Runner Glenique Frank has just appeared on the BBC footage, clearly male, and has registered as a woman. Sure, he isn't getting a medal any time soon but how is this OK? And don't even get me started about the stupidity of a non binary category - sure fire way for a mediocre male to get a medal! Utterly pathetic.

What’s to stop me identifying as a 70 year old to gain a ranking advantage? Surely if biological sex is irrelevant then why not biological age?

So fed up with this sexist nonsense in sport.

YouJustDoYou · 23/04/2023 16:02

It's so fucking misogynistic.

Whoknewwhat · 23/04/2023 16:02

Women who are running against men but who don’t know this because that man has a female name and is running in her category will be wondering why they can’t get the same speeds which is not going to do anything for women’s motivation or training plans

it’s not just that thought. It’s that the clubs and associations as bodies who run your sport have told you, as a woman, that they don’t take you or your running or your training or your racing seriously, and, furthermore, they are demanding you don’t take it seriously yourself. And that’s a fucking awful thing to have revealed. It’s really demeaning.

Why bother to have men's and women's categories?

🤷‍♀️

Hagosaurus · 23/04/2023 16:08

As an aside, I believe the Boston (?) marathon did indeed introduce a non-binary class - and the non binary runners said they wanted 2 categories: an AFAB and an AMAB. Almost like sex mattered 😂
oh yes, and they wanted the same prize money for the winner of each of those categories as the elite runners get 🙄

Hagosaurus · 23/04/2023 16:13

They used the female qualifying times - which would presumably have helped the (overwhelmingly) male non-binaries get a place

flaffydaffy · 23/04/2023 16:14

Helleofabore · 23/04/2023 15:53

Because the ‘A’ stands for ‘activist’ which is the noun.

There is a huge difference between calling people ‘the transes’ or ‘transes’ and trans people. It is also used as a derogation. The same applies with the term ‘gender criticals ’, ‘GCs’ or ‘the gender crits’ as someone has used in the past.

Yes that makes sense thank you.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 23/04/2023 16:35

Oh, that's nice. We'll end up with categories for elite men, good men, crap men and middleaged men who never quite fulfilled their potential. With women and 80 year old males bringing up the rear.

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 23/04/2023 16:41

Well done Glenique!

Hopefully this decision will be overturned. It’s just wrong.
As a runner I take a huge geeky interest in the minutiae of the data around my performances, I’ll never be a pro athlete but I’ve often finished in the top 10% of female competitors in marathons/HMs which is a big deal for me. If I was running against trans athletes I’d feel like I was being outperformed by my peers but without being sure.

nilsmousehammer · 23/04/2023 17:03

A mixed sex/non binary/third category will need a lot of development over time to make it work, as what any child could see is that this will initially turn into a beta men's category with a few female athletes on testosterone and probably be abused by chancers. But it can evolve with experience, rather as the initial mess of women's prisons and the EqA is evolving via the first horrific experiments <steps over the piles of harmed women>, and will probably in the end need to work rather like the paralympic categories do. In the mean time the elite women's and men's categories are left in peace to carry on. And this is the thing. Develop additional provision until the cows come home, great. Do it. Wonderful. Just stop buggering up everyone and everything else in the process until they are beyond fucked off and their patience is gone.

clpsmum · 23/04/2023 14:20

Why does it matter ffs how does it affect you, are you competing?

Are you being intentionally obtuse?

shakershaker · 23/04/2023 17:08

Next they'll have a cats category for people who identify as cats pmsl

poppysockies · 23/04/2023 17:09

Miaow!

PatchworkElmer · 23/04/2023 17:16

I agree with the other runners who have said they do look at their data, where they rank against other women etc. This would undeniably skew the data.

DoormatBob · 23/04/2023 17:22

Does anyone know the time and age?

If under 4 hours certainly could be close to taking a GFA space off a real woman for next year. Wouldn't even get close as a man.

Just had a heated discussion with my teen DD re this person, is it definite Glenique (and other trans athletes) qualified on the basis of female qualifying times?

Which means that mediocre males score far higher in the enbie category than they would in the male category. Boston Marathon results: 6 males, 1 female taking testosterone.

So you don't care that a male bodied person has a huge advantage over a female bodied person in a gruelling marathon?
There is a reason men aren't put up against women.

This testosterone advantage is getting beyond the pale.

Man absolutely shite at sport
''I'm a woman!''
Sweeps the board.

So grossly unfair to women.

Cherryblossoms85 · 23/04/2023 17:50

This idea that it's only your own time that matters is weird. I've trained for a half, I've already achieved the time I wanted in my last full distance training run, but I'm still entering the race, precisely because I want to know where that puts me. My Garmin already tells me all my stats and previous runs, so why else would I bother racing at all?

MrsJamin · 23/04/2023 17:50

So -Glen- "Glenique" finished, stats are here results.tcslondonmarathon.com/2023/?content=detail&fpid=search&pid=search&idp=T8C2O3HQ3F7466 - in the 50-54 category. On my view it doesn't say W for woman but it did in the app (all the men I followed had a M).

So not quite fast enough for a GFA place. I also assume Women category based on Gender/Overall position numbers

MrsJamin · 23/04/2023 17:57

This is how Glenique's profile looks in the official LM tracking app.

Good, Glenique is much slower than me - the pace really fell off a cliff in the second half 😌

Clymene · 23/04/2023 17:59

He's knocked every single woman in the list behind him back a place.

Cheat
