Standing for Women - NZ tour discussion. (To prevent further derailing of the thread for centring the women)

Let’s move the general discussion about the New Zealand ‘Let Women Speak’ tour out of the thread set up to centre the women speaking at the Australian and New Zealand tours.

This was the live feed.

https://www.youtube.com/live/eDuy2Kx2HlI?feature=share

The event was over run by violent trans activists. Not only did they use the usual intimidation tactics, but also threw substances at Kellie Jay, the women and the security.

'Crimson Starlight' is a fake Twitter account using pictures of a Canadian transwoman and family to stir hatred and violence.

Any trans activists reading this, perhaps you'd like to let the transwoman know. It's shit that someone is using the images like this, but I know that a 'terf' trying to let this person know would not go down well.

Disinformation helps nobody and it's abhorrent to use a child in this way.

dear god twitter is a mess. i genuinely believe the world would be a better place without it

thank you for flagging this

Hi can I ask a question?

I see the Guardian referring to the AUS leg of this tour as an "Anti Trans" rally:

https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2023/mar/23/senator-lidia-thorpe-knocked-to-ground-in-struggle-with-police-anti-trans-rally-kellie-jay-keen-posie-parker-canberra-australia?CMP=ShareiOSAppp_Other

Can I ask, what was Pauline Hanson doing there?

I understand that anyone can turn up, hence a group of unsavoury right wingers/ neo nazis, people who genuinely hate trans people, were there in the crowds. Wouldn't PH have to have been invited though?

I have seen discussions before here, what to do when the cause you support, is also supported by political sections you are completely opposed to? I support protest to keep certain spaces for natal females but I would steer clear of a rally if I knew someone like PH would be there.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 25/03/2023 11:18

The story is on the UK DM website. They are also carrying this next to it now:

That's a really good piece, and the comments, including several from Aus/NZ are overwhelmingly supportive of Kellie and women.

twitterexile · 25/03/2023 11:19

It is - very interesting difference between the two.

The standing for women events are not a ‘rally’. They are not a protest either. They are for women to gather together and speak. Anyone can turn up.

Would you steer clear of any groups who are intent on harming women and girls too?

  1. Pauline Hanson represents Queensland in the Australian Senate. She is a person of power and influence. People who want to achieve things will want to talk to her

  2. Let Women Speak are open mic events. anyone can come, even people you don't like

I hope that clears matters up for you

ArabellaScott · 25/03/2023 11:25

No idea who Pauline Hanson is. The format of 'Let Women Speak' is to allow all women to speak.

@chevvyroo I can’t stand that woman either but I don’t think it’s fair to expect Posie or anyone else to tell any woman, even her, they can’t turn up to listen. You also can’t expect foreigners to understand everything about the politics and politicians in your country. Trying to tell my Dad what a lowlife Boris is was hard, his image of him was only about covid where to him, Boris looked strong because he battled it etc etc he doesn’t understand all the things we do about our politicians.

Can I ask you if you disagree with Pauline Hanson on what she said there?

Please be specific in what you disagree with.

If Pauline Hansen was an ALP senator, would you be asking why she was allowed to speak and why she was there?

Just catching up on all this from the US. 💐to NZ sisters. What a fucking shambles.

StephanieSuperpowers · 25/03/2023 11:29

Also, why have an even called "let women speak - but not that one"? Surely the problem that KJK is highlighting is that women are being cut out for wrongthink?

NZKateS · 25/03/2023 11:30

The reporting is utterly scummy - complete minimisation, all comments off and (and this is a personal observation only) a slight walking back of tone. During the week they appeared to be doing absolutely everything in their power to encourage and condone a violent confrontation but they are taking a slightly more measured approach tonight.

They are still not reporting accurately on the violence it’s ‘alleged ’ etc and sympathetic interviews with those who attacked Posie - trying to minimise the revolting scenes seen today.

it’s just been the most horrific terrible day. And they are so proud of themselves.

Whaeanui · 25/03/2023 11:31

I was so upset last night and first thing this morning, especially dealing with a racist here to boot. But women, I have had messages from home from people, lots of men, who I’ve never discussed this with who are asking me if I know of this woman, what the hell is wrong with the media, they’ve seen footage on twitter and are disgusted… they’ve started to see the light with nz media before this- sports media are pretty awful too- so I actually feel more hopeful even though I’m so very sad and worried for the women at the event who were scared.

Whaeanui · 25/03/2023 11:32

yup I just had a WhatsApp message from a rugby nut friend who sent a video and said: so they’re not going to let women speak here then? Wtf is this?

keep posting if you have social media. It’s working. We don’t need MSM.

FOJN · 25/03/2023 11:33

Boiledbeetle · 25/03/2023 09:42

if she's had to come home them how long before our usual "she's conning you it's a money grab" posters turn up to claim she never booked any hotels after this stop, she personally invited the bullies to turn up so she cut her tour short and fleece all us women?

And if they are reading and considering it, a piece of advice...don't fucking bother.

They are better fund raisers for KJK than she could ever be alone. There were lots of donations being made when the live stream was up last night and the world watched what NZ TRA's do to women who want to speak.

I hope KJK is flying first class and drinking champagne.

”but I would steer clear of a rally if I knew someone like PH would be there.”

See. I am a QLD’er and I disagree on many issues with Pauline Hanson and always have.

If it was a women’s rights rally promising a range of women speaking, I would not boycott it because of one speaker.

What I have found is that every time we have a very dark day in this fight, it is followed by a stronger dawning of sunlight. Take heart. We are all with you. xxx

Thank you to this board and all of you for being so kind over the racist poster and for knowing that it was goady and unpleasant despite not knowing my language, that also goes to MNHQ who removed the post about my family. So bizarre! Nobody is fluent in Maori because nobody today has been allowed to have it as a first language, so to disparage my family for not teaching me! You know how we didn’t lose our language? Our women taught it at home in secret ✊🏿

Thanks to you and @ArabellaScott for explaining without putting me down! Smile

I have had my eyes opened and I'm genuinely shocked by the way some newspapers I used to trust, present totally biased views on this topic or just ignore stories completely (Guardian)!

I still detest the tone and worldview of a LOT of DM stuff but have accepted that they publish the truth on some matters and because of this I have lost some friends, they honestly think I have turned into some kind of fascist. It's depressing and scary.

I don't know what the answer is? If these LWS are free open mike events, then won't they will always descend into ugly scraps like this with totally biased reporting and then once people like PH and her supporters are present, it becomes easy to lump gender critical women in with them.

This is a good point.

I disagree with probably most of what she says. But I support free speech and certainly would not scream at her or throw liquid on her. She is entitled to her views.

Somehow though, I think would foresee this event turning into a fracas and would have stayed away. I realise this makes me a bit of a coward. coward. I also keep quiet on some of my views at work. I need a job.

nilsmousehammer · 25/03/2023 11:47

The thing is, if women sit at home nicely waiting for a nice enough rally where the right people speak on all the right things in the right tone?

Your rights will be decades gone by the time it happens.

This isn't a drill.

sanluca · 25/03/2023 11:48

*Ah yes, more important to be left wing than actually want to protect women's and children's rights.

I recall having a heated debate on social media with a very well known, intelligent feminist who I greatly admire and who is impressively articulate - she told me that I could not be a feminist because I am not left wing.*

The left seem to become more and more intolerant of anything that is also not left. Since when is feminism only for left minded people? What ever happened to feminism is for all women, regardless of race, age, politics or religion? So women who are not left or left enough don't deserve sex based rights? No wonder most women don't call themselves feminists...

nilsmousehammer · 25/03/2023 11:48

And your 'niceness' I'm afraid will be taken full advantage of by those who are wholly unconcerned with and uninhibited by any social values at all. They will not see you as the bigger person, they will see you as a mug.

This is largely how women got this far into this mess: we are socialised too bloody well and it's been weaponised against us.
