[RNZ] Spike in online hate toward trans community after Posie Parker visit - researchers

landOFconfusion · 04/04/2023 00:48

For those who aren’t familiar with the New Zealand media landscape, RNZ is the equivalent of the BBC. It’s a state funded public service broadcaster.

There is an interesting article on RNZ today about the real and measurable effects that ideologues like Posie Parker have on creating and intensifying hatred towards marginalised groups.

Spike in online hate toward trans community after Posie Parker visit - researchers

Analysts monitoring online extremism say the anti-trans rights activist's visit sparked a massive increase in the level of online hatred directed at the trans community.

That people living in NZ feel that they are being limited to propaganda style content from media and that there is no alternative voices being heard

I'm glad Sean Plunket is independent and continues to ask good questions 💪

IncompleteSenten · 04/04/2023 08:03

She's a women's rights activist, not an anti trans rights one.
Can't even put women first in an article bashing one! 🙄

Hate speech from women's rights activists tends to be the literal violence of stating the fact that biological men are not biological women if they say they now are and that women should not be sacrificed to please them.

Hate speech from TRA's tends to be death threats. Rape threats. Kill yourself I'll help comments. Publishing people's addresses and urging others to go there and cause harm.

Not as heinous as the act of literal violence, hate and bigotry of suggesting women are entitled to single sex spaces and someone with xy chromasones and a penis and testicles is not a biological woman entitled to be in women's spaces I grant you, but not great.

Finally. Marginalised?
They're having a laugh. Laws are being rewritten to please them. Language is being changed to please them. Women are being erased to please them. Lesbians are being called bigots if they won't sleep with a transwoman.

I wish all marginalised groups had that level of clout!

IncompleteSenten · 04/04/2023 08:04

Chromosomes. 🙄 My bloody spelling.

Baabaa75 · 04/04/2023 08:05

I'm almost certain any outpouring of 'hate' (that has resulted in no actual harm to any trans person, in fact isn't Madonna raising money for the TRAs in Tennessee as they're the actual victims right 👍) is more due to the fact in the last week TRAs have fractured an older womans skull, thrown tomato juice over another woman trying to exercise her right to free speech and killed 6 in a school. Pretty sure it's not because of anything JK or Posie have done.

Datun · 04/04/2023 08:18

The other way TRAs constantly surprise me is their never ending capacity to damage their own cause with threads like this one.

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 04/04/2023 08:20

See I’d love to see the other side of this, to understand why people believe that individuals who have the backing of the state and the media are fragile and marginalised, to understand why it’s reasonable to be whipped up into a violent frenzy by women saying things you disagree with

but this article is not going to help me understand that due to the fact that it’s made up

why don’t you talk @landOFconfusion ? You evidently have strong opinions on this matter. Come and put your money where your mouth is

RoseslnTheHospital · 04/04/2023 08:21

@landOFconfusion having read the article and tried to find any evidence for the claims being made by the quoted researcher via their website, I can find nothing about the research. Nothing about the data, the methods used, anything that quantifies the "before" situation and the "after" situation. etc etc. Is this normal for an article by the RNZ? To quote people without context and without any supporting information?

Helleofabore · 04/04/2023 08:25

So just to recap about specific incidents from extreme trans activists (not necessarily trans people but some most certainly were perpetrated by males who are trans) :

A 70 year old women was beaten with suspected fractured skull.

A woman’s foot was broken.

Kellie Jay Keen had tomato juice or soup thrown at her, at least one egg I saw thrown at her from
behind while they were desperately trying to escort her out of the park, other clear liquid sprayed at her at least once also on that video. She has also received a credible threat delivered under her hotel door.

A man received an elbow to the head.

A woman was pushed over and then her and her 10 year old daughter were subjected to a male rubbing their nipples in front of them in what, I guess, would be an indecent exposure event. That woman and child and other people wanting to hear women speak then went to stand safely away. They were then followed by that male and around 30 other protestors. When the woman looked at the female toilets to evaluate them as a safe haven, the male took off and entered the toilets to remove that Avenue of safety. Remember, there is a 10 year old girl present here.

The tomato and the other liquid also hit other people.

At least one organiser was doxxed and felt fearful for their safety because they were doxxed.

Other incidents seem to keep coming to light. I doubt we have heard the end of the them.

But has the media reported any of this in a balanced way? I would love to see any links to NZ media who reported the incident’s in a balanced and professional manner. Was there any?

Yet, we have a poster here who seems to think that RNZ article was valuable insight.

I tried to find out a bit more about ‘The Disinformation Project’.

Their ‘Gender’ person is a historian called Kate Hannah.

https://thedisinfoproject.org/about-us/

I found this clip of Hannah failing to answer questions relating to information dissemination in NZ during the covid pandemic.

Why did she run away? Watch as Kate Hannah is questioned about her Government funded research.

Kate Hannah is the Director of the Government funded 'Disinformation Project' based in New Zealand. She held a talk on her research and one of her subjects w...

And here is someone, I assume this is Lal, talking complete bollocks about Kellie Jay on NZ television.

https://twitter.com/aja02537920/status/1642948148501917698?s=46&t=KoykWa-IFitZMrteWP2pKA

Apparently, the vilification of Kellie Jay Keen has gone so far that an activist say this unchallenged on TV. And the person who wrote that article thinks that it is Kellie Jay Keen who is responsible here for any push back , violent or non-violent, against activism such as this.

Shaneel Lal is going around lying and stirring up shit all over mainstream media.

If there is a backlash against trans activists, then some of their own supporters brought this on them.

But I think 'online hate' might include misgendering and understandable anger at older women being battered. Maybe?

Exasperated sighing, eye rolling, exclamations of WTF???!!!
...some more instances of online hate.

Remember, part of Starmer's proposals incl stamping down hard on online hate, Mumsnet will be under his spotlight.

CryptoFascistMadameCholet · 04/04/2023 08:45

Kate Hannah doesn’t like women who look like her mum writing ‘cunt’ on Facebook.

[RNZ] Spike in online hate toward trans community after Posie Parker visit - researchers
hallouminatus · 04/04/2023 08:54

The article quotes a researcher for the (perhaps aptly named) Disinformation Project but no evidence of any actual research. There's nothing on the Disinformation Project website about it, and the researcher's own twitter account is restricted. I don't know the context of the researcher's statements, but it seems like he may just have been overheard having a rant.

CryptoFascistMadameCholet · 04/04/2023 09:07

this is a month old so predates Posie in NZ

3:10 Founder of The Disinformation Project unironically repeats trans conspiracy nonsense that critics of transgender overreach want all LGBTQIA people to not exist. No acknowledgement that the resistance against trans overreach has been largely pioneered by lesbians.

The Disinformation Project is not a serious research project, it’s just the founders own ideas about what and what isn’t acceptable to talk about!

Of course they are going to say this. They can't say 'men got violent' as it rather proves Posie's point.

Although no idea why there is this uptick in hate, according to them, the event was a peaceful celebration.

Florissante · 04/04/2023 09:15

CremeEggQueen · 04/04/2023 02:05

Why do people on here always do this when they see a post or poster they dont like?!
Try some nonsense shit/conspiracy theory about their name?
Like they're trying to discredit?
It's ridiculous.

Most inane post so far.

Christmasisshit · 04/04/2023 09:29

I went looking for the magical proof behind the article and came up with, nada. Same as when I look for the magical proof that humans can change sex. Just because you say it loudly and often, does not make it true.

Wellies54 · 04/04/2023 09:40

Things can be spun in all kinds of ways. In a sane world the headlines could read;

'Politicians call on trans people to distance themselves from extreme trans activist mob after violent attack on women's right's campaigner'

or

'Criticism has been growing online after a violent trans activist mob protested a peaceful gathering of women, one of whom was punched in the face by an angry thug. Trans people have been called upon to affirm that they support and respect women's rights and do not support these extremists.'

What, you mean no evidence of eye rolling and exasperated sighing from online GCs leading to violence against trans?

I can hardly believe it. Almost as if there's no planned armageddon of trans.

Faffertea · 04/04/2023 09:54

This is what I love about FWR.

Poster starts a thread about a report. Women here read it. They then (as we’ve been told so many times) do their research on it to find out the back story, the credibility of the research and the researcher. And find out (surprise, surprise) that it’s a load of poorly researched bollocks.

Time and again when posters like Land, Mishy etc share this poorly researched biased articles this happens.

Of course, they’ll cry anti-trans bias, right wing blah blah but they never learn. And they never think of the people who read but don’t post. Who see their disingenuousness.

If you’re going to post an article, be prepared for it to be dissected and discussed.

AlisonDonut · 04/04/2023 09:59

CryptoFascistMadameCholet · 04/04/2023 09:11

Just starting this now if anyone wants to watch along with me.

I'm halfway through this. New Zealand is mental.

Gosh those women were even braver than I thought.

Boiledbeetle · 04/04/2023 10:00

Datun · 04/04/2023 07:36

And OP has found all this convincing?

I continue to be surprised that TRAs fail to grasp that normal people tend to take something of a dim view of men who fracture the skulls of pensioners.

Anyone that thinks a woman, or a man, should be punched repeatedly and left with a fractured skull just for wanting to talk needs to take a really good look at how they view the world.

But as this thread has been started by someone who seems to have a hatred of KJK I'm not surprised by the lack of understanding that in normal society you don't just go around lamping people just because you disagree with them.

ScrollingLeaves · 04/04/2023 10:06

From the first sentence about her being ‘anti-trans’ you knew the spew of reversed blame and victimhood for Transactivists that would follow.

It is the Transactivists’ hate they should be looking at. Just maybe it it was their disgraceful behaviour the other weekend which has brought transgender ideology into the general public’s attention.
