Gosh it is heartening to see even more evidence that the tide has turned. She's stuck to her guns and been too reasonable to be cancelled by the misogynists.

Times article here

The uncancelling of JK Rowling

Tide appears to be turning for the Harry Potter author ostracised for her trans views

I am very very happy to read this. Thanks OP.

Really pleased to see this and to see balanced journalism. The tide is turning, common sense will return. And the attempts of some on this thread to cast JKR as "anti-trans" rather than as a Boudicca calming speaking out for women's rights, is just a bit pathetic really. Women won't wheesh and all that.

AdamRyan · 17/04/2023 09:17

Tidyspy · 17/04/2023 08:58

@AdamRyan not everyone has to agree on everything, women are allowed to be difficult. PP has been great for the GC movement and that’s enough - it’s impossible for everyone to share the same views all the time, that’s what “no debate” demanded and it shouldn’t be a requirement ever.

No I agree, was just pointing out that JKR and KJK have quite different views

Pleased to see its been published in NZ after our terrible media coverage recently!

That's one of the funniest things I've ever read on here, and I re-read the screaming at the Sistine chapel thread the other day.

loislovesstewie · 17/04/2023 09:44

No she doesn't. She took a pen name to write some. I don't know why she chose Robert Galbraith, but does it matter? So did the Brontes. And George Eliot was Mary Ann Evans. Lots of authors change name or just use initials. Get over it.

heathspeedwell · 17/04/2023 09:48

@hotdiggetydog you seem to have missed the entire reason why a female writer might feel the need to use a male pen name.

Have you heard of a thing called gender stereotypes? Has it occurred to you that they can be particularly damaging to women?

heathspeedwell · 17/04/2023 09:55

@hotdiggetydog if you are shocked that someone gender critical has a problem with gender stereotypes then it really might help you to read up on what gender critical actually means.

To expand on your point, lots of women become men and men become women, and not just for writing purposes.

Get over it.

No one literally becomes the opposite sex. Hth.

She didn't actually 'become a man'.
Because that's impossible.

It is possible to sign a different name or wear different clothes and so on- lots of people do that.

loislovesstewie · 17/04/2023 10:22

Nobody becomes a man unless they are born male. Nobody becomes a woman unless she is born female. No one changes sex. It's deluded to think anyone changes sex.

marseille · 17/04/2023 10:26

Oh dear . Hotdog is back.
Have a Bud light and a lie down dear.
Somebody using a different name is not the same as popping balloons down your top and declaring yourself a woman ( see random canadian woodworking teacher) Even trans people must have been embarrassed by that dude.

Interesting.
If someone presents as male sometimes, female other times, or even neutral, but does not self identify as non-binary, but as a woman, how would you describe them?

RoyalCorgi · 17/04/2023 10:39

hotdiggetydog · 17/04/2023 09:23

Bashes trans people but pretends to be a bloke when writing some of her books.

I've seen this used a lot on Twitter as some kind of killer argument.

Obviously she doesn't bash trans people - I challenge you to find a single instance of JKR bashing trans people. It will take a long time, because ther isn't one.

But the stupidity of the argument is mind-boggling. The question that always arises with trans ideologues is: are they really that stupid? Or do they assume that other people are? How can anyone genuinely believe that a female author adopting a male pseudonym is the same as men demanding to be called Veronica and flashing their dick in the women's changing room?

She never pretended to be a bloke though.

I've been looking at the comments sections on the many many articles regarding the new HP series online....they are so reassuring! Thousands upon thousands of people commenting how much they love JKR, how they agree with her, how she never said anything transphobic, and so on. The vast vast majority are supportive and clear in their understanding. Sprinkled handfuls of TRA's and their supporters plus a few nutter right wing jobs who think she is transphobic and support her, but seriously, so cheering.

Can you explain to us how exactly women become men and vice versa? If you are so adamant that it happens, you can tell us how, I am sure.

@AdamRyan

Sounds like most women - some days they wear trousers, some times skirts, sometimes make up , sometimes not - I don't know how people manage to figure out what they're 'presenting as'

But somehow.... people just figure it out and call them ......by their name?

TheKeatingFive · 17/04/2023 10:44

The question that always arises with trans ideologues is: are they really that stupid? Or do they assume that other people are?

its more that they have nothing else by way of argument and they're firing any old shit out there to see if it sticks

Kanaloa · 17/04/2023 10:46

Was she ever really cancelled? People whines about it and insisted she wasn’t associated with Harry Potter (which is a bizarre statement) but as far as I could see Potter is still king. It’s moved on to the next generation, my kids are fans as I was at their age. Lots of merchandise, new films, the play and so on. I think rather than ‘uncancelling’ I’d have called it the failed cancelling.

Kanaloa · 17/04/2023 10:50

Many women have gone into the men's room to skip long queues at the women's room, and gay men and trans women have been invited int the women's room by female friends. The restroom thing is a farce.

In the nicest way possible, what are you talking about? Some random woman inviting men into the women’s toilets (unless it’s their own private bathroom at home) doesn’t mean it’s okay and every other woman must accept it.

Even Percy Weasley told the boys off for being in a girl’s toilet! And that was a dead girl’s toilet too, not even one being used by living girls.
