Suella Braverman vows to stamp out grooming gangs behind organised child sex abuse

IwantToRetire · 03/04/2023 00:30

The Home Secretary, writing in The Mail on Sunday, pledges to 'track down and punish the grooming gangs with the same sense of mission and determination' used to pursue the murderers of Stephen Lawrence, the black British teenager who was killed in a racially motivated attack at a bus stop in South London in 1993.

Ms Braverman, who was born in Harrow, in North-West London, to a Kenyan mother and Mauritian father, writes: 'The time has come to make right one of the greatest injustices seen in Britain in modern times. The systematic rape, exploitation and abuse of young girls by organised gangs of older men – and the disgraceful failure of the authorities to act despite ample evidence – is a stain on our country.'

A Buddhist, Ms Braverman describes the 'perpetrators' as 'groups of men, almost all British-Pakistani, who hold cultural attitudes completely incompatible with British values'.

I am not sure if this is just the DM take on what she said, or if it accurately reflects what she said.

If she did say this and not talk about how men of all cultures, given the opportunity, have and will exploit young women, then she is letting down all the women who are exploited.

But didn’t labour introduce the GRA? And doesn’t KS admit to not knowing what a woman is? How will labour protect women’s rights if they can’t even defibrillator what a woman is? Hasn’t KS pledged to bring in self ID. As has the pub dems and the Green Party. Can you show me one political party that is protecting women’s rights?

Happylittlechicken · 04/04/2023 07:15

Define even fat finger syndrome there

jgw1 · 04/04/2023 07:15

ResisterRex · 04/04/2023 06:24

Yup. But as I said, always instructive to see which threads jgw pops up on. Suppose the same goes for toobig as well.

I'm fascinated by the idea that pointing out the government and in this example the Home Secretary is utterly self serving makes one a Labour activist. Is it not appropriate to be angry about how much this government has for 13 years damaged the country?

jgw1 · 04/04/2023 07:18

PorcelinaV · 04/04/2023 06:34

Then why didn't the mainstream media and mainstream politicians talk about it for a long time?

I guess they were "paid off" also.

I have a bridge to sell you if you're interested...

For a long time much of the mainstream media concentrated on hating the EU. Now that we have left the EU, they and the politicans they support need to find other targets for their hatred.

Indeed they did and the Cons have had 13 years to get rid of it, they have no policy to do any such thing.

Self ID is already happening, the Cons have opened up many extra clinics to allow this, almost 500 men a year Self ID... its a bit time consuming but the end result is a man can say he is a women and get a gender recognition certificate to prove it.

Parties in opposition cannot protect anything, they are in opposition, Labour have called for extra investigations and specific Police units into grooming gangs for about 10 years... ignored.

But back to Braverman, i will vote Tory if she reduces child exploitation, its a heinous crime, for far too long left unpunished, however, under her watch, it will just continue, its just hot air & not a subject they care about.

Happylittlechicken · 04/04/2023 07:31

I totally agree. I’m not defending the tories at all. I just think there is no viable political party that women can vote for. It does make me wonder, if this is such a marginalised vulnerable group, why is every government and political party bowing down to them?

jgw1 · 04/04/2023 07:11

The OP helpfully provided a link.

No, OP didn't provide a link to SB's "policy" of "racist dog whistles". So could you do that? Or are you just making things up?

beastlyslumber · 04/04/2023 07:50

But this is an article about her taking on grooming gangs. It says nothing about "racist dog whistles".

You can't just make things up, you know. Do you think women are all stupid or something?

Why don't you want SB to tackle these rape gangs? Is your tribal allegiance to Labour so strong that you can't even support women and girls? That's really sad.

Can you provide any examples from the last 13 years as to how Braverman and the Conservatives have taken on grooming gangs?

You might like to consider the 25% cuts to funding for the Criminal Justice system in your answer.

Howpo · 04/04/2023 08:07

@beastlyslumber
Second, the perpetrators are groups of men, almost all British-Pakistani, who hold cultural attitudes completely incompatible with British values. They have been left mostly unchallenged both within their communities and by wider society, despite their activities being an open secret

Many of them have gone unpunished and remain at large

This is the so called Dog Whistle, she doesn't need to actually write the words.

Its also untrue, the vast majority are young white british males, under 30.

Her interview with Sophie Ridge and this article were later rubbished by her own MPs and dept.

If a minister cannot get the basic facts right then what hope to tackle this crime?

Btw, they have escaped justice under Braverman and her parties watch.

Whaeanui · 04/04/2023 08:13

If you’re referring to the article linked, directly before what you’ve copied she was referring to Rotherham, the ‘grooming gang phenomenon’ so I read it to mean she was meaning those specifically. Not a general claim about child abuse.

I am and she made it perfectly clear what she was referring too - Pakistani Men.

There is no mention of Rotherham in any of her 4 main bullet points or white british gangs.

She is playing to a certain gallery and judging by this thread, doing a sterling job.

Whaeanui · 04/04/2023 08:25

This is the start of the article directly before the bullet points:
The time has come to right one of the greatest injustices seen in Britain in modern times. The systematic rape, abuse and exploitation of young girls by organised gangs of older men – and the disgraceful failure of the authorities to act despite ample evidence – is a stain on our country.
The grooming gangs scandal stretches back many years and continues to this day. It is nine years since Professor Alexis Jay’s devastating report on abuse in Rotherham. Dozens of trials have taken place in which harrowing victim testimony has made clear not only the suffering caused by evil predators but also how cries for help were ignored by people in authority. Such people were more interested in their careers and political correctness than in protecting and helping the vulnerable.
During last year’s Conservative leadership contest, Rishi Sunak pledged that if he became Prime Minister he would make stamping out grooming gangs, and justice for their victims, a personal priority. The Government will now make good on that promise.
There are four critical facts about the grooming gangs phenomenon. Each must be acknowledged and addressed in turn if we are to eradicate these gangs and bring justice to their victims.

Whaeanui · 04/04/2023 08:26

What do you mean? What is a ‘certain gallery’ and why have you decided I’m in it? Be careful how you refer to other posters who you don’t know.

No one was interested in protecting children, because of the EU?? What?

Should all posters take care when referring to other posters?
For example by not calling them left wing or Labour activists when they are not?

Memories are very short. Theresa May attempted to introduce self ID in 2017.

Your last sentence is entirely correct but the government of the last 13 years has done more to destroy them than any other. History shows no advance in women’s rights has ever been made under a Tory government.

Whaeanui · 04/04/2023 08:32

Theresa May attempted to introduce self ID in 2017. She had a public consultation, they listened and withdrew. Labour won’t do that will they.

Yes i read that.

She then says in point 2 :

Second, the perpetrators are groups of men, almost all British-Pakistani, who hold cultural attitudes completely incompatible with British values

No mention of White british gangs who commit the majority of the offences, in any of the article.

Dog whistle at its finest, stirring up even more division.

Won’t they? Have they said that? It doesn’t matter that May withdrew because she couldn’t afford any more unpopularity than she already had. Why even moot it if she cared about women’s rights?

Whaeanui · 04/04/2023 08:35

Because, as I read it, she’s referring to those same grooming gangs she discussed at the start of the article, Rochdale, Rotherham, Telford… where that is the case.

Howpo · 04/04/2023 08:37

So self ID was withdrawn?

Please explain why over 2000 men have done exactly that, with a GRC since 2017?
May not be instant Self ID, but 96% who apply, get a GRC, the remaining 4% are rejected because they failed to fill out the properly, no surgery is required.

And many more have called them selves women too, without the legal framework.

Jamie Wallace, a Tory MP stood up in the commons and said he was in fact a women and got full support from his party.

Yet its Labours fault ?

That’s how I read it too. I’m not a fan of SB by any measure, but I’m not going to fabricate outrage when it’s uncalled for.
