Gender as an ideological construct should not be confused or conflated with the material reality of biological sex. Gender is the vehicle through which misogyny is enacted and normalised.

I think I know who's getting my vote this year!

Ooh, that's a great breakdown @NotHavingIt . Completely skewers the hypocrisy of the Progressive Left's cognitive dissonance on the issue

As does this review, in the Morning Star, of a book about 'Luxury Communism" by Aaron Bastani.

Isn’t that awful woman Ash Sarkar a communist? How does she square that with her TWAW stance?

Oh, but that’s completely different. She’s a libertarian communist.

I’m expecting this weeks Spiked podcast to be hilariously withering.

When I was a student (early 1980s) a fellow student was an active member of the Communist Party of Britain (Marxist-Leninist). He was keen to make sure people knew this was very different from the Communist Party of Great Britain. People's Front of Judaea indeed!

Wikipedia tells me this about the CPB(M-L), which I am amazed to see is still in existence.

The party was formed in 1968 by Reg Birch as a Maoist, anti-revisionist breakaway from the Communist Party of Great Britain, siding with the Communist Party of China in the Sino-Soviet split.[1] From 1979 onwards the CPB-ML sided with Enver Hoxha in the Sino-Albanian split.[2] A small number of members split from the party in 1975, forming the Nottingham Communist Group. In 1976, three branches of the CPB-ML split and formed the Communist Workers Movement, initially under the leadership of Ian Williams.[3] This group later joined the Revolutionary Communist League of Britain. In the 1980s, the CPB-ML came to support the Soviet Union again for a period, before dropping this line over Mikhail Gorbachev's reforms. More recently, the CPB-ML has developed a national line for Britain: "Rebuild Britain"; the party is strongly opposed to the European Union.[4] The party published The Worker from 1969 until 2000, when it became Workers.

That last sentence cracks me up. 31 years to persuade a second worker to support them! Grin

It all reminds me of the endless schisms in the Free Church of Scotland.

Billy Bragg doesn't seem to be having much fun on twitter. He's been told that the"little transactivist island he is on is being consumed by the rising tides"

Apropos of nothing in particular. I think berets can look quite natty. Can you get them in suffragette colours?

I quite fancy a furry hat with ear flaps but I suppose I’d be best just waiting for the Autumn/Winter 2023 collection to be released?

One for me, one for Ash.

These are quite useful in Arctic winter temperatures. When I wore one, I looked like my spaniel with long ears. We were a matched set, running through the snow drifts.

But the hats were popularised by Soviet leaders, of course, though they really are apolitical.

Rom is awfully like a customer services Chatbot. What does he think Communism even is, if he thinks you can take the ‘class reductionism’ out of it? 😅

Succinct summary. Well done The Communist Party for laying it out so clearly. Shame supposedly mainstream parties are in such a fankle over this.

It’s mostly in the Acts of the Apostles, which describes what the Apostles did after Jesus resurrection and ascension. They all lived together, pooled their resources into common ownership and the distributed on the basis of need.

Its consistent with other parts of the bible, eg the love of money is the root of all evil; no man can serve two masters (ie God and money); blessed are the poor; easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than a rich man get into heaven.

I am no student of political theory but I think if the left-right balance of politics could be dragged a bit closer towards the modern form of European democratic socialism by voting for the communists, than I’m all for it.

Interesting! Thanks for informing me on that.

The Socialist Party has weighed in…

And the Anarchist Federation. Although rumour has it that there are only half a dozen members in this organisation so probably doesn't mean very much.

Has anybody asked the anarcho syndicalists?

ArabellaScott · 01/04/2023 10:19

I do remember there was dissent among some of the grassroots anarchist groups, some of whom were supportive of women and some supportive of genderists. I'm sure I saw a couple of statements to support the former views.

If communism was done in smaller countries (Central America if the US hadn't murdered everyone) it might have worked on a small scale. Never would work in large countries

MrsTerryPratchett Cuba?
Anyone who criticises the government are locked up and the recent protests were squashed quickly.
Are there any countries which have actually voted for communism in a democratic vote?

Chile 1973. Causing Kissinger to say : we cannot allow a country to go Communist due to the irresponsibility of its own people.

Tens of thousands died in the CIA coup and subsequent purges. Including the democratically elected President.

Nicaragua 1980s.

Spain 1936 iirc . A Socialist and Communist coalition elected.

Kerala state in India. Communists frequently elected. One of the few states with good health , education , welfare etc.

Sure , it's no magic bullet. But what we have now is the limited democracy the Corporations are willing to allow us.

' I don't think government is really the way forward ' Mark Zuckerberg.

Quite.

I know quite a few anarchist types. After the Anarchist Bookfair 2017 when Helen Steel was attacked by activists it created a split in the scene that has never resolved. Now it's pretty much like every other political sphere with accusations of transphobia and bigotry against anyone (or any organisation) who won't openly state that TWAW with zero reservations.

BlackForestCake · 01/04/2023 10:42

I don't think it's unfair to say that most people on the anarchist left have little interest in theory.

What puzzles me are the Marxist groups with theoretical journals coming out with this stuff.

I read the Socialist Party article and there's no attempt to explain why TWAW, just the usual Stonewall claims. No analysis there.
