Well they have let female transactivists speak so…

Doesn’t that make them cryptofascists?

Says a lot that the supposed supporters of this event are playing dumb about who else was in attendance.

Ah, I can see you're new to this.

This isn't an event that has 'credibility' which can be undermined. It's handing the microphone to any woman who wants to speak. She doesn't require credibility, other than being a woman.

These events, like feminism, are for all women, including those of whom you disapprove.

You probably don't realise this, but men TRAs/MRAs, misogynists, etc, come on here with really quite tedious regularity to eagerly claim that women shouldn't be allowed to speak, because they hold opinions of which they disapprove.

When the premise of the events is explained they are generally reduced to saying well, in that case, everyone will just disagree with what you're doing, thereby missing the point twice.

Even fascists and racists? Yikes. Critical thinking is key to being a feminist not just cosying up with every bigot going.

Whilst some cling to their predicatble bunkers of old left/right type thinking, the world is re-aligning in different ways - as the old patterns break down.
It just so happens that lots of different groups of people think that women and girls matter and that women are real - as a distinct grouping of human being - with dignity and integrity and with rights that are accorded to them on account of that.

Meanwhile on 'your side' you have woman haters displaying various misogynistic behaviour; guys who like to wear nappies or dress a little girls; blokes who think that advocating violence towards women and girls who are not in their tribe is acceptable. People who hide behind a mask to disguise their true identity. People dsplaying actual fascistic behaviour - trying to close down the speech of women; drowning them out with screams and banging drums.

Have a look at the comments section on local news covering this. It's full of men whos only view on women is their value for baking or breeding, the fact that they've seen this event as an acceptable women's viewpoint is very concerning.

We in NI are still struggling with abortion and helathcare access for women, please through even a smidge of your energy behind that, women are dying and our politicians and silent.

What is inherently wrong with women 'baking' and 'breeding' if that is what they enjoy? Many women do. I'm sick to death of the type of liberal feminism whose end goal is sex denial and disembodiment in the name of freedom, and who view nurturing roles as somehow lesser because women tend to perform them.

it's risible isn't it.

But...but, you're letting a woman speak who's political viewpoint I disagree with! You're the devil!! (Who, KJK has confirmed, if female, would also be allowed to speak 😁).

Seriously? Britain First?

I am aware that Britain First exists, but couldn't name anyone involved in it, let alone point them out in a line-up. I suspect I am not alone in this amongst the average posters on this board.

Absolutely nothing, but I'm not going to sit back and watch the conservatives (small c) and bigots in this country continue to hold women back. Are you honestly saying you believe Edwin Poots and co are staunch defenders of women's rights? This is the problem with importing feminism and activists from GB they have no clue on the grass roots issues facing NI women. My grandmother would have loved to live in a world where she was allowed to achieve more than marriage, children and baking for the church hall. If that's what someone wants all power to them, but the DUP et al have consistently backed policies that tie women to roles they don't want.

EmotionalSupportHyena · 17/04/2023 10:38

Since when did NI women not want to be mothers?

Obviously not all women want to be mothers but in England and Wales over 80% of women have at least one child and IIRC more like 85% in the USA.

Are women in NI so different to other women in the English speaking world?

Were you at the event? Are you a woman? You could have spoken about whatever concerns you have about women's rights in NI.

Clymene · 17/04/2023 10:44

I'm really confused by your post @Brackenfield,specifically this bit:

Are you saying that the women that spoke aren't from NI/Ireland? Confused

CampervanKween · 17/04/2023 10:47

Posie definitely said she wanted to hear from the local women above all. They were the women who were prioritised to speak. I remember her saying that.

Hold women back from what? From becoming wage slaves like men, when what they might actually want is to take a few years out of the rat race to look after their child. We have had equality in law for many years now - and still sex based differences persist. Denying that women often make different choices to men for their own valid reasons is not to deny women's agency.

I've no idea who Edwin Poots is - but you seem to know a lot more about the right wing than many of us here do. Your stance couldn't exist without a pet shadow to rage against.

I actually detect quite a lot of bigotry in your position if you consider that a bigot is someone obstinate and intolerant of the views and rights of others.

Every single country has its own specific context and issues, you have to understand that?

It seems a certain sector of GB feminism got them selves tied up in knots over trans people because they were like "okay well we achieved xyz now what", completely ignoring that NI was entirely left behind by UK abortion provision and other issues

This is my point. You profess to care about the rights of NI women, where were you when Edwin Poots and his colleagues were withholding life saving helathcare for women?

I suggest you read up on the women that have died as a result of Irelands lack of abortion care, many of the women who desperately wanted children

PosieParker or whatever her pseudonym is not from NI. Have a read of the history of feminism on the island of Ireland, it's historically been trans inclusive, we are importing non issues from GB and the US

Like the actual Nazis that turned up to Posie Parker's Melbourne demonstration and made clear they were there to support her?

I think I'll take the side of empathy for people who are human beings, over that of hate and fear.

The more KJK goes extreme, the more the real agenda underneath is revealed.

What was it she said yesterday? That the whole LGBT community is just men in dresses? That is ridiculous as a proposition.

Only one side has been repeatedly violent, and it ain't the side that KJK is on.
