Standing for Women - NZ tour discussion. (To prevent further derailing of the thread for centring the women)

Let’s move the general discussion about the New Zealand ‘Let Women Speak’ tour out of the thread set up to centre the women speaking at the Australian and New Zealand tours.

This was the live feed.

https://www.youtube.com/live/eDuy2Kx2HlI?feature=share

The event was over run by violent trans activists. Not only did they use the usual intimidation tactics, but also threw substances at Kellie Jay, the women and the security.

Funnily enough we have similar discussions in Scotland about the muirburn.

Of course the history and context is very different!

Some good interviewing there - sticking to specifics and firsthand knowledge. Enjoyed the interviewer calling out the fact that the minister was reading out talking points rather than giving useful info 😂

Oh! Today FM has been taken off air.

Thanks for the further info on burning, @Helleofabore that stirred up more detailed memories of the article.

And the muirburb, @ArabellaScott - I knew about it, but didn't know the name. I'm not sure if they still do it in England, but it was the practice in Northumberland, Cumberland and York Moors. It's very bad for invertebrates and small animals.

Grammarnut · 31/03/2023 09:54

The station has now been shut down. The interview is no longer available. Is it archived somewhere?

Helleofabore · 31/03/2023 10:10

I have not seen it archived.

Does the timing of the closure of the station seem suspicious? Or is the thought that the board planned this considering it reckons it would start again on the 1st April with a new station. Because it would seem they have been planning the closure for a while.

'Muirburn is a complex issue, with research suggesting that muirburn has both beneficial and adverse effects. If it is undertaken without due consideration of all the possible consequences, it undoubtedly has the potential to have a serious negative impact on wildlife and the wider environment. However, it can also have a positive impact, creating beneficial habitats for certain species or helping reduce fuel loads and lower the risk of wildfires.'

An update.

Woman accused of throwing juice over anti-trans activist Posie Parker pleads not guilty
5 Apr, 2023

“Eliana Golberstein, also known as Eli Rubashkyn, 34, did not seek bail or name suppression through her lawyer.”
“A court registrar confirmed she entered her pleas by notice yesterday and her attendance was excused”
“Her next court appearance is in July.”

Of course, I have directly copied and pasted this without change.

Thanks, I won’t click on Stuff! They’ve already admitted it and said they’d do it again

VitaminX · 06/04/2023 21:25

"Parker, who calls herself a women’s rights supporter, was appearing to speak at Auckland’s Albert Park last month when she was doused in a bottle of tomato juice and had to be rushed away by security.
Her planned speech was cancelled amid scuffles and the rest of her New Zealand tour was aborted."

My bolding. Did I just read that above an advert claiming this outlet offers "New Zealand's best journalism"? Scuffles?! I can't believe anyone could think that was an appropriate word to describe what I saw. NZ journalism is in a sorry bloody state if that's the best.

Whaeanui · 06/04/2023 21:28

Oh Stuff and most nz media are just embarrassing. Journalism isn’t something they’re good at.

VitaminX · 06/04/2023 21:31

And "accused of throwing juice"? He is on film doing it and has been publicly boasting about it ever since. It's not in doubt that he threw juice or soup or whatever it was. I suppose his defence is that his action was not assault, but throwing liquid on someone is assault in many countries. Can anyone clarify whether it comes under the legal definition of assault in NZ?

Whaeanui · 06/04/2023 21:45

I bet they get away with it

Boiledbeetle · 06/04/2023 22:14

I'm assuming what he did to KJK is classed as assault in NZ, as it's now going through the courts. He must have been charged in order to plead not guilty.

He's on film committing the crime and then gleefully admitting it and explaining the fact that it was completely premeditated.

How can they not find him guilty?

Whaeanui · 06/04/2023 22:17

Easily. All black Sevu Reece was on cctv chasing his gf down the street and beating her. A doorman from a bar pulled him off. He pled guilty. No conviction even. First hit is free, literally. Same for all black Shannon Frizell, he punched a woman and a man, threatened them days later, no conviction. Missed a game though and the country was sad 😞

Whaeanui · 06/04/2023 22:18

Ani O’Brien is on twitter, she often shares the sentencing of violent offenders. It’s depressing. They get off so lightly there

Boiledbeetle · 06/04/2023 22:23

@Whaeanui it's grim isn't it!

And they wonder why women are angry!

UtopiaPlanitia · 12/04/2023 13:47

That was a fascinating article @Whaeanui, thanks for posting it. This paragraph particularly struck me as so relevant, it brilliantly describes how Gender Ideology has progressed in so many countries:

'Gender ideology globally has attached itself especially to indigenous cultures in every country, to give the illusion of antiquity and authenticity. Wi-Hongi is picking and choosing parts of our culture, cobbling them together into a sort of raggedy patchwork cultural cloak to wear as justification for his beliefs; a cloak that bears no resemblance to the beautiful original stories of Māori.'

Whaeanui · 12/04/2023 13:50

Thank you @UtopiaPlanitia that’s a great passage to highlight. It’s so so true. Same thing happened with Samoan culture of Fa’afafine being appropriated.

UtopiaPlanitia · 12/04/2023 14:30

I’ve noticed that cultures with another societal option for men, like hijra in India/Pakistan, and Fa’afafine in Samoa, or two-spirit in Native North American cultures are all being co-opted by Gender Ideology in a very pick 'n' mix way with no attempt at appreciation for the original cultures and the meanings those second male categories have within those cultures.

Here in Ireland, we have Gender Ideology (among other new ideologies) slotting into society and occupying the hugely powerful space that Catholicism once had. A lot of Irish people seem desperate to prove that they are not backward or associated with the Church any longer.

This is a societal reaction to the sex-abuse scandals and the disgusting treatment of Irish women by both Church & State, and it’s also a desire to catch up other European countries who are perceived as more 'modern'. Plus, there’s a large component of wanting to be seen internationally as more virtuous than our former colonial overlords (Britain). And, the cherry on top is that Irish society is still sexist and so it’s easy to ignore women’s rights when it’s been happening for so long anyway and the bonus is that it’s considered progressive these days to ignore those moaning old-fashioned women anyway.

Whaeanui · 12/04/2023 14:36

@UtopiaPlanitia yes I so agree with everything you just wrote! It’s all very very deliberate. First they attach themselves to the LGB & then indigenous cultures. All very intentional. I found it interesting that Stuff, who are awful and never edit or pull anything, pulled this story within a day. Someone important must of had something to do with it. I also understand the catholic issue in Ireland and yes of course the misogynistic aspect there- I’m Maori & Irish! I’ve only been to Ireland a few times but one side of my family are Irish and extremely catholic!

IcakethereforeIam · 12/04/2023 17:30

That it has to graft itself on ancient roots shows how new, and parasitical, it is.

FOJN · 13/04/2023 18:26

Look like KJK really lit a fire in NZ. I hope this only attracts men who want to do what the poster says rather than men looking for a fight.
