Just posting this as on a thread elsewhere I made some disparaging remarks that the debate will be shuffled off to some small committee room.

But they must think that more than a few MPs are wanting to take part as I have just seen it will be in Westminster Hall.

Will be interesting to see which MPs are willing to state views about the reality of biological sex in public!

Event will be broadcast live.

(*) Not sure what this means - is she the Chair?

Hello I'm from the other thread. Re possible outcomes:

If the debate finishes before its scheduled end time, the Chair puts the question and asks MPs to decide on the motion. The motion is almost always agreed. There can’t be a vote in Westminster Hall, so if MPs shout “No” when the Chair puts the question, the Chair reports the fact to the House and the question is undecided. It’s possible for the question subsequently to be put to the House for decision without further debate (in the past the Backbench Business Committee has found time for this), but it doesn’t automatically follow that this will happen.

What is the question that will be put in this case?

Boiledbeetle · 12/06/2023 17:15

is that the trans MP guy behind him?

ArabeIIaScott · 12/06/2023 17:15

thanks, that's very helpful. Sorry to be dim, but what does it mean to be 'put to the House'?

I think it means put to the House of Commons....

I'm assuming the Boris clone is a Tory? God I HATE agreeing with them, but most of Labour are utterly bonkers on this!

That's what I was wondering - it seems like it'll just be a debate for debates sake, as 2 opposing petitions, maybe the question will be should we look at updating the Equality Act?

ArabeIIaScott · 12/06/2023 17:17

Should women be 'forced or shamed' to submit to men in women's spaces - no idea who this is but he's good so far!
