/4825580-will-you-be-watching-the-debate-tomorrow

Appalonia · 12/06/2023 16:41

Wot? Where is everyone going??

timetorefresh · 12/06/2023 16:41

ArabeIIaScott · 12/06/2023 14:01

The other person being interviewed said they are either 'somatically' or 'semantically' female, can anyone clarify which they are claiming?

Somatic cells are body cells.

Ramblingnamechanger · 12/06/2023 16:42

Off to vote

Ramblingnamechanger · 12/06/2023 16:43

I think semantically was what was said/ meant, but who knows?

Ramblingnamechanger · 12/06/2023 16:44

Or cares?

IwantToRetire · 12/06/2023 16:47

re the other thread, I was already pointed out yesterday that this thread existed so not sure why anyone continued to post on the newer one.

But I supposes mumsnet like everywhere else is about everyones own little bubble

RMW saying no women in the exercise class RMW wanted to attend had a problem with that.

Or no women who had a problem with that were then able to attend the exercise class. Not that RMW cares.

IwantToRetire · 12/06/2023 16:49

I wonder how many more votes are scheduled for today. If this is an example (2 votes which all take time to count etc.) there wont be much discussion.

And if the TRA lobby are going to keep interrupting to say it is threatening to even discuss this.

Feeling that this is all going to turn out to be a damp squib.

Iwanttoretire - I think it is difficult to see existing threads sometimes - not sure why this is. I use the app and don't always see all the current threads, so I think the person that set up the other one probably had the same experience. I wish Mumsnet would allow pinned threads - that could help.

IwantToRetire · 12/06/2023 16:51

counting the empty seats seems like about 50 MPs have attened.

Wonder what the votes are in the HoC?

OP posts:
ickky · 12/06/2023 16:52

The vote in the hoc is about retained EU law.
