[RNZ] Spike in online hate toward trans community after Posie Parker visit - researchers

For those who aren’t familiar with the New Zealand media landscape, RNZ is the equivalent of the BBC. It’s a state funded public service broadcaster.

There is an interesting article on RNZ today about the real and measurable effects that ideologues like Posie Parker have on creating and intensifying hatred towards marginalised groups.

Spike in online hate toward trans community after Posie Parker visit - researchers

Analysts monitoring online extremism say the anti-trans rights activist's visit sparked a massive increase in the level of online hatred directed at the trans community.

NZer here (live abroad). I used to respect RNZ. Not now. They not once actually set out the reasons why women were attending the Let Women Speak meetings. Never once did they explain that, actually, the women there had views that were held fairly commonly in communities all over NZ, about the protection and safety of women and children. Never once wrpte about women's concerns that sometimes, dangerous people self-ID in order to be well, dangerous. Or their concerns that their kids could be manipulated and medicalised in the name of inclusivity.
Instead, they headlined words like "Nazi" and "anti-trans activists" and "anti-LGBTQ". They made it sound like the women gathering there were against the human rights of the 'poor nice calm transgender folks'.
RNZ let everyone down. Poor journalism.

BTW it's not hateful to say that Woman = Adult Human Female.

IwantToRetire · 04/04/2023 01:46

Oh look, she is being blamed for creating polarisation between politicians as well

https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/politics/the-front-page-do-culture-wars-win-politicians-votes/

Who knew that New Zealanders are so politically immature that the arrival of one woman from the UK to the country has thrown it into turmoil.

And we think the UK has a problme with gutter press.

No. New Zealanders everywhere are talking (whispering) in private about transgender politics. All the politicians know its a hot potato. None of them will touch it with a shitty stick. Pack of chicken shits.

Eyerollcentral · 04/04/2023 01:56

I lived in NZ for a while and went out with a kiwi for a long time. I cannot imagine any single kiwi I ever met endorsing the kinds of views the NZ media presents. There is a huge huge gulf between the ordinary public and the media on this issue.

This thread brings to mind a sticker I saw on Etsy. Actions meet consequences.

Did you really think that mob looked good for trans people?
Being seen attacking a small blonde lady for wanting to talk?
Didn't you think people might go and research online what it was actually about and find out the truth?
It's entirely unsurprising if there's backlash, not that I'd trust any reporting from NZ media after seeing the lies they've printed recently.
TBH I'd imagine the backlash consists of disagreeing with the mob and not much else.
No one out there on the GC side is threatening rape or punching old ladies in the face.

Interesting username @landOFconfusion

Why do people on here always do this when they see a post or poster they dont like?!
Try some nonsense shit/conspiracy theory about their name?
Like they're trying to discredit?
It's ridiculous.

People are angry that a 70 year old woman got her skull fractured by a man who head-butted her and quickly followed up with 3-4 punches to the face and had to be pulled OFF her before he killed her. Are you claiming that only a transphobic Nazi would be angry over this male violence? We saw it. Everyone fucking saw it. Your gaslighting is weak.

CremeEggQueen · 04/04/2023 02:11

Does it ever occur to you that the alleged "spike" in hostility might be nothing mirw than people objecting to one of the oh-so-marginalised (lmao) chucking a couple of pints of tomato juice over a woman, an act of violent assault that most people take exception to? I'm well aware of how anycriticism of trans people is spun as "hate"
I was going to answer that sensibly as thought it valid point ( don't agree with soup throwing myself, think it's assault) and yes could be hostility there) then saw your lmao and dont know why I'm even bothering

This is so true. The ordinary public are very concerned about the political power that is pushing transgendertrend. They are also kiwis, so cowardly and unwilling to 'upset anyone' by saying what they think. Kiwis are so conservative. And not prepared to 'be the person that wasn't nice'.

Canadians also.

Being seen attacking a small blonde lady for wanting to talk?
This kind of shit is what I take up at.
As a small blonde lady probably around PPs age (not sure of her actual age without googling) it's just not "wanting to talk" ffs.
Should I never be held accountable for my actions because leave me and my opinions alone, I'm blonde and small?!
I find that offensive tbh!

What do they generally post about? Is it usually this kind of nonsense?

What did she say that justified assault by a larger man? I don’t think she actually got to say anything, did she? The blondeness is irrelevant but the size absolutely is. I’m about the same height and I’m fairly able to stand up for myself but even a small man of 5 foot 6 could easily knock me out with little effort. Most of the rampaging angry men captured on video at the NZ protest were substantially larger than 5’ 6”. What did the elderly women who were assaulted say that justified the violence that they received?

CremeEggQueen · 04/04/2023 02:31

What did she say that justified assault by a larger man?
I just said that I thought throwing soup was assault too, and it was by a trans woman as far as In aware

Yes assaulted by a man. Trans women are men.

Yes, is the short answer.

BluebellBlueballs · 04/04/2023 02:34

This is classic DARVO

TRAs are cresting the 'hate ' they doesn't kf through their actions, then scream transphobia

Typical reaction

Eyerollcentral · 04/04/2023 02:34

@CremeEggQueen what did you mean by this ‘Should I never be held accountable for my actions…’? Do you think people should be assaulted or ‘held accountable’ for stating the biological reality that people cannot change sex and that trans women are men? If so, why?

CremeEggQueen · 04/04/2023 02:35

HirplesWithHaggis · 04/04/2023 02:32

Also- views that go against the grain on here, so get nonsense conspiracy type posts about their usernames like is always the way
It gets amusing after a while

The "lmao" is because, for a marginalised hated group, trans people have managed to policy-capture a lot of organisations and are a remarkably safe demographic. Trans people in the UK are far more likely to be murderers than murdered.

Conspiracy like there is such a thing as a ‘girl penis’? I would say that gets amusing but it’s really not.

You think that being head-butted and repeatedly punched is "being held accountable for your actions"? Do you read your own words before pressing Post?
