Suella Braverman vows to stamp out grooming gangs behind organised child sex abuse

IwantToRetire · 03/04/2023 00:30

The Home Secretary, writing in The Mail on Sunday, pledges to 'track down and punish the grooming gangs with the same sense of mission and determination' used to pursue the murderers of Stephen Lawrence, the black British teenager who was killed in a racially motivated attack at a bus stop in South London in 1993.

Ms Braverman, who was born in Harrow, in North-West London, to a Kenyan mother and Mauritian father, writes: 'The time has come to make right one of the greatest injustices seen in Britain in modern times. The systematic rape, exploitation and abuse of young girls by organised gangs of older men – and the disgraceful failure of the authorities to act despite ample evidence – is a stain on our country.'

A Buddhist, Ms Braverman describes the 'perpetrators' as 'groups of men, almost all British-Pakistani, who hold cultural attitudes completely incompatible with British values'.

I am not sure if this is just the DM take on what she said, or if it accurately reflects what she said.

If she did say this and not talk about how men of all cultures, given the opportunity, have and will exploit young women, then she is letting down all the women who are exploited.

I think it's great if SB is going to take this on. It's great she's made the statement that the behaviour of these gangs is incompatible with British values. I'd love for Britain to be a place where rape and vawg was not tolerated. Very supportive of SB taking action towards this.

Yes. I am too.

You're the one making it all about politics love.

It is about politics. The political party in charge of the UK for the past 13 years have destroyed British women's rights in nearly every way possible.

You believe what the the proven corrupted liars in the Tory party say about protecting women's rights? You need your head read. Or a crash course in facts, evidence and critical thinking.

I very much doubt you consider me your "love"

Every time there's a discussion about a policy, the same few names try and make it about party affiliation.

It's transparent.

Given the OP is about politics, is it really a surprise that people might comment on politics?
I know you don't want to comment on the OP, which is of course your choice.

TooBigForMyBoots · 04/04/2023 00:49

Is the fact that Suella Braverman is the Home Secretary of the Conservative government of the UK, irrelevant then?

What would you like to say about Braverman's policy of right wing dogwhistles that she has deployed before the selection meeting in the constituency she hopes to represent at the next election?

Its far more important that she is a buddhist. All buddhists know what a woman is.

Well it's given you a platform to repeat ad nauseam how much you hate the Tories, and try and gatekeep this section of MN because of your personal beliefs. So that's nice for you isn't it.

Ah the left wing you need your head read approach. Bless.

TooBigForMyBoots · 04/04/2023 01:01

Yeah, I hate the Tories. I'm a feminist and a British woman.

That's why I hate the Tories.🤷‍♀️

Jonei · 04/04/2023 01:06

That's nice for you. I expect you feel lots better for sharing that about yourself.

TooBigForMyBoots · 04/04/2023 01:20

What's with the passive aggressive stuff @Jonei? My motives for posting were questioned. I responded honestly. For clarity.

Jonei · 04/04/2023 01:28

Oh is responding to your rage and insults now considered to be passive aggressive in your world?

Got it.

TooBigForMyBoots · 04/04/2023 01:49

Every woman in this country should be raging against the Tories.

Anger is an energy.

What policy is this? A party policy? Can you link to where she sets out this policy? Or any evidence that this is her personal policy?

As far as I can tell, she's saying she's going to do something to defend women and girls. That's important. Not sure why it's being discounted by some on this thread.

Vote how you wish @Jonei but if you vote Conservative, don't pretend you're doing it for women.

Not in my name.Angry

This again. How does someone cast a vote in your name? It's preposterous

Gawd. Catching up with this thread was a waste of time.

I feel as though labour activists are going into overdrive on mumsnet at the moment. It’s annoying.

Yup. But as I said, always instructive to see which threads jgw pops up on. Suppose the same goes for toobig as well.

No you have not but plenty Tory activists on this thread have, usually in the guise "i am a floating voter and don't like the Tories but....... Labour/Corbyn!!!"

Whilst ignoring their record on immigration and failed promises over the last few years.

Bravermann's "cracking down on grooming gangs" making it only about Pakistani gangs, will lead to the majority white gangs carrying on as before, not that SB has any intention of following through with this, people are missing that she announced a "consultation" only 🙄

To be fair every woman in the uk should be raging against ALL the political parties. Each and every one has thrown women under the bus. Not one party has protected womens rights. It’s not a left v right issue.

TooBigForMyBoots · 03/04/2023 21:57

If anyone believes the police didn't pursue the Rochdale and Rotherham gangs because they were afraid of being "seen as racist", send me a PM because I have a great offer on Magic Beans.

The police have never been afraid of being seen as racist. The Asian gangs got away with it because they paid the police off and WC women and girls don't matter.

It's happened for centuries.AngryAngryAngry

Then why didn't the mainstream media and mainstream politicians talk about it for a long time?

I guess they were "paid off" also.

I have a bridge to sell you if you're interested...

Indeed. Let’s not pretend this is a good political party/bad political party thing.

they’re all dismal.

Considering who has been in power for the last 13 years, its a bit rich to blame Labour Libdems Greens etc.

The Tories have also been in power for the majority of the post war years too.

I'm trying to think of significant things they have done to improve anyone's rights, let alone women's rights.
