Gosh it is heartening to see even more evidence that the tide has turned. She's stuck to her guns and been too reasonable to be cancelled by the misogynists.

Times article here

The uncancelling of JK Rowling

Tide appears to be turning for the Harry Potter author ostracised for her trans views

She wanted a man arrested for a 'nazi pug' joke.

TaylorMia · 17/04/2023 08:12

Posie Parker is openly against the whole concept of being trans.

If you're on your phone, click on the link then immediately pop airplane mode on and you should be able to read it

That's an amazing hack 👏

According to the Sunday Times they are looking for 10 year old actors for a TV series - think it was Netflix - I would imagine this will be in the news big time over the next months/ years and criticism of her is going to be largely ignored.

This does worry me a little. That's very young to be targeted by trans activists, and they will be. Some of these activists have no boundaries. They'll go for anyone. I'm sure that JKR will make sure that they have the right support and protections, but I couldn't put my 10yo forward for that.

TheKeatingFive · 17/04/2023 08:20

Posie Parker is openly against the whole concept of being trans.

what does that actually mean though?

Anti trans identifying people in women's spaces? I agree with her

Anti minors undergoing experimental medical procedures? I'm with her there too

Anti gender non-confirming people expressing themselves as they like? I don't think she is against that? Is she?

TaylorMia · 17/04/2023 08:27

She's triggered by calling a trans woman a she/trans man a he etc. If you think the concept of being trans is a bad thing, then there's no point in insisting you don't have a problem with it.

TaylorMia · 17/04/2023 08:29

Many women have gone into the men's room to skip long queues at the women's room, and gay men and trans women have been invited int the women's room by female friends. The restroom thing is a farce.

I absolutely love this quote:

Casey Bloys, the chairman and chief executive of HBO and HBO Max, dismissed suggestions that showrunners will struggle to find cast members because of her involvement, telling journalists: “That’s a very online conversation."

Yeah. The online hate of JKR haven't impacted the popularity of her books and the franchise, especially the very recent online silence or derision of A Hogwarts Legacy. Entertainment companies are there to make money after all.

The way JKR was vilified and abused is something I will never forget. It was what peaked me. It's great that 3 years on, she's no longer persona non grata. I'm cautiously hopeful that this is a barometer of change in the wider context.

This is s good article and great to see the light shine on reality once more.

FrancescaContini · 17/04/2023 08:37

Maybe some people have actually taken the time to read what she wrote instead of blindly following the loudest crowd of sheep 🤔

SidewaysOtter · 16/04/2023 14:10

Quite, so often Rowling, Posie and others like them are tagged as “anti trans activists” <glares at Guardian>

I think that’s how the BBC has referred to PP, too.

loislovesstewie · 17/04/2023 08:43

Actually I just believe that no one changes sex. The words she, woman, female, girl, apply to sex. I don't find it triggering, just ridiculous to pretend otherwise.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 17/04/2023 08:45

She's triggered by calling a trans woman a she/trans man a he etc.

No, she just thinks it's nonsense. She's not "triggered". She doesn't have PTSD.

These the words of someone who has not actually read what she says in good faith.

She, asking with PP and most of the GC crowd simply don't believe that it is possible to change sex. Not that it's a bad thing. They/we also believe that sex segregation is important in sports, for lesbians etc. That's pretty much it.

“That’s a very online conversation."
What a brilliant put-down! I shall have to remember that one.

heathspeedwell · 17/04/2023 08:51

It's really heartening to finally see that mainstream media recognises that Rowling is the sensible voice of reason, while groups like Mermaids are 'controversial'.

Mermaid's statement was obviously batshit. I think the public is very much waking up to the fact that the ridiculous talk about suicide carries about as much weight as the talk of boycotts.

If its a farce let trans people just drop the whole issue so, we can go back to single sex spaces

AdamRyan · 17/04/2023 08:52

Posie Parker wrote one of the very few comments that made me wince and think "that's not OK" back in the day when she was a MN poster and not a campaigner.

I don't think suggesting her and JKR have similar views is true or helpful.

I do think Posie has been great for the GC movement but she definitely has "a side" and I think that's why so many feminists find her difficult.

GingereIIa · 17/04/2023 08:53

Dylan Mulvaney. King (not Queen) of Tampax and sports bras. Yuk! I'm not buying anything associated with him and ask others not too

TheKeatingFive · 17/04/2023 08:55

She's triggered by calling a trans woman a she/trans man a he etc. If you think the concept of being trans is a bad thing, then there's no point in insisting you don't have a problem with it.

Shes not 'triggered'. Please try not to use nonsense words when people simply don't agree with you.

loislovesstewie · 17/04/2023 08:55

And I can disagree with lots of feminists about different issues, but we should be able to discuss without resorting to abuse. Because we are adults and that is what adults do.

I enjoyed that too Grin

MagicKittens · 17/04/2023 08:57

Are you on the right thread, TaylorMia? You seem to be mixing up JK Rowling with Posie Parker.

But 'gay men and trans women have been invited into the women's room by female friends' -- that's really inconsiderate of those 'friends' if so. They can't consent on behalf of the other women in there, to whom these men are strangers.

Tidyspy · 17/04/2023 08:58

@AdamRyan not everyone has to agree on everything, women are allowed to be difficult. PP has been great for the GC movement and that’s enough - it’s impossible for everyone to share the same views all the time, that’s what “no debate” demanded and it shouldn’t be a requirement ever.

1Week · 17/04/2023 08:58

Its just such a massive obvious thing to understand - you can't change sex - it's unsurprising that people of every persuasion subscribe to it
It's not something that needs years of education to understand, its a fact about the world you acquire during early childhood. It boggles me that this is being denied, just imagine explaining to anybody since the beginning of time up to less than ten years ago, five even, that important high up people, doctors, politicians, are supposed to believe this
