[RNZ] Spike in online hate toward trans community after Posie Parker visit - researchers

landOFconfusion · 04/04/2023 00:48

For those who aren’t familiar with the New Zealand media landscape, RNZ is the equivalent of the BBC. It’s a state funded public service broadcaster.

There is an interesting article on RNZ today about the real and measurable effects that ideologues like Posie Parker have on creating and intensifying hatred towards marginalised groups.

Spike in online hate toward trans community after Posie Parker visit - researchers

Analysts monitoring online extremism say the anti-trans rights activist's visit sparked a massive increase in the level of online hatred directed at the trans community.

I initially assumed that The Disinformation Project would be scientific, y’know, like the expert witnesses giving evidence re: social media in the Depp/Heard US case, who used specialist software to crunch numbers of tweets and the reach of each tweet?

But it looks like TDP just scroll through social media looking for stuff they don’t personally like, and then write word salady reports referring to other people’s personal opinions as ‘Information Disorders’ as if having a different opinion to the government is an illness?

It’s a bit batshit Big Brother-y, frankly.

Plus, as that Charlie bloke says, TDP pivot their narrative so many times they end up turning in circles.

DarkDayforMN · 04/04/2023 10:09

Shaneel Lal, named in that article, was openly and joyously celebrating the actual literal (genuine real physical) violence against PP, and now they're claiming they're being sent online threats.

(I think they're also the same person who made fun of the horrific murder of Charlene Downes?)

Ah boo boo boo boo boo. Boo hoo hoo hoo hoo. WAAH WAAAH WAAH fucking waaaaah. I don't think I've been so terribly sorry for anyone since I read the sad tale of a transwoman who's not allowed to beat women in running races any more.

😭😭😭😭

What a fucking ridiculous post.

MarshaBradyo · 04/04/2023 10:09

Given the source and low quality of the article I’m not sure about op’s claim on RNZ being equivalent to BBC

BBC has its gender ideology moments but it’s not this bad.

So a state funded media outlet pushing something so dire does seem up there with politicians excusing the violence

LizzieSiddal · 04/04/2023 10:36

Analysts monitoring online extremism say it has hit new lows with one researcher describing it as "genocidal".

I stopped reading the article after this sentence. You cannot take them seriously after printing such a ridiculous comparison.

nilsmousehammer · 04/04/2023 10:40

'Hate' = saying things like 'that was totally unacceptable', and 'stop using ridiculously over dramatic terms like 'genocide' for people saying that was appalling behaviour'.

Yeah yeah.

No! No! Lizzie, you really missed the clanger.

The person who made that statement is with an organisation called The Disinformation Project.

The person also used the current buzz words of neo-fascist and neo-nazi to describe people who disagree with the government, referred to as an anti-mandate group. Because that is what a person who is rational and seeks to only present the facts and the truth does….

anyolddinosaur · 04/04/2023 10:43

Is "online hate" just people saying they disapprove of actual violence against women?

I was not in the "boycott NZ camp", although I abandoned plans to visit. This makes me think about boycotting NZ produce.

Did you see that in depth BBC report on the Kellie Jay Keen situation and on the violence that the women suffered as a result of...wanting to go and watch women say words?

No, me neither.

Florissante · 04/04/2023 14:53

Good point. The posters who won't look at news sources they don't approve of can continue in their happy, deliberate ignorance.

"Online hate" = women saying "no" to men.

IwantToRetire · 04/04/2023 16:27

From page 2 when I said Who knew that New Zealanders are so politically immature that the arrival of one woman from the UK to the country has thrown it into turmoil.

It was a joke. And apologise if anyone thought I thought that. :)

nepeta · 04/04/2023 17:07

If we took the way the term 'genocidal' is used by the most extreme trans activists and how it is defined by them, then the obvious conclusion would be that it is they who are being 'genocidal' towards women and girls as a sex class by demanding our words, spaces, and rights and by insisting that we cannot exist in public or in laws as the people we really are and define ourselves as.

That would be a stupid and exaggerated argument and so we don't use it. But it would be the mirror image of what is happening now.

Likewise, the online hate is used here as a mirror image. Those activists colonising the Women's Country are trying to define what citizens of that country are allowed to say or do and when there are uprisings they are called undeserved bigotry and hatred, even if the uprisings are not about hatred at all, but about trying to hold on to the old rights those citizens had.

nettie434 · 04/04/2023 20:44

Thanks to the posters who have found out more about the Disinformation Project. It was good work but how have standards of journalism slipped so far that RNZ publishes an article without doing some fact checking first? It's even worse given that we were told that RNZ receives public money.

YouJustDoYou · 04/04/2023 22:24

"They'll punch you in the face to show you how innocent they are".

Aww, shame its gone, I was looking forward to discovering how people's fracturing skulls and crushed windpipes were cruelly hurting the hands of the peaceful and loving people just wanting to get on with their day of bashing and strangling.

Yes, It's Posie's fault... I'm sure there's no possible way at all that it could be the crazy things they scream at the top of their lungs that's turning people against their cause... 🙄

SquidwardBound · 11/04/2023 05:03

Is the purpose of the disinformation project to spread disinformation? It certainly looks like it.

forsucksfake · 11/04/2023 05:07

Online hate:
No.
Men are not women.
LOL.
Male violence is male violence no matter what it wears.
Stop appropriating specious "intersex" identities.
I disagree with you.
That's a man.
He.
Him.

forgotmyusername1 · 11/04/2023 08:05

I am not surprised that there is a growth in online anti trans rhetoric

There are millions of people like me in the world who for a long time were in the be kind, live and let live camp. The increasing violence of the tra's is turning those like me ⁹firmly over to the side of letting women speak.

It is a spectacular own goal
