Would you ever consider a transman a man?

Parallel question to this really:

https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/womens_rights/4782092-would-you-ever-consider-a-transwoman-a-woman

Would the straight women here consider a trans-identified female, who "passed" really well, as a romantic/sexual partner?

And for the lesbian women here, would that "passing" be a turn-off?

The only give away is the genitals.

‘Only’ the genitals....that’s hilarious. 🤣🤣🤣

I still think the kinsey scale of 0 - 6 is supper useful https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kinsey_scale

but I really like the new words "homoflexible" and "heteroflexible" (everyday is a school day)

so 0 would be super straight
1 (and 2 maybe) would be heteroflexible
3 Bisexual
4 & 5 homoflexible
6 super gay

& it's important (to me) to emphasise that no sexual orientation is morally superior to the others. Women should be under no more pressure to be bisexual / flexible than to be heterosexual.

Is super straight different from straight? Another unnecessary prefix.

Salvagehunter · 11/04/2023 19:48

Yes!

Does it come with a cape?

Helleofabore · 11/04/2023 19:54

No.

FourTeaFallOut · 11/04/2023 19:56

Then I'm out.

Spidey66 · 11/04/2023 20:00

A good friend of mine is a transman. I've known him 20 years, but only found out about 2 years ago he was a transman. I think of him as a man, albeit a small and slim man. He's gay and in a relationship with someone who AFAIK is biologically male. They've been together all the time I've known him and appear very happy. I love him to bits but obviously would never consider him as anything but a friend. Even before I found out he was trans, I always saw him as gay.

He doesn't scream and shout about it, just chooses to quietly live his life with his partner.

I consider him a bloke, and could happily consider a transman a friend, but I don't think any relationship could be anything but friendship.

Backstreets · 11/04/2023 20:05

Well no.

And if I were to date a woman I'd want it to be someone proud to be one.

Flowerly · 11/04/2023 20:07

Spidey your friend is a bio woman sleeping with a bio man. That does not make your friend gay. Words and their definitions matter.

bellinisurge · 11/04/2023 15:16

@hippygirllucky , you can call your friend whatever you like. But I won't consider them to be a man. I hope that you are making sure your friend gets cervical smear tests regularly.

what a creepy and inappropriate comment. I'm sure the poster doesn't 'make sure' her friend gets any sort of test done frequently and instead assumes that whatever their sex/gender, as they are an adult they are responsible for their own medical care.

In exactly the same way as I don't feel any obligation to make sure my female friends get smear tests done - their bodies, literally nothing to do with me. And vice versa! I would be incredibly offended if anyone else other than me - whether my mum, my friend, my partner, thought they had any right to 'make' me get a smear test regularly!

I put superstraight on the census so maybe my cape will show up in 100 years time?

Sigh.

The Incredibles and Edna Mole very clearly showed why you should NEVER wear a cape if you are super!

Edna Mole is voiced by a male, by the way. Think it was the ditector of the film. Brad Bird? Or some such. He’s not actually a Bird, though.

SwordToFlamethrower · 11/04/2023 21:17

I'm not attracted to misogyny so no.

Cherryblossoms85 · 11/04/2023 21:21

No idea really. I don't know any. I saw a trans woman on twitter somewhere who was quite hot, good arms, lantern jaw, thought they eyeliner set off the bone structure nicely. So yeah...I can't see myself fancying a trans man but never say never!

Animalsoffartingwood · 11/04/2023 21:25

SwordToFlamethrower · 11/04/2023 21:17

This sums up my feelings about the questions posed in both threads nicely for me.

One of my younger relatives is a supposed transmen. They dress more feminine than me (I mean, they still bother with makeup and earrings)
It causes my eighty year grandad no end of confusion.

"So how is Mary, I mean Sidney."
"Not Sidney anymore Grandad, now Brook"
"Why?"
"Someone told them Sidney is a unisex and they are a man"
"But Brooke is a girls and boys name too"
"Oh it was you then,.soo transphobic"
"Fuck me I don't understand. Earrings and fast floral fashion make you a man? "
"No grandad his gender identity makes him a man."
"He ain't got no willy yet then? Thank fuck for small mercy's".

Unsurprisingly he is working class. They appear to be refreshingly immune to gender ideology.

Sad side effect is he now thinks my boys are trans because I allow them to wear all the colours and to play with all toys.

Thanks Brooke!

What about xxy chromosome people?

Ah yes.

Shame Madonna didn’t heed Bird’s advice.

What about xxy chromosome people?

Tall men with small testicles are men 🤷‍♀️

Would you ever consider a transman a man?
thirdfiddle · 11/04/2023 21:50

What about xxy chromosome people?
? They are male. Kleinfelter syndrome.

Unless combined with CAIS or other condition that prevents a foetus developing as male, but that combined with XXY would be incredibly rare.

Would I date a transman? Probably not. I'm attracted to a Penis not labia. I can't help that.

Wouldn’t they have a fake penis though?

For me if they had no boobs and a penis I probably still wouldn’t want to be in a relationship with them just like I wouldn’t be with a non trans man who’s had a lot of plastic surgery as I think emotionally they may be quite challenging to be with.

Not all transmen go for bottom surgery, and even if they do, for me, it's not the same as a biology man's anatomy. It doesn't function or look the same.

ISpyCobraKai · 11/04/2023 22:00

It looks like those cheap pate things you buy in Supermarkets and doesn't function as a penis, mainly because it isn't one.

Tomorrowisagesaway · 11/04/2023 22:07

I know a transman through a hobby who passes as a man, only reason I know he's a transman is because he talks about it. I have no reason to know and am not close to him.

I suspect that being trans is, for him, a big part of his identity, and it's just more interesting than being a 30 something male.

I'm glad he passes as it makes him less likely to be the victim of male violence but I don't think of him as a man, I feel so sorry for the confused young woman he was in the past.

hamstersarse · 11/04/2023 16:25

I know this is a bit of a crude question, but who exactly is the target dating market for transmen?

Who is it they would like to attract as a partner?

From what I've read (no direct experience), it's lesbian women who've bought into "queer is good, same sex attracted is bad". Sometimes who were with them before they transitioned and have been conditioned (like women with trans-identifying men) into thinking you don't give up on your partner, sometimes honestly the transman is just a butch lesbian with extra steps (but no extra hormones).

JacquelinePot · 11/04/2023 22:15

The vast majority of people in this country are opposite sex attracted (89.4%).

2% are same sex attracted (homosexual, bisexual or "pansexual").

The opposite sex attracted women (those in the 89.4%) are attracted to men. So no, they won't consider someone who is not a man as a sexual partner. If they did, they would be part of the 2%.
