Just posting this as on a thread elsewhere I made some disparaging remarks that the debate will be shuffled off to some small committee room.

But they must think that more than a few MPs are wanting to take part as I have just seen it will be in Westminster Hall.

Will be interesting to see which MPs are willing to state views about the reality of biological sex in public!

Event will be broadcast live.

Surely some of the big hitters on this list must support biological reality?
They need to resign from the Humanists.

BBC Politics Live: RMW stating that they have never had a problem using women's toilets = ergo there isn't a problem, despite Maya clearly saying there is and a evidenced by the debate this afternoon at Westminster Hall on this very subject.

Sigh.

I can say quite categorically that if I am confronted with a male in a women's space, I will not be challenging them. I will be exiting and making myself safe as quickly and quietly as possible.

I base this on prior experience, when I was so young I didn't even know what a cross dresser was, nor why he was shaking and groaning at the sink. I just knew instinctively I needed to try and leave without upsetting him.

(I'm absolutely not implying that all transwomen wish to access women's spaces for sexual gratification like this man was, by the way.)

Just making the point that most women have a very well developed sense of self preservation, and when in a confined space with a male stranger who is acting outwith social norms, we are highly unlikely to say anything at all. Far more likely to try to appease, be conciliatory, and get out and away.

SabrinaThwaite · 12/06/2023 13:48

And don't get me started on the Tory who just said if we change the definition to be biological sex then trans people won't go out and that's not acceptable.

Crispin Blunt.

I feel concerned that they will just fudge and say that no clarification is needed implying that the EA is clear as it is.

I am braced for fudge.

Trying not to pre emptively rage.

Moopsi · 12/06/2023 13:52

I wrote to my MP about this and got no reply. Disappointing.

ArabeIIaScott · 12/06/2023 14:01

The other person being interviewed said they are either 'somatically' or 'semantically' female, can anyone clarify which they are claiming?

ArabeIIaScott · 12/06/2023 14:05

'third space ghetto' - that's the response to women asking very reasonably and generously if a third space can be created for women to use.

No, women. Males need your bodies in those spaces to validate their feelings.

So we need to say ok to males without question

Its crazy

I heard “somatically female”, as in relating to the physical body as opposed to the mind.

Good that Maya pushed backed on that.

I know, and I now notice I've misgendered transwomen by calling them women in my post. Grin Sincere apologies, everyone.

Sex fudge is inevitable

SabrinaThwaite · 12/06/2023 14:22

Women could just create these third space ghettoes that the trans community couldn’t possibly use because reasons and then just use them exclusively for ourselves.

We could even come up with a name for them …

ArabeIIaScott · 12/06/2023 14:22

I bloody hate sex fudge.

Ooh, that's a great idea! I am VERY happy to be in the ghetto/gulag with all the other horrible nasty women who are wrongthinkers. Yes, please!

Is that something Gwyneth Paltrow makes to go along with the vagina scented candles?

Sex fudge sounds very 50 Shades of Grey.

whereaw · 12/06/2023 14:33

Place marking with interest!

ArabeIIaScott · 12/06/2023 14:36

I vote for 50 shades of Earl Grey, instead.

Redshoeblueshoe · 12/06/2023 14:39

I am under the weather so I'll just record the debate.

Redshoeblueshoe · 12/06/2023 14:43

Glad to see Maya mention that RMW doesn't have a GRC.

happydappy2 · 12/06/2023 14:51

When Maya mentioned Muslim women not being able to share a bathroom with males, did RMW actually shrug indifferently?

Yes. Just watched it back. 39.17.

Maya:

'Muslim women cannot use the toilet that is shared with men. Your desires are not the only desires that need to be accommodated in public life'

RMW: (shrug)
'I'm sorry to say, that's not the response I get from the many women I work with, that I use services with'.
