"Lesbians being anti-trans is a lesbophobic trope"

I think this helps give another viewpoint to the "gay people are anti-trans" trope that is often used by the LGB-Alliance and Julie Bindel etc.

Lesbians often have to put up with harmful stereotypes that may deter them from coming out, and in recent years the "lesbians are anti-trans" is another stereotype on top of the existing ones.

'Lesbians being anti-trans is a lesbophobic trope'

Amy Ashenden, Interim CEO of Just Like Us, is dispelling the harmful trope that lesbians are against the trans community.

Well, I'm sure they tried..

Not sure if this is already on there - Rose Montaya of recent 'breast-exposing at the White House' fame -

'To be cisgender and require another to be cisgender before allowing oneself to be attracted to someone is transphobic.'

'we're allowed to redefine ourselves, redefine our body parts, and redefine our sexualities as we choose and as whatever fits best'

'To be cisgender and require another to be cisgender before allowing oneself to be attracted to someone is transphobic.'

Dear God. Being desperate for a shag is one thing.

But to broadcast to the entire world that you can't get one unless you force people, is so counter-productive it's difficult to believe!

ArabeIIaScott · 15/06/2023 15:45

It's also a bizarre take on sexuality, missing the point that sex generally involves more than one person. Which means 'we're allowed to redefine our sexuality' - aye, fine, but you can't redefine it for or on behalf of OTHER PEOPLE.

BezMills · 15/06/2023 16:16

I don't think I have any gender preferences, but possibly I'd find someone who goes on about it a turn off. I definitely prefer a female body, never fancied a man. I mean obviously Brad Pitt, but yanno. Brad Pitt!

FlirtsWithRhinos · 15/06/2023 16:35

'we're allowed to redefine ourselves, redefine our body parts, and redefine our sexualities as we choose and as whatever fits best'

The bit they don't say out loud is that for "we" to be able to do this, "you"..

are not allowed to define yourselves
are not allowed to define your body parts
are not allowed to define your sexuality

because our ability to redefine ourselves, redefine our body parts, and redefine our sexualities as we choose and as whatever fits best depends upon you accepting and meeting definitions we have assigned to you

Totally depends what you mean by the words "lesbian" "anti-trans" "transphobic"

Lesbian - does the word mean "a person with a female body, exclusively attracted to other people with female bodies" or "a person with a feminine gender identity, attracted to other people with feminine gender identities regardless of body type"

"Anti-trans/transphobic" - does it mean "hating someone, denying their validity as a person, wanting to deny them basic human rights" or does it mean "not wanting to participate in someone else's fantasy, and not being attracted to a body type that isn't included in ones own understanding of one's own sexuality"

If you don't define your terms, any article like this is meaningless.

I think we are all well aware that a lesbian is a woman attracted to other women.

NOT a woman attracted to TW (because TW are MEN) or a TW attracted to women.

Definition of terms:

WOMAN - person with XX chromosomes, a vulva, producing large gametes ie Adult human Female. These people may or may not be able to conceive/ gestate/ bear a child. NB These people are fEMALE.

MAN - person with XY chromosomes, testicles and penis, producing small gametes ie Adult Human Male, These people may sire a child but cannot conceive/ gestate/ bear one. NB These people are MALE

TRANSWOMAN - person with XY chromosomes who wants to be validated as having XY chromosomes and who feigns stereotypical "femininity". These people may or may not have body dysmorphia/ dysphoria, and may or may not have had surgery or ingested hormones to further feign resemblance to preferred sex. A resemblance is the best they can do, because no mammal can change sex. At best they are unhappy with their sexed bodies; at worst they are opportunists seeking ways into spaces where women and/or children are vulnerable, and derive sexual stimulation by dressing as a woman/ receiving validation as a woman.. NB These people are MALE

TRANSMAN - see TW, but reverse the sexes. These people are FEMALE.

Hope this helps.

That's what it means to us .
Other people are using the same words to refer to different concepts.
It's no wonder communication is failing when words are appropriated to mean something completely different.

I disagree.

I recall Nancy Kelly calling lesbians who reject males as partners 'sexual racists.'

And "genital fascists"

Indeed - other people can "redefine" what the f*ck they like, but I'm a traditionalist, and have every right to remain this way.

And I will shg the people I want to shg, thank you very much, as long as they are happy to sh*g me, and so far they have always been of the opposite SEX to me,. For others, their choice is the same SEX, and they have every right to make that choice without being subjected to abuse.

The LGB Alliance and Julie Bundle do not say that lesbians are anti-trans. What nonsense.

This is a view put forward by TRAs who are cross that lesbians don't want lady cock.

Ketzele · 15/06/2023 17:52

I've been an out lesbian for 40 years and I'm very used to young people not wanting to associate with me. The only kind of lesbianism that is ever fashionable is kinky straight girls or porn.

So the idea that lesbians being lesbian is putting lesbians off being lesbian is quite funny to me.

I first met Julie B 40 years ago at a young lesbian conference (when she had long curly hair). I was being threatened by some other women, and she was very kind to me. I met the founders of LGBA many, many years ago, too. Solid women. I know who and what my community is and isn't.

Stop using lesbians. Stop telling us who we are. Stop assuming our job is to affirm those who claim our support.

I've already answered this. Because of laws of consent any adult can accept or decline sex with any other consenting adult.

I've already made it clear that this isn't what the article is about and I'm unaware of anyone saying that this (a cis-woman declining sex with a transwoman) is "transphobic". The only people who seem to be saying this are gender critical people, not transpeople from what I've seen. Unless you could link me some examples?

@MerlinsLostMarbles
Out of curiosity how many examples of Trans Women accusing lesbians of being phobic for not wanting to sleep with them will it take for you to believe us when we say that it's the Trans Women who literally started this....?

Here's a video that shows more than one example, but as others have said, Riley Dennis was the most famous alongside Milo-whatever-his-name-was.

It was Trans Women saying and doing shit like this that skyrocketed Blaire White (a Trans Woman) to fame because even she was saying that Trans activism was going too far.
Buck Angel has also spoken up about this.

How many examples until you believe us?
How many examples until you see, the label of transphobic isn't coming from us but from Trans Women, and in fact we're trying to defend lesbians from that label?
How many examples until you can see that us fighting for it not to be transphobic to have "genital preferences" is not homophobic and is in fact the exact opposite of that?

What is all of this nonsense - i have just had to wade through. (in an attempt not to live in an echo chamber) it just seems really obvious to me. Men are men , women are women. Gay and lesbians are same sex attracted.

Then there is all these other “others” psychiatric disorders i would say or just sexual kinks fine by me but nothing i want to know about.

to me it is obvious that certain Op’s are actually trans. I just don't buy that lesbians consider male bodies.

So to all my lesbian sisters out there (i am straight) don't bite such posts anymore. Post oh just fuck off - am happy to join an oh fuck off campaign

howdoesatoastermaketoast · 25/10/2023 23:09

@Karensalright You're absolutely right of course

the only way men can be lesbians is by redefining the word.

Some women made a reasonable point that a woman who is sexually attracted to women doesn't lose the right to call herself a lesbian because she slept with a tw. But it is generally unhelpful to lesbians to redefine the word they need to explain their sexual orientation and boundaries.
